The staff who work in there are friendly and helpful, although there is one chap who insists on asking every time whether or not I would like a Post Office credit card. Still, he does it with a cheeky smile on his face and so I can forgive him for trying - just. They don't have anything especially exciting but they function as a perfectly reasonable Post Office, with helpful friendly staff. They are worth the mention purely as an alternative to the larger one in town!

Over lunch time, when everyone is rushing during their lunch break, they had only two people serving when there were about twenty people queueing. Now that post offices deal with so many other enquiries like paying bills, banking & checking forms for passports etc, a transaction at the counter can take so much longer than simply buying stamps. Today was no exception & one of the two servers got embroiled in a tricky issue, leaving just poor cashier #5 to try to get the queue moving. It took about 20 minutes (and once I'd got to the front of the queue, typically!) for them to bring out three extra staff onto the counters to deal with the ever-growing line of impatient people clutching various letters & parcels. However, when I did finally get served, the lady was lovely, apologetic & swift, so that did make up for the wait a little. They do have two self-service machines if you're just looking to post simple packages (UK or international) though one of the machines wasn't working on my visit so there was a queue there too. In general, this post office seems to have a good array of products - all the usual envelopes, packages, etc for purchase, & a photo booth. But perhaps it might be worth going at an off-peak time if you can!

Whilst it has all the usual items that you might go to a Post Office to find, envelopes, jiffy bags, stationary and so on, it also has the worst some of the worst queues. I literally used to shiver with dread anytime I made an ebay sale thinking that I'd have to mooch down there and waste an hour in those awful queues, packed in with all those grumbling bodies. There was the occasional quirk, I found some comedy gold in the form of a silly compilation CD that I put in a parcel for my friend for £3, but other than that there are merely the horrid queues! It is situated opposite Tiger Tiger, it is a part of the St Johns Centre shopping mall and it is literally right next to one of the major bus stops in the city centre, which may go some way to explaining the high volume of customers! Although, on the flip side, it means there is really easy access. Essentially, it does everything a Post Office is supposed to do, it's just not that much of a pleasant experience whilst you are doing it.

The Post Office and KeyStore convenience store and newsagents has recently changed hands, much to applause of the local community. The new owners are family run and are friendly and polite. The store is in the middle of updating. The new owner ran Better Butties on Denison road that had a great reputation for quality take-away hot and cold snacks and sandwiches. Within the Post Office & KeyStore there are two Post Office counters; a fair sized general store, with freezer cabinets and fridges for fresh food. Hot pies and pasties are sold at lunchtime with the introduction of Hot sandwiches and salads in the future.

It's a shack more than a shop and am yet to visit when the queue wasn't snaking out of the door onto the pavement. When you reach the window, you realise why... the service is run by sloth-like folks who must derive pleasure from seeing disgruntled customers. Today's visit was for travel currency. Lured in by the Post Office campaigns, I discovered on leaving that I had been ripped off, effectively paying 5.5% levy on the advertised rates for online/collect in branch. 6% worse than Asda and Sainsbury where I can visit, not queue, and walk out with my Euros. Won't use again - won't survive closure.

There is a convenience shop with the post office that offers an extensive range of foods. You can find all your basics like bread, spuds, eggs and milk as well as fresh foods. There is a wide range of magazines and comics for the children and a couple of freezer cabinets and chilled counters too. Local papers and magazines can be delivered from this Post Office. The staff are friendly.

Crown Post Offices are a dying breed now - it seems almost every Post Office is now becoming a…read moresmall kiosk in a newsagents or similar style store, this is one of the few good remaining Post Offices remaining. This is a large branch, on Spring Gardens which is just off Market Street. It has a ticketed queuing approach, where you get a ticket and wait for them to call your number, I much prefer this to the standard queuing as it means you can sit down, relax without squabbling over your place in the queue. There is also a good number of self-service postage machines (These are great but not ideal as they don't include all services such as if the postage is pre-paid). The staff here are pretty friendly and service is quick enough, this is a huge benefit over the smaller Post Offices around the city centre located in Manchester Souvenirs and News stores, as it can be hit and miss whether you get served quickly or not - the staff always seem to take more care at this location too. It can be cheaper to pre-pay your postage online depending on the service being used. I don't understand the logic behind this, especially if you have to visit a Post Office anyway to post the parcel and/or generate proof of posting. 4* - A very good Post Office location, yet working on transparency between pricing through all payment methods and adding services to the self-service postage machines to make it quicker, and confusion-free would be a huge improvement again.

And…read moreoften I found myself here having to post things off while I was working at Spinningfields, so once I'd jostled through the crowds the last thing I wanted was apocalyptic queues whilst standing like a lemon with my parcel. Thankfully, this is a particularly large post office. It sells what you'd expect - envelopes, stationery, stamps, the works, but with a great many kiosks it means you're never waiting a ludicrously long time to get rid of your items. The staff are helpful too, I was talked through the ins and outs of how many stamps I should put on a card to enable it to reach Fuerteventura, for instance. Its location just next to the Tesco Metro makes it a very handy stopping off point if you happen to be in town. I worked this out when I had to head here today to post off a box and a letter, both recorded delivery. I'm around a mile from a Post Office, no matter what direction I walk in. The shop opposite my apartment building closed down a long time ago, and now I'm at the mercy of Mocha Parade (gimme me flamin' giro), Soviet, sorry, Salford Precinct (Gorky Park) and this. This is my default. I'd like to take a moment to announce that I'm a dumbass as well. Ticket systems? Lost on me. I become like a doddering old grandmother that's been handed an iPod for the first time. Don't worry, this happens at cheese counters and in hospital queues too. Small ballots of paper bewilder me. Anyway, I realised that I shouldn't have sauntered past the friendly-looking bloke stood next to the ominous looking machine. And the lady who handled my parcels was super friendly. Nevertheless, on many an occasion I have had a handful of items, such as ebay parcels, late birthday cards and so on, to post and simply dreaded the idea of the queues that would await me in Headingley or Leeds. They are virtually never busy, and when they are the queue is a ten-minute wait, not a forty-minute wait. They have friendly helpful staff who have not once, ever offered me a Post Office credit card (I hate it when they do that!) and they have a few extra simply stationary supplies should you require. What could be more perfect? Job done.
