I was looking for a specific automobile and just happened upon CarMax. The location that I found the specific vehicle was not in this state. I called and spoke to a very knowledgeable young woman who told me that they could have this vehicle transferred to their location and would call me when it was delivered. Upon delivery of the vehicle , I was called and appointment made for me to test drive it. I test drove the vehicle and was very pleased with it except for a few minor things that needed to be fixed. This was done and an appointment was made for me to purchase and take ownership. They made the process of buying a car so simple and enjoyable that if I ever need another car, I would certainly purchase again. The professionalism and desire to help is very evident from the time you walk in the door until the purchase is complete. I must give credit to Miss Jacqueline Garcia for being a very caring and professional associate. She went the extra mile to make sure this purchase was an enjoyable one. Thanks again, Jacqueline. They spent over half and hour, they took it for a test drive, told me engine and all works fine and offered me $100. Terrible Customer Service I went to CarMax on October 4, 2019 at 3:30 to test drive a Chrysler. I had an appointment for 4:00, but arrived 30 minutes early. The representative behind the desk said hello, scanned the floor and told me that there were no sales reps to help me (I couldn't help but notice at least two employees sitting at desks using their phones.) I was directed to walk down a hall and wait for my name to be called. After 5 minutes, I realized I forgot my checkbook, went back to my car to retrieve and reentered the building. The rep behind the desk now how two other individuals with CarMax shirts standing next him engaged in conversation. He looked at me and nodded. I said hi and asked if one of these fellows could assist me. He pointed to one and said, "he's a manager, not sales." And he said it with what I took to be a disingenuous smile. I snapped and left. And, as I was walking, the other employee said, "I can help!" Look, I get I was early, and I get that not everyone wearing a CarMax logoed shirt is a sales rep, but after being briskly funneled down a hallway as if I was an annoyance (no, "help yourself to coffee!" or "feel free to look around!"), passing what seemed to be numerous idle workers, and then coming back into the building with three folks standing there, one of which who could obviously assist, really left a bad taste in my mouth. I purchased my previous car there, and I was ready to buy again. But now I don't want anything to do with CarMax. Plenty of other places to go. read more

I phoned to get information on a 2015 Mercedes and gave Roger my phone number and email and he was going to get back to me shortly. Shortly was three days and no response! I then called and asked to speak with a manager, who was Patrick, explaining what happened his response was thats not how we operate here, no apology didn't even ask who I spoke with. I asked if he could check if the vehicle had a sports package, he condecendly told me that the description did not indicate there was one but I asked him to check. When he called he said yes there was! He refused to put a hold on the vehicle unless I gave him a credit card and told me me it was not refundable even if it didn't have the options I asked for! Patrick said to bring my car in for an appraisal and a sales person could get more details. After a half hour with salesman Mike he discovered the car was not available, must have been sold. To add insult to injury he gave an appraised value $7,000 less than a recent dealer. Mike then got Brian who was in charge of all sales who went on to say how they don't operate this way, oh really. Continued by saying people make mistakes. It appears that I was the one making the mistake of dealing with Carmax. I will never allow them the opportunity to dismiss me again. read more

They have a tough time communicating between dealers and buyers for vehicle transfers. I had a vehicle get listed not once but twice and both times I could not get anyone to contact me in a timely manner for a transfer so I lost out twice. Their make up offer to me? To pay for a transfer on another vehicle of the same make/model that costs more with more miles and one year older. After haggling with traditional stealerships for a month, I decided to give CarMax a chance only to find out that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. read more

So I'm going to start by saying I know CarMax isn't for everyone, but I believe you shouldn't knock till you've tried it. But my husband and I have purchased both of our cars from them. Both of our experiences were a little different, however, as one car was purchased in the Warwick Rhode Island location and the other in the Attleboro location. Our biggest issue with the Warwick location was honestly because we live in Massachusetts they had a hard time getting plates. Which was frustrating and a little ridiculous but even with the delay we had our Prius in a couple days. Now when we were ready to purchase another car we knew we wanted to work with CarMax but we decided to go with Attleboro because of the plate fiasco in Warwick. Attleboro was much smoother. I did a lot of research (my favorite thing about CarMax is that you can shop through the app for what you want!) and by this past Sunday I had picked my car. From start to finish we worked with sales person Shawn Dulac, I had submitted for a prequalify application on the app at 8 am Sunday and he emailed Sunday just before 12 to give me warning he would be calling and then he called me by 12:30 to discuss my options. The delay in time was just because the store wasn't open till 12. When we worked through the financing part and all the vehicle history he went over with me I decided I definitely wanted the car I submitted for so he set up the transfer (it was in Danvers, not Attleboro). I got emails from CarMax on Sunday to let me know my request had been accepted, then on Monday to let me know it was loaded to go to Attleboro, then on Tuesday to let me know it had shipped. By Tuesday evening Shawn called me and notified me it had arrived and we set up an appointment to test drive for Wednesday. Wednesday I test drove the car and then we signed the papers and it was mine! Such an easy process. Now you could say "well your sales person didn't really sell you on the car". And you would be partially right but Shawn did an amazing job in explaining the vehicle history, breaking down the pros of maxcare, going through all of the financing mumbo jumbo, and he was just really easy to work with. He didn't try to sell me on anything else that would be more expensive just to put more money in his pockets or push me into my decision quickly. And for me, that's so important. Ps. For people who say they're over priced. That bull. I KBB's the vehicle I purchased and CarMax's price was right on it. read more

Attleboro--they said it was no business of theirs, I had to call the installer. He gave me an 800 number to call to get someone to fix it under the traveller's warranty. Left several messages but got no call backs. Called Carmax in Dayton, went through the whole story. The woman in the Service Dept. promised to research it and call me back. No one has gotten in touch with me about this from either N. Attleboro, MA or Dayton, OH. I'm paying for something I don't have and Carmax won't make it right. we bought a mini-van here in June of 2013 and had a terrible experience! the salesperson was fine but when we went to sign the papers, it became awful. they told us to plan on being there about an hour for the closing but we were there 3.5 hours. we met there at 6pm and didn't leave until 9:30pm after an extremely frustrating time. the agent handling the papers was a novice and couldn't answer some questions we had (ok, shouldn't be a problem, get the manager or someone more experienced) but the manager couldn't answer the questions either and then spent hours on the phone with their IT dept. trying to rerun the paperwork. finally another worker got involved and realized the paperwork was correct originally but nobody had been able to explain why things were different from the initial paperwork. so we finally sign the paperwork and leave and 9:30pm (with my son on a school night). two days later as i'm transferring some things into the new van, i realize that although they said a number of times that it had been cleaned, it wasn't. there was trash in the cup holders, spills, etc. back to carmax again for another cleaning! then a few weeks later, the car won't start and it turns out the battery had died so i had to go back YET AGAIN to have the battery replaced. i would never in a million years go to this place again. other locations may be more buttoned up but this one was terrible! read more

I engaged into a purchase for $50,000. This was an out-of-state transaction and I provided the team (Brett and Kyle) there plenty of information and time to do all the research and preparation they need to in order to get this right and completed. By adequate time I mean an entire month. When it came down to doing the transaction they had absolutely no idea what they were doing even though several times along the way they assured me everything is good and prepared, and in the end it turned into a big problem for me making it very troublesome to complete the transaction. To make matters worse they completely misrepresented the condition of the vehicle saying it was "flawless" only to find out it had significant damage. To make it even worse they knew the damage was there but tried to cover it up by keeping the car dirty hoping I would not notice. Even though it was dirty it was still noticeable. I know this was intentional because they said themselves they were surprised about the condition it came in from another location when they first saw it, but didn't disclose the damage on their own, I had to identify it myself and only than did they say they were surprised at the condition themselves when the car first came in. Before you buy any car here you tell them to take the thing through the car wash so you can inspect the condition before you sign anything. If I didn't notice the car was completely misrepresented they would have had no issue with me driving off the lot on their original words of "flawless" from the original location it was transferred from. The car sat on their lot for 3 days after transfer before I was able to come see it, plenty of time to send it through a wash. They also knew I had an appointment to come see it - Could have done it that morning as well. This is basically the Walmart of car buying. Do not expect any thinking, never mind any analytical thinking, or trying to deal with any situation that is outside of a cookie-cutter standard process that the people working there can follow. read more

Today my wife and I were looking for a truck and went to CarMax for a test drive. Asked the lady behind the help desk for a test drive in one of their trucks and she told us that it was going to be an hour. When she saw our upset faces she quickly said a half hour and then said maybe 20 minutes. Her voice was in a rude tone and then she said we could arrange for a test drive tomorrow morning. What kind of car dealership is this we thought to ourselves. We totally felt like we weren't being taken seriously. So we left and went to the Toyota dealer up the street and quickly arranged for a test drive in one of their used trucks. Will probably be buying that used truck from Toyota too. The CarMax in Attleboro lost a sale from us and I would never buy or recommend a car from there because of our experience with them. read more

If you dread the car buying process - Carmax makes it painless and seamless with a no pressure approach! I work in sales so buying a car for me is kind of like having a dream watching yourself but an evil version who is using all your knowledge and tactics except now in some often unethical ways. As a lifetime advertising salesman who sells to CEO's CMO's and the like; I can tell you the sales people here are hired for being down to earth and high integrity. My salesman was 20 years old, his name was Matt, and he was great. He didn't know every single last detail about manufacturing (I get nervous if my sales person knows more than me because that is a tactical advantage, and yes sales people often see a sale like a battle). Matt was awesome and could not be more indifferent what car I chose. I had spoken to 4 OTHER dealerships and walked out on one for lying as I started to sign papers (ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT ON FINANCIAL PAPERWORK). Matt was honest, knew 99% of what I asked, was transparent and friendly, and he was't afraid of a bad answer or saying the wrong thing he just told me the truth the whole way. The entire Carmax experience here in North Attleboro, Massachussetts and be defined in reviews by one word....TRANSPARENT. They gave me a report of every single fleck of damage, work, upgrades that had been done to my car I chose a 2008 BMW 328 Xi with 70k miles. Carmax gives this report before you sign anything and literally tell you about any scratch ding or servicing the car needed when they got it, whether it was a lease or rental before, and yes they also give you a Carfax too for free. I decided on a car being shipped from another state which is another benefit, I got a VERY rare color on my car, good miles, excellent condition, perfect title, every stipulation I had and then some extras for features along with the fact their price was $1,000 cheaper than I haggled (and I haggled very well) at any dealership which was $4-6,000 cheaper than any other dealership, the "closing and docs fees" were under $100 and $4-500 at every other dealership, there were no "advertising fees" which are made up and secretly put on your closing paperwork usually, they didn't surprise me at closing, they fix all the minor damage and do all minor and major work on the car before transacting etc for free and still manage to do so much cheaper than anywhere else and I did not have to haggle the price, hidden fees, etc. Since I live in New Hampshire they also made the 4-hour round trip drive to flat bed the car to the DMV so I could not pay sales tax on the vehicle too, so if you are buying a car in New Hampshire use this place and avoid sales tax! Overall I rate the Carmax experience a 6/5 stars because it was far better than I could have dated even as for, as well as high integrity, low pressure, quality cars, great pricing, it was an incredible experience after the hassle other dealers gave me. Not for nothing but having served in the USMC and it being Memorial Day Weekend made me appreciate their business approach even more, and I so observed it with other customers too who all had a look on their face of "okay when is this guy going to tell me the catch" haha! I am completely disgusted by this establishment and their choice of employees and managers. go in for a trade evaluation. I am greeted nicely by a gentleman who was very pleasant. Then it all goes downhill, the man assigned to do the trade in comes over, I ask some general questions. I am met with faces and sighs and being spoken down to in a very demeaning tone. I asked for a manager again got another sigh and a "my manger Brian is right over there." NOT DOING ANYTHING. 10 mins I wait for this manager, who is literally standing around. I am then greeted by him with half the respect of what should be given to a consumer. He brushed off my concerns telling me the other man I was dealing with has never been known to act like that. Asks for more information and then proceeds to argue with me about what I'm telling him. I am completely disgusted and will never do business here again. Ugh worst experience! Okay.. So I'm a stay at home mom. I used to work a full time job for 6 years and STILL have great credit. When i had my daughter I just couldn't see myself being away from her. I wanted to trade my car in for an SUV, something a little higher up so it wouldn't be so hard on my back lifting the car seat over and over again. I called prior to explain my situation to the woman just to see if it was worth even trying. See told me it's absolutely fine that I'm not working, I'm paying off the loan to my Corolla so therefor is be able to qualify for a trade. I got there, picked out a vehicle, ran my credit and the long process of trying to get this vehicle! Overjoyed I'd be getting an SUV... Yep. After an hour and a 1/2 of being there with my agitated 1 year old but staying hopeful they told me I couldn't do it... Because I wasn't working... I explained to the woman that MY EXACT SITUATION on the phone (same woman mind you) I was so hurt.. Because they PROMISED me I'd get a vehicle. They told me I could get a co-signer and then at that point I realized.. They knew I couldn't get a car.. They just wanted to get me in there... I felt so crushed, lied to and betrayed. Was looking to sell my truck. Wanted to check out CarMax to see if it was really worth my time. Since they whole point of selling to CarMax is that it is hassle free, quick and easy. I will addmit had I decided to sell my truck to them all of that would of been true. But the offer they gave on my truck was ridiculously low. I get that they need to make a profit and they are basically taking your vehicle and sending it to auction. But when they offer 2500 below market value or 1500 below trade-in value. I wasn't expecting market value offer but at least something close to trade-in value should of been expected and for it to be 1500 lower than that is crazy. I can't see how anyone with half a brain would sell their car to these people. So I said thanks but no thanks. Sold my truck a week later for 2500 more than their offer. I guess if you are hurting for cash and need to sell a car quick and don't car about losing $2000 then CarMax is the place for you. I would on recommend use them as a last resort. Like you need money or someone is gonna kill you last resort type situation. read more

I am very mixed about my experience here. Everyone I worked with was helpful, friendly, and responsive. I also sold my used car to them and felt the appraisal and selling process was easy, transparent, and fair. By the way, if they don't recondition and sell the car then they send it to auction, which means they are willing to pay less for the car. In my research it seems like a number of the online resources to determine fair market value can overstate for certain cars what you get at a dealership for both buying or selling a used car. Buying my car was easy. I ordered from another location, test drove it, and purchased it with no drama. As a condition of purchasing the car, I asked that they repaint several panels that were deeply scratched / chipped (went all the way through). They agreed and otherwise said the car met all their requirements and was good to go. I took the car and made an appointment to repaint. I picked the car up on a Sunday, so Monday I took it to my mechanic (knowing I had the 5 day return policy) who noticed a few problems but overall said it was in great condition. So, without going into details, CarMax has now had my car for 1 month for 2 service visits and I've had my car for 2 months. In fixing one problem (bent rims) they caused another (scratched rims), causing another delay. They never fixed my paint issue during the first service visit, only touched it up, and now had to send it out to another place to get it done. They have sent my car to at least 3 other places to fix which is a big part of the delay. They said their car met all their requirements but I've cut my finger badly on broken glass hidden in the trunk, had to fix a control arm fluid leak, had 3 bent rims, and paint damage so deep the outside vendor had to take extra steps to fill in the gaps. The latest rental car they gave me is so smelly from the cleaning that I get a headache and a piece flaps around at highway speeds causing a bad high frequency tapping sound - really annoying. I want to like this place but these issues make for a terrible customer experience. I may buy another car from them (I got a great car with fixable issues) but probably will not be back for service. read more

When I needed to replace my car recently, I avoided traditional car dealerships and focused on Carmax, Carvana and Hertz Car Sales, all of which had no-games pricing and clear processes. I had not purchased a car from any of them before. All three were easy to work with but I purchased from Carmax because I needed a car quickly and the process through the local Carmax would be a bit faster. From my initial online contact to completed purchase, working with Carmax was a pleasant and supportive experience. Everyone I encountered was helpful, attentive and courteous. My Sales Consultant Shawn was a breath of fresh air, professional, authentic and knowledgeable. It was generally a very organized, low pressure experience. I noted light pressure focused on Carmax service plans and this was the only point that felt like "sales" but I didn't feel pushed at all. I presented a loan approval letter from my bank and felt no pressure to finance through Carmax. Prices are at the high end of a realistic range but the customer service has been exceptional before during and after. I fully recommend Carmax. read more

I have been repeatedly let down by the North Attleboro service department. Today I had scheduled an appointment for an oil change and an inspection. When I arrived, I was told that I did not have an appointment although I had booked one for 3/27 at 10:30am over a week ago. They still squeezed me in, but refused to do an inspection because my car "would still fail inspection" - I previously told them I would fail, but I needed to know what had to be fixed on my car in order to pass inspection... so they failed me there. I also asked for my drivers side door handle to be fixed and they said that they had reattached it with no issues, and when I went out to my car after my appointment, the handle fell off before I could even get into the car! When I first bought my vehicle from the Norwood location, my back tires had been INSTALLED BACKWARDS and the service department would not fix the problem for me because I could not prove that I bought the car this way, although I had NEVER brought my car to any other service location. I am thoroughly disappointed. I wasted 4 hours today waiting for an oil change and a broken door handle with no compensation. I would recommend against CarMax in the future because of the issues I have experienced. I regret buying the extended warranty plan for my vehicle when it doesn't save me much at all, and I'm disappointed that I didn't do more research before buying my vehicle here. read more

I fully agree with Brendan D's assessment. We brought in a car we wanted to unload and it certainly came in on the low side. You are much better off selling to another dealer assuming you have time. It might just be New England, I dealt with Carmax in Virginia a few years back and got a very fair price. While the trade process stunk, the sales people seemed friendly and low-key. I wasn't really pressured to drive or buy anything. They just asked if I wished to review what they possessed and offered to bring up a car from CT for free. While that's all well and good, their options are so-so. I purchased a Jetta at another dealer (Scott in RI) for 14k. It has 33k miles and is a loaded 2010 SE. Carmax did have Jettas but they were a) older b) higher miles c) less options and d) more expensive. Overall, Carmax isn't bad but it isn't great either. If they have exactly what you want give them a try (you probably won't be pressured), however its possible another dealer has something similar for a similar or lower price. This is just to warn everyone who deals with these people.....do not buy your car from them!! They are rip off artist.. they will NOT stand by their warranty!! The car they sold to my Daughter is nothing but a LEMON!! We had to bring the car to a repair shop.. really nice guys (New England Tire) got a call less than 1/2hr of it being there. They told us that all 4 coils where completely gone. In less than 10 months it should still be under warranty.... Right?! Well they wont honor their words!! She called CARMAX on Saturday see if they would cover the cost of a rental.... person on the other end of the phone, a CARMAX employee told her.. should not be a problem... guess what...called today & was told "Oh no, we don't do that!!!! I was offered $100 for my car which was running well not a junk. After the CarMax evaluation I ask the Junk car pick up they even offered me $300. Any way I sold my car for $1000. It was my first and probably last experience with CarMax. Its disrespectful to offer a customer less than a junk car (for 2004 Sentra less than 120K miles) and explaining that they have offered a very genuine and well evaluated offer (with Carmax report showing there is no structural damage or engine issue). There is something wrong with your appraisal process I promise you not to go to your facility or recommend any one to sell or buy a car from CarMax. Please teach your representative when your offer is $100 at least talk respectfully not defend your offer with best in the market. If I remembered correctly my car was evaluated at $1500 after taxes and fees and transportation cost for auction and repair to make my car looks new the offer was $100. read more
