The restaurant itself is vibrant and exciting with a friendly and lively buzz about the place. For starters we had salt-fish fish cakes and jerk chicken wings. Those fish cakes where the best fish cakes I have ever eaten. Delicately flavoured, cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful. Even though they where made from salt fish they where not overly salty. The flavours where well balanced and complimented each other beautifully. The jerk chicken came in a very moorish and very tasty jerk gravy. Now I know traditionally jerk chicken is not supposed to come in a gravy or a sauce, but this was exceptional. Every now and then a restaurant has to push the boundaries of what is the norm in its cuisine and I like that. This was definitely one of those occasions and it paid off big time. It did as expected have a kick to it but with the accompanying yoghurt and mint dip to cool things down that did take the edge off. For mains I had the curried goat and white rice. We also had the slow cooked jerk pork belly with rice and peas. To accompany the mains we had two portions of the sweet fried dumplings. The goat curry tasted wonderful. Again very well flavoured and not too overpowering. Sometimes you can get a curried goat that knocks your head off and you find yourself guzzling down glasses of mile and fresh orange juice for the next fortnight, but this was spot on. Not a single scrap was left. The pork belly was beautifully cooked and fell away at the touch of a knife. All in all this was a fantastic lunch. Not too pricey either and it is well worth making a special journey for. I'll definitely be returning and I'd gladly recommend this place to anyone who wants fantastic Caribbean home cooking.

The Mackerel was surprisingly delicious. I think I was expecting a peppered fillet or something (I missed the "Potted" part in the dish's name), but pleased to get a little glass pot with minced(?) mackerel and cracked pepper to spread on some dark bread. Yummy! The pork belly and chips were tasty but nothing to write home about. I didn't dislike them but the pork wasn't as flavorful as I had expected because the seasoning hadn't penetrated the meat. Again, it wasn't bad and that might have been what they were going for. When we return, I'll try the steak (I'm not big on seafood but my wife is). The chips had just the right consistency. Lastly, I had Creme Brûlée somewhere else and didn't like it because the top was burnt and I was afraid that that's how it would always taste. I ordered it at Loch Fyne just to see how well they'd do it. It was yummy. The top wasn't burnt and the custard was subtle yet delightfully smooth. I considered ordering one for take away but I was heading to a meeting at a patisserie. The Prats were OK, but we learned that we are not fans of prat. We can't blame Loch Fyne; I'm sure they tasted the way they were supposed to taste. I didn't taste the Mussels, but I was told that they were fresh and perfectly cooked. For just over 13 pounds, we got two entrées - chicken tikka masala and a "fairly hot" lamb curry. We also got one big piece of garlic naan and a side of rice to share. The food came out quickly and was made fresh on the spot. Let's start with the tikka masala - creamy and rich, the chicken was tender and tasty. I'm not a big tikka fan but this was really good. I had the lamb curry and let me say a few things. First, I have a fairly high heat tolerance and this dish was HOT. That being said, even though it was slightly hotter than I'm used to eating, it was manageable and above all, beyond enjoyable. It was at the perfect level of spiciness - any hotter would have made it very painful to eat and any cooler it wouldn't have been as good. On to the lamb. Lamb is delicious when it's cooked correctly. Far too often though, lamb gets overcooked and comes out tough and gamey. This was not the case here - the lamb was cooked PERFECTLY! It was tender - you could cut through it with a fork. Partnered with the sauce it was like eating in heaven. The naan was my least favorite part of the meal, but it was still enjoyable. Just not the best naan I've ever eaten. That being said, I'd still order it again. Same with the rice. We enjoyed the food so much we almost ordered it again the next night, but resisted the urge so we could try something new. After all, we were on holiday!
