During the visit, the outlet box/cover was damaged, and I was told it would require an additional charge and return trip to replace it, costing hundreds of dollars. Within the first moments of troubleshooting, wiring was cut in two locations, the issue remained unresolved, and the wires were left exposed, which I had to repair myself. Ultimately, the GFCI issue was traced to two GFCIs on the same circuit (from a prior homeowner), but this was only determined after the visit. The total bill exceeded $400 for less than an hour of work and a single GFCI/outlet that likely cost less than $25. Based on the overall experience--damage during service, unresolved issues, and pricing--I would not recommend. I feel bad that I can't remember the electricians name that helped us with our electrical issue we were having with our subpanel. He was very kind, informative, knowledgeable, and quick. Major electrical issue with our circuit breaker and LCE,our usual company, just had a voicemail saying they weren't available for another month and call back then. What?! Tried Carlsbad electrical and they could come out the next day. It was a decent size job and they were able to come to do it a day earlier which we were very grateful for. Ron was our electrician and he was very knowledgeable and efficient and had a lot of helpful hints. He took the extra time to go through all of the breakers with me and made sure everything was working perfectly before he left. So, I had a problem with some outlets in my bathrooms and outside, I was given an estimate of 350 dollars. I said, "OK," sounds good. Scheduling was an issue. They weren't respectful of my time. I was told 2 pm on Friday that they had to reschedule to 9 am on Saturday, then the guy showed up at 8:30, while I was still in bed. It took him about 45 minutes running around and looking at things to figure out the reason why we had never had power in my daughter's bathroom was a loose wire shoved in the back. To be fair, I NEVER would have found this. Then I walked out to the guy's car where he was sitting for about 15 minutes on the phone and told him the power was still out in my bathroom and outside, so the problem wasn't fixed. He said, "Well, that's a separate issue, I'll have to charge you for a second troubleshooting." I thought this was reasonable, given the obscure nature of the original problem, but the slap in the face was when he handed me a bill for 445 for the original troubleshooting. I don't like being charged more for subjective pricing, and that's what happened here. One issue, 350, might have been OK, but just overcharging to overcharge is the height of offensive to me after they wasted my time on Friday. The guy actually seemed surprised when I told him I would go with a different company to fix the other problem, which he was originally hired to fix because of the bait and switch. *edit* They contacted me just as I posted this review and said they were going to charge me 250 instead because they didn't like how this went down. My problem still isn't fixed, though, and I wouldn't hire them again. read more

I received a quote from Linden at Carlsbad Electrical for a Qmerit (Chevy) EV Charger promotional installation of a 50 A 240 V circuit for my EV charger. Two stars instead of one because Linden was polite in our email exchanges. The quote was as follows: Provide and install dedicated 50 amp circuit for customer provided car charger . Intstall new breaker, wire and all necessary items for nema 1450 plug - Approx 20-30' conduit. $2576 permit $850 total: $3426 -- That quoted price, $3426, is very high. Note that I described some additional work that would fall outside the scope of the Chevy Qmerit terms. If that additional work was supposed to be covered by the $3426 quote, then it still seems high to me. However, the quote didn't say the additional work was included and Linden was too terse via email to explain reasons for the quote being so high. Too bad, looks like the other reviews for Carlsbad Electrical are generally very positive. -- Update 11/1/23: Linden called me specifically regarding my Yelp review. He was clearly frustrated with my low review. He explained that labor and high quality work in California is expensive. This is no doubt true! He did clarify in the call that the $3426 quote was intended to also cover the additional work I had described (poking thru an exterior wall, replacing an existing 1 gang 120 V outlet with a 2 gang). $3426 for the additional work is perhaps reasonable but we didn't go into details. Linden may be very proud of his business and the quality of work but I wouldn't know because the quoting process turned out to be unpleasant. read more

Linden offered to rebate a portion of the price, which I accepted. Based on the owner's actions to address my concern, I have changed my rating accordingly. June 28, 2023. I lost power in one room in my home. Carlsbad Electrical Services answered my call immediately and was able to come later the same day. Josh very quickly diagnosed the source of the problem to be an outlet that he then replaced. Problem solved. The service itself deserved the highest rating. However, the price I was charged for one hour of work was outrageous. It was at least 2X the going rate for an electrician. So buyer beware. Carlsbad Electrical Services provides top notch service no question. But you are likely to pay a significant premium for that service. read more

Woke up to a portion of our house not having any power. The breakers didn't pop and there wasn't any indication of what the cause may have been. I contacted Carlsbad Electrical Services at 830am and they were at my house at 11am (right at the estimated time). Josh was polite and very professional. He listened to what my problem was and went to work right away troubleshooting the issue. He quickly found the faulty outlet that was causing the the issue and replaced it. Honestly, I don't think we ever would have found the faulty outlet in the guestroom that took out the power to our dining room and garage. While here, I asked if he could take a look at a couple more things for me, which he happily did. In all, found and fixed a faulty outlet, rewired the most annoying set of light switches (wired in a way that didn't make sense), and gave me an estimate for another job. I have hired Carlsbad Electrical Services twice. The first time I chose them because of good Yelp reviews and because they seemed like a good match for my needs. The second time I chose them because I was so pleased with the work they did. I plan to hire them again after we pick out some lighting fixtures for our bedroom. Let's talk about price first. This is not a low-budget electrical service. Their prices are not bargain-basement. I've hired electricians many times in many cities over the last 45 years, and I've done my own electrical work in cities where codes permit that. I'd rate their prices slightly higher than average across all of my experience, but well worth it. I am happy to pay fair prices for top-quality work, and their work is absolutely top quality. One brief anecdote can illustrate why I want a master electrician and not someone who is just starting out. The first time I hired them, one of the things that I needed was to have an electrical outlet installed on the back wall of a bathroom so that I could install a Toto Washlet toilet, which needs to be plugged in. The electrician from Carlsbad Electrical Services discovered that the wall in which I wanted the outlet installed contained various pipes and older wires, and had to work to find a spot where the outlet could be put and wires run successfully to it inside the wall. He spent about half an hour exploring the inside of the wall and eventually found a location to put the new outlet that would comply with the electrical code but not threaten or damage what was already there. A less experienced electrician would have cut a hole for the outlet, discovered that there was stuff in the way, and then kludged something and maybe not even told me about it. Or maybe put the outlet in a strange place that didn't comply with the electrical code and hope I wouldn't mind. Today's electrician didn't just have experience and skill, he had brains. As we discussed what he did today and why he did it, the logic behind his decisionmaking was quite complex and well informed. And he was very good at communicating all of this to me. He even fixed a mistake that some prior electrician had made in one room (a 15-amp receptacle on a 20-amp circuit). I always like to hire local businesses. But I think that if I moved to Poway or Fallbrook and wanted an electrician, I would still call Carlsbad Electrical Services first (not sure they would take a job that far away). read more
