Carnegie Coffee Company OBVIOUSLY has incredible coffee, (the Chocolate Macademia Latte they had as a fall special gave me life) but I wanted to give them a shout out for a really great event we hosted there last weekend. Ashley was so attentive, the food was great, and our guests loved the space. To top it off, it was SO affordable to have a lovely catered brunch and a tab at the bar. I visited CCC this summer when I held a meeting for one of the organizations that I am a member of. They were very responsive and accommodating when I inquired after reserving a private space. As it turns out, their conference table is only semi-private. It's tucked away in the back corner of their second floor loft, but it worked just fine for our purposes. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, which was fine. (Not bad at all, not spectacular either.) I had already drank my morning coffee, so I skipped that. I'd definitely like to return and give it a try, since it's hard to find illy coffee in the States. I really love the atmosphere and decor of this place. A real gem in Carnegie. read more

This is by far my favorite coffee house in the city. Not only is it located in the quaint downtown of Carnegie, but it's the city's old post office. The coffee and specialty drinks are made with the best ingredients and their breakfast sandwiches and various pastries are delicious! The spot is also very eclectic and has plenty of room to go read a book or bring a new view to your "home office." The owner and staff are always upbeat and very friendly. This spot also has a vast amount of parking on the street and a large parking lot just across the street. You won't be disappointed visiting this coffee house! read more

I've been coming here for a while and I honestly struggle with determining how to review it. Maybe 2.5 stars would be more realistic, as I don't think its quite as bad as 2 stars suggests, but I'm not sure the 3 star "A-OK" descriptor is really honest. The first couple times I went were great -- good coffee (some really interesting lattes), decent service, and the atmosphere is super cool (although I'll agree with someone else's review that the armchairs are pretty stained and gross). Each time I've gone since then has gotten progressively worse. The service is pretty lackluster in terms of warmth and welcome (they just kind of stand at the register and stare at you blankly until you start ordering) and I've frequently had to repeat simple two-drink orders several times for the cashier to ring it up, but more importantly it's S-L-O-W. There have been one or two times that I ordered food and it took long enough that I genuinely wondered if they had forgotten about it. The sandwiches I've gotten have been great, although I ordered a Honus Wagner on two occasions and I'm relatively sure it was prepared differently each time. The sides have been hit or miss - the bean & basil salad was incredible, but the pasta salad has been bland both times I've gotten it, and the curried cauliflower soup wasn't all that curried. The pastries are usually good, though! There are often "special" lattes on a tiny little board you can barely see on the counter, but the staff don't always know what they are or how to make them. Today I saw they had a London Fog Latte listed on there, so I ordered it (it's one of my faves) and the cashier had no idea what I was talking about. The other person behind the counter said she wasn't sure how to make it either, and it turned out exactly as bad as you'd expect, which is probably my own fault for going ahead and ordering it anyway. The cashier made some comment about how "he" needs to stop coming up with these crazy lattes, but a London Fog Latte isn't some random barista concoction -- it's a pretty common drink to see on a coffee shop menu. But also, if you have a specials board, shouldn't you maybe learn how to make drinks you haven't heard of before? I mean, people are bound to order them when you're advertising them separately. Overall, it's OK, I guess. It's not so terrible that I would say "no, definitely don't waste your time with this place!" but I'd highly recommend going in with low expectations. read more

I'm not a big coffee drinker. I WISH caffeine had did something for me but sadly, I'm left to wake up when my body just decides it's ready. Regardless, from time to time, I enjoy a hot cup when it's the heat I crave. Never have I ever said "This coffee is DELICIOUS." That is, until the first time I tasted the liquid gold at Carnegie Coffee Company. It was a lovely day several months ago, during the Yelp clothing swap, that I first had the pleasure. The barista took a great deal of time describing the process and the actually coffee - Illy (the brand) - and poured us as much of the joe as our hearts could manage. From that point on, I was hooked. As someone who rarely crosses a bridge if it can be helped, I recently found myself brunching with friends at Altius a couple of weeks ago and I had the strongest craving for Illy. Post-brunch, off we went, all...the...way... to Carnegie Coffee company to enjoy two steaming cups and relaxing conversation in, what can best be described, as the most delightful coffee shop ambiance their ever was. This place stands out as a local joint with great atmosphere. The former Post Office has been converted into a bright, airy, and open-concept place without losing some of the original interest of the building. The counter is behind a row of old mailboxes. There is a brick chimney running through the structure, surely there to conduct heat up from the coal-fired furnace in the basement! The staff was friendly and competent during my visit. They offer food, but I just had a snack and a latte. The drink was served in china, and I was able to snag a second level sunny chair. If I lived in the area, this would for sure be a hang out for reading, knitting, discussing politics, and just drinking coffee. I often buy Illy beans to brew at home, and am a big fan of the flavor. It's so encouraging to see this rugged old town being revitalized. It's the antithesis of the chain coffee experience in a strip mall with a drive-thru. Just don't be fooled by the entrance, it really doesn't look like much from the outside, it still has that Post Office vibe from the street. But inside, it's very hip. read more

By far my favorite coffee shop in the 'Burgh! It's the old Carnegie Post Office repurposed into an amazing and inviting space! Cozy chairs are paired together to curl up in and read a book or have a conversation. The coffee is top notch-I usually get a Shakerato. And all of the food is delicious and prepared fresh. This is a must stop if you are near or visiting Carnegie. Located right on the main street in the old post office what a great space. The owner modeled the shop after European coffee shops and it has a great open feel. Lots of spaces to sit and relax and free WIFI. The baristas are so nice and helpful. I ordered an iced green mint tea. They serve pastries and breakfast sandwiches in the morning as well as donuts from a local company, Big Daddy Donut. For lunch they have sandwiches. They are BYOB and starting to offer small plates. They try to use many local ingredients. I tried an appetizer served on French bread with strawberries and honey butter which was delicious. The honey butter was locally made. You can also rent out the space for a bridal or baby shower, work event, birthday party etc. read more

Very nice space. Came her for some tea and conversation with family. They offer a variety of coffees, tea, that's made you you. Also bottled sodas that were interesting flavors. They have sandwiches and light fare. Vegetarian selections. Different types of Pastry. 2 in my party ordered iced coffee and enjoyed it. My husband and I had iced black tea. We were not thrilled with it. It was very weakly brewed. Also they were out of most pastries. After only giving it 2 stars though I would return because I did enjoy the atmosphere and will request the tea to be brewed strong. read more

Carnegie Coffee Company is one of the best coffee shops in Pittsburgh! And, it is an excellent venue for an event. I held a graduate school graduation party here for about 50 people. Space Carnegie Coffee Company is located in a historic old post office building in the heart of Carnegie -- walkable to many downtown Carnegie locations. There is free parking behind the building and a large parking lot across the street as well as on street parking. The interior decor of the building is stellar as old mailboxes are the underpinnings of the main counter in the entrance. The large, old windows frame the space and allow in a large amount of natural light. There is both an upstairs and downstairs that is fit to accommodate the circulation of guests who may want to wander into different portions of the space. Owner Ashley allowed me to have full reign of the space, which was terrific. I could rearrange the furniture as desired, and the staff physically moved / positioned it for me. Coffee The coffee and other drinks at Carnegie Coffee Company are of excellent taste and quality. There is a balanced mixture of fun, experimental new flavorings to try as well as classic drinks and teas, smoothies, etc. Staff The onsite staff were fantastic! They were extremely attentive to the needs of the guests and took pride in creating quality coffee drinks. My guests commented on the excellent baristas. These guys also spent time after the event, cleaning and closing things, showing nothing but patience, grace, willingness, kindness, and concern. They had positive attitudes and were extremely professional. Logistics and planning Owner Ashley was thoughtful, proactive, and communicative in the planning process. She was experienced in this and had creative ideas about how others' had used the space. She was always able to meet and got back to me right away. She offered to help in any way that she could. I believe that Ashley genuinely wanted those who walked into the space to have a great time at my event, which was much appreciated. She allowed me to store some decorations and other items in a storage closet. She was flexible in allowing me to bring in my own food, drinks, etc. I did not have to worry about being nickel and dime for every item I used. I also could easily play my own music over the integrated sound system. Ashley could not have been any more accommodating, organized, and helpful. I am so grateful for her partnership! After-taste Everyone had a GREAT time at the party, in large part due to the SPECTACULAR venue, coffee drinks, and the service.
