At first, the rustic decor, amazing aroma and friendly staff make it feel like a treasure trove to a cheeseoholic such as myself, but unfortunately that initial excitement quickly turns into disappointment. Granted, the staff are very knowledgeable about cheese, but they are less skilled at the practical side of their job, such as cutting a slice anywhere near to the weight specified by their customer or adding up prices correctly. Adding this to the rather high prices to begin with, leaves one's wallet in severe danger of starvation.

When you come out you not only know you have the cheese that you went in wanting, but you also feel slightly more enlightened than before. The main reason for my continious visits are the sandwiches that they sell, put simply they are amazing - so popular that John's now purchase them to sell in their bar at lunch time!! They are sandwhiches made from the highest quality ingredients fresh just a little earlier that day. Both hot and cold sandwhiches are avaliable.

I visited here around noon on a weekday. I sat outside, where it wasn't very busy. It did not take…read morevery long at all for a waiter to greet me and give me a menu. As soon as I looked at the menu, I knew I had made a mistake. This place seems to be solely for the purpose of drinking wine, not, as I expected, a good place to try new wines with different food pairings. Perhaps if there were more people in my party or if I had not been on a budget, this purpose would have been better accommodated. However, I accepted that I had sat down here and decided to give it a chance. The first thing, obviously, was to order a drink.Their selection of rose and cider was abysmal, no more than two options for either. At first, I thought, "Well, it is a WINE bar," but then I continued looking through the menu and their offerings of gin, whiskey, and other spirits was quite impressive. While it was possible to order reds and whites by the glass, there was only one 'by the glass' option for champagne, rose, and sparkling wines, and I was not in the mood to have to mull over the menu again if I did not like their selection. So, I ordered the cider. When the waiter brought it over, I noticed something on the inside of the glass, but when I looked up to tell him about it, he had already gone. I waited for him to come back, which took five minutes and I did not receive an apology, which I was not hung up about but it is still good customer service to do so. Once he returned and I tried the cider, I found it quite sour and not to my taste. The wines had descriptions so I felt one for the ciders and ales would have done very well. As for food, their offerings were mainly cheese and charcuterie dishes. I was looking for something more substantial, but it would have been rude not to order anything so I ordered the bread board, which is merely bread and olive oil. It was perfectly fine. The service was not anything to be impressed by. The waiter was not friendly at all. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very touristy, at least to me. Perhaps this is due to its location on the river, where students and companies are trying to get the tourists to go on a punting tours. Overall, unsatisfactory. Will not be going back.
