College Lane Elementary School holds lots of memories for me personally…read more My dad picked me up in a two-door Ford in snow when I was in kindergarten. This was when I was in Miss Roberts' afternoon session. My mom brought my twin brothers in a stroller to my field day when I was older - can't remember which grade - but all my friends absolutely adored them. My favorite teacher, Mrs. Gage, was super hard, but I appreciate and miss that. She was my sixth grade teacher. So many things from my past no longer applied to my own children who I brought from California to Hobbs in 2022. No more morning and afternoon sessions for kinder. It's all day now. No more siblings are allowed at events. They no longer call it field day. Teachers no longer require memorization of songs like The Star Spangled Banner or readings or dead famous poets. Sixth grade is also no longer the highest grade level at Hobbs Municipal Schools. Fifth is. Overall, I cannot complain too much about College Lane. Both of my daughters were on the bus when an accident occurred. I was contacted right away and encouraged to go to the school to check on them. They weren't hurt. Just shaken up. The motorcyclist that ran into the back of them died. I drove by today and noticed how they re-paved the parking lots and made a much easier pick-up and drop-off area. AFTER my kids moved on! Ugh. Lol. There are still some wonderful teachers here. I'm still miffed that when I was in 5th grade, there was a mascot change. I voted to keep the "Cobras." The rest of the school apparently wanted to change to the "Cowboys."

I was passing through Carlsbad during the summer and wanted to cool off -- well of course, it was…read more96 degrees. Couldn't find any municipal pools, but someone told me the Carlsbad High School Natatorium was open to the public. I don't know what makes a pool a "natatorium," but it is a good place. 50 meter pool for lap swimming, shallow pool for kids and a diving board. Nice, clean looking, and despite the fancy name, they only charged $2.50. Call for public swim hours.
