It took 13 months and it was during that time he wasat Hartsfield Village He and I were pleased with the comfort care he was getting. This was 5 years ago, and I don't know if there have been negative changes since.

I had a major spine surgery and was not able to get out of bed for at least two days. When I needed to use the bathroom, I turned on the nurse's alarm and no one came and 30 minutes passed. And I ended up urinating in the bed at three different occasions due to no one coming to help me. I just feel as an adult, and you're urinating in your bed that it is just a disgusting feeling. That should have never happened!!!! I gave them plenty of time to come and help me. At one time it was a forty five minute wait, and still no one came. I ended up urinating in my underwear and in my clothes, and so I had to put those in a bag for someone to help me with my laundry. Well that's another story, after a week of being there, I had a full bag of laundry. Every time I asked one of the aides, is anyone going pick up my laundry and they said, let me check and they never came back. So I had to leave my laundry sit in my room. Finally, I ended up giving it to an aid tossing it out into the hallway to her and asking her to take that to laundry. I had my name and my room number written huge, in black marker on both sides of the white bag.Well, needless to say, my laundry got lost!!! At that point I only had one pair of underwear left because I had limited amounts of clothes there. I had nothing to put on because everything was dirty. I tried my best to find out where my clothes were. And why they weren't coming back and went through many channels of talking to people. And nobody was able to help me or find my laundry when I finally went home after 2 days of being home. I called and talked to the administrator and inquired about my lost laundry bag. She said she would look into it. I did not hear from them. After another day, I called back .And they said, oh, we found your laundry. Well, I was surprised, and I asked them to please send it back to me and they insisted I should come and pick it up.Well, this is an hour away from my home. And I still wasn't driving due to my surgery and I told them I cannot. After practically begging them, two days later they sent someone to drop it off to my doorway. The worst part of the stay that there was... I was an extreme pain. I knew the pain medicine had to be given to me by a nurse, not by an aide. I knew I had a wait till specific time to get my medicine. So when that time came, I pulled the buzzer and the aid came about a half hour later, and I asked her for my medicine, and she said she'll get the nurse well about a half hour after that, the nurse brought me my medicine. So by then, it was an hour later. There were times that so much time passed that I was in tears. So I wobbled down to the end of the hall at nurses station three times during my stay and ask them for my medicine.Because no one came to answer my calls. When I got to the nurse station, they all looked at me like I was nuts. Why am I in the hall. I explained that i've been trying to get someone for over an hour. But when I got to the nurse station, I realized they were all just standing there talking. One person was on the computer. There's something very wrong with that picture!! I do not recommend this place at all! There are so many other things that had happened. I could not wait to get out of there! For any older people that are not understanding the way they are being taken care of and not able to speak up. But to just lay there and hope that they get help, that's bad. I would hope that a family member would be able to step in. Please do not go here.

Most people don't have insurance to cover assisted living costs, and it is not covered by Medicare. You're on your own to pay for it. I'm talking around 4K per month (in Chicago, and up to 5-6K in parts of LA) for a room, including meals and some nursing supervision. If a resident needs medication monitoring, it could be an additional thousand a month, depending on the facility. That being said, my family member vetoed the entire idea, haha. She wants to come live with me! More on that in a sec. Regarding Sunrise: I visited a few of their locations, and spoke to reps from Pacific Palisades, Hermosa, and the one in Flossmoor, a far south Chicago suburb. My elderly relative lives near the Flossmoor location. My Flossmoor contact, Debbie, geriatric care manager of this location, is extraordinary. She seems to have unlimited patience, and her knowledge & expertise are simply awesome. I cannot tell you how much she helped us, over the course of countless phone conversations. I also called the Sunrise corporate HQ at one point early on, and spoke to a customer service rep for more than an hour. I needed guidance, among other things, and I got all that and more. The manager of the Palisades location was another amazing person. He's efficient, follows up, highly skilled in his profession. It would appear that Sunrise staff are quite impressive, generally. I never once experienced rudeness or anything close to incompetence. I realize this is a business, a big one, and their job is to offer great customer care. But they went above and beyond, in our case, for which I am forever grateful. The facilities themselves are beautiful. They look like an upscale bed & breakfast, just lovely. We haven't ruled out Sunrise assisted in the long term. But for now it looks like I'll be welcoming a roommate in the near future. Do I plan to make a Yelper out of her? Just wait and see..........

She was always there for support and to answer questions. Another lady, Lisa, worked directly with my husband. Once again, I was impressed with her enormous compassion and caring. We recently visited and found roaches and their debris all over the kitchen. We cleaned as much as we could, and advised management of the situation. What was once a 5-star, beautiful facility with accommodations for independent living, assisted…read moreliving, and memory care has deteriorated into a 1-star, unsafe, unsanitary, and poorly managed, pest-infested community where seniors are treated with disregard and disrespect by management. * Management - The Executive Director is unfit and unqualified to work in a senior living environment. She consistently communicates with residents in a rude, dismissive, and condescending manner, seldom engages with residents, avoids addressing legitimate concerns, and demonstrates a clear lack of compassion or professionalism. Her leadership has contributed significantly to the overall decline in morale and quality of life for residents. * Theft from resident apartments - Multiple residents have reported missing items from their apartments. Concerns brought to management have been ignored or dismissed, leaving residents feeling unsafe and unprotected in their own homes. * Bed bugs, roaches, and ants - This became a recurring problem throughout the building after management allowed the garbage chute to remain backed up from the fourth floor to the ground floor for two weeks. Despite multiple complaints, management failed to act, claiming a part needed corporate approval. Corporate approval delays prevented timely repair. It was repaired only to break again a few weeks later. Infestations have continued despite repeated extermination treatments in my apartment and in apartments on every floor. This has created unsanitary and unsafe living conditions for residents. Many residents have had to discard mattresses, sofas, and other furniture due to this problem. Others have been forced to temporarily move out until it was safe to return. Several residents have suffered bed bug bites as a result of these ongoing infestations. This neglect from management has made it extremely difficult for residents to feel comfortable and secure in the building and in their apartments. * Outdoor walking path - The path used daily by residents for exercise remains obstructed and unsafe. Despite numerous requests, management has failed to remove debris or address low-hanging branches that make the walkway difficult to navigate. Pool - The pool heater has been broken since July, preventing residents from enjoying activities such as water aerobics. Despite repeated complaints, management refuses to spend the money to repair the heater, denying residents this important opportunity for physical exercise. * Activities - Activities that were part of the enticement of moving to this community have now been assigned to residents to handle themselves, rather than being organized and managed by staff as in the past. Residents are also responsible for setting up and taking down chairs, tables, and other equipment after each activity. * Washer and dryers - With two laundry rooms on each floor and several machines available, residents should not have concerns about doing laundry. However, very few machines work, and there is rarely a washer and dryer functioning at the same time. Seniors are forced to search other floors only to find those machines broken as well. Management has been informed repeatedly but has not responded or made any effort to replace the machines. * Communication from outside the facility - Family members of residents are restricted from communicating with the Executive Director or other staff to obtain answers regarding the care of their loved ones. The main phone line at the front desk often rings with no answer, or when answered, calls are purposely disconnected. * Lease - Residents were given a new lease to sign; however, when requesting a copy, they were told they would receive it soon. The leases sat on the Executive Director's desk awaiting her signature while residents were told she was "too busy" to handle it. It took four months before I finally received a copy of my lease, raising red flags about hidden violations or altered agreements. * Thermostat/Heat - The building cannot regulate heat properly, causing extreme temperature fluctuations throughout the day and night. When residents raise concerns, management's only guidance is to "open a window" if they get too hot, creating uncomfortable living conditions for seniors.

I have notes posted on brother's closet to NOT let him sleep in his clothes (IGNORED) he has plenty of pajamas in his drawer I wrote for them NOT to separate his hung up clothes because he's wet from them not changing him so I put extra pants in his drawer (Note on closet door IGNORED) He's sitting in the tv room wet as a storm & leaking through his adult pampers he stands up from his wheelchair now & that's his way of letting them know that he has to go to the bathroom for a bm & they're constantly telling him to sit down & of course who ends up changing him??? Me It's becoming ridiculous especially when I'm smelling STRONG urine & poop in the dining area which is suppose to stay clean. I don't know where they're getting these new Nurses & aids from but it won't be long before my brother gets transferred if this keeps up. Annnd someone stole his body wash I bought him so I reported it to the director & as I said, we gotta talk cause I'm NOT liking this non don't care attitude on that 3rd floor. I've even spoken to the Director of Nursing about my brother's clothes & such being soak & wet ALL the time & still NOTHING is being done now I've been nice & have not done petty complaints & turned the other cheek but now doing that things are getting too comfortable on that 3rd floor. And trust you me when I'm not there I'm still hearing about the treatment of my brother through other family that visits their relatives, nothing physical but ALWAYS sit down & as I said the ONLY reason he's standing up is to sip from his drink or he has to go to the bathroom. I'm stick a fork in me done especially when it comes to MY Brother who cannot help himself (Parkinson) but he is verbal & if they ASK him instead of telling him to sit down then he wouldn't stay wet all the time. Some of the newer CNA'S need to read their patients charts (if anything is written) & get to know their attitudes & ways of doing things. As I say "A CHANGE IS GONNA COME"
