Was given their name by hospice and they were wonderful. First off the price for cremation was the lowest from Pearland to Texas City, in some case by half!!! Kevin Byron was our funeral director and he went over and above for us!! He is such a kind and caring man and made us feel his focus was only on us. Carnes Funeral Home was responsible for the care of my Mom after her passing. My Mom had originally taken all the steps to donate her body to Baylor Univeristy for medical education but unfortunately did not meet the criteria at the end. Carnes was the contact for Baylor which is how I was introduced to Carnes. Even though Baylor was out I stayed with Carnes because of the compassion and sincerity Tina exhibited over the phone. Risky but I had a good feeling. And it was a good decision. Tina and I handled all the details over the phone since I was out of State. She worked with the amazing Hospice team and nursing home finalizing care and transportation. I was kept in the loop at all times and had access to Tina as needed. Tina was professional, understanding, responsive and handled the care of my Mom with personal attention. She was amazing easing my stress. One thing I should mention is they are located in Texas City, Texas which is just over an hour from Rosenberg. This is where I had to pick up my Mom's remains or they could have shipped. Yes, it was quite a drive, only because of construction, but I do not regret the distance for the superb service I received. Tina, and Carnes Funeral Home, showed true compassion, professionalism and lessened the enormous stress I was under being out of State while providing exceptional service. Carnes is the contracted bidy handler for anyone that dies in the care of the Texas Prison system. that is their primary source of business. My son died in prison due to their negligent care. he was shipped to Carnes in Texas City due to the fact that they have a large cooler area to keep those infortunate to die in custody. that is their waiting area to have autopsy done in Galveston. Carnes personel start out amicable but soon react to questions about time without compassion. Then they pretty much leave it up to the state to give you any accurate timing to make plans for funeral arrangements. We did manage to await it all out and get our son and have the funeral. After word when asked about getting a death certificate two weeks later, the attacked me for pressing to get it. I was told the prioritized our son the get him to us and we should be appreciative of that. I was advise to shut up and wait it might be a couple of months or more getting a death certificate. Maybe that is the best available but it was not compassionately handled as a funeral home should act. But if your future business Is guaranteed by the Texas Prison System why act appropiately at that point. If you have a choice look else where. If you are n the same boat as me call TDCJ medical in Galveston for any information. It is too much trouble for Carnes. read more

If there were ten stars I would rate Carnes a 10! I have attended several funerals at this location but my Mom was my first that I planned here. I'm my mind before going to Carnes I was going over everything I thought I had to do myself, flowers, put pictures together with music, and just worry about how I wanted everything to go. Well as soon as I met Kevin Bryon, my anxiety went away. If it was not for him and the planning he did for our family, I would have never been able to enjoy my moms send off to the Lord. Montrell was a very helpful person doing our time of grievance. Always there for when we needed to change, delete or add extra to the funeral plan and never complained. My dad is a Marine and he went beyond to make my dad service was memorable. Got so many compliments. Always called to check on us to make sure we were ok during and after my father's funeral. My father passed away on May 8th and I honestly feel like Carnes has been holding his ashes hostage for the past month. I was naive and let a 'family friend' pay for his arrangements only to have that person cancel the payment a week later. It's been a month now and that 'family friend' has stolen my fathers belongings and drained his bank accounts. On top of this I'm also having to deal with Carnes Funeral Home refusing to contact me so that I can pay to obtain my fathers ashes. All I want is to put my father to rest with my 5 siblings. It's been hard enough. Why am I being made to fight for this? I understand my situation is unusual, but that's no excuse. Unfortunately I have had to attend funerals twice this year and they were both at Carnes. I have no idea how the families are treated, serviced or dealt with, but as a outside looking in Carnes left me wanting more. The initial impression was the large open foyer. It felt like an office building. Also, the main viewing room was large and decorated rather coldly. Funeral homes replaced your personal residence back in the 40s and 50s. They they were built with small intimate spaces that imitated your home. Also, the family (in both instances) were placed in the middle of the room. There was no privacy (if they wanted it). I think of funeral homes with the small room off to the side of the chapel that the family could veil if there was too much grief to be borne with people looking at you. I am just old school and appreciate the older style of a funeral home. read more

My family and I had the worst experience that a grieving family could ever want to experience. We were at the Texas City location with funeral director Mike Carnes. When it was time for us to leave he went up front and told us "Ok it time to leave you are dismissed!" He was VERY mad and rude due to the fact that someone went and stood next to the deceased body and started to pray the rosary and that we had 50 people in attendance to view the body, we were willing to pay extra if that was what he wanted. He told us that the services would be on Saturday at the Texas City location then we were informed that he could no longer accommodate us on a Saturday that it would have to be during the week, even though family and friends were calling both locations and they were told that it would be Saturday at the Texas city location, he then proceeded to tell me that we could have the memorial at the Galveston location from 12-1, I informed him that I would be sending the Obituary to the news papers myself and he said that he would do it that it was part of the services that were paid for, I emailed him the Obituary and he didn't even ask me if he could add other people to the Obituary! if i would have wanted any other names on there i would have put them there myself! I will never step foot at any one of the locations ever again!! read more

I would imagine it is not often that a grieving family would take much notice of the intricate designs of services provided for such a time; or take the exercise to write a letter of commendation and appreciation in the aftermath. And while the family may have felt so deep a loss or have their focus on more prevailing issues, nevertheless the compassion, care and professional services of Carnes did not go unnoticed nor should we neglect to make mention of it. With that gained trust and respect during an unfortunate time in our lives, I wish to personally thank and make special mention of Kevin. He has handled this entire process from top to bottom with exemplary diligence to professionalism while giving it the patience, understanding and compassion far beyond the normal standards one can assume to receive in matters of such deep and personal requirements. I speak from experience because of a similar event with the passing of my beloved mother and the services of another funeral home and I am therefore able to distinguish the subtle and not so subtle differences by knowledge of comparison and intellectual observation. This is the second time we have needed Carnes services. Both times, Kevin was our guide through our process. Both times, Kevin went above and beyond to make an extremely emotionally draining and heartbreaking process, as easy as it could be. Only a one star because at least one has to be chosen. Myself and my family were treated horribly during a time of grief. I was shocked to know that it is perfectly acceptable for this funeral home not to pick up your deceased loved one for 4-5 days. 4-5 days of staying in the morgue and delaying preparations, because they don't have enough staff on the weekends? Yes, I was told this by the staff. What kind of funeral home runs like this? (although, they did pick up in 2 days, but only because we called them on it, and then would not release body until 2 more days). All they had to do was pick up the body and release it to my local funeral home. They could not give me an exact date or time and tried telling me it was because they did not know if there was an autopsy being done. On the date of death I refused an autopsy and verified it with hospital, so not sure why they couldn't find that out when I could, but I believe they may of just been lying to me about that reason. I was treated with disdain and patronized when I was questioning them on their policies, and was told yes, this was their policy. There was witnesses to this conversation that I hope will carry this complaint forward. It took 4 days before my loved one could be brought home and plans to be made because of their policies. Unacceptable. I hope everyone reads this and thinks twice about using this company. They do not know compassion or empathy and I would not use them to bury a fish. read more

After hiring Legacy Funeral Services License # FH-706 on line thinking they were local Carnes stepped in and took a truly horrible experience and made a compassionate and caring experience out of the situation. They had my husband returned in a short time , Tammy was such a tremendous help and then Kevin stepped in and all my problems were solved. A family member passed away in hospice at the Michaels Unit at Tennessee Colony Carnes is contracted with the State to pickup the deceased. Now they are charging the family for the mileage from the TDCJ Facility to their facility because the family is claiming the body. Sounds like sour grapes because they are not doing the whole enchilada the family has a limited amount of money to work with all they want is to get him home. This is not a Company I would recommend no heart just dollar signs. read more

i loved Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City Texas! Kevin was our representative for us in 2013 when my precious sister passed. We had raised enough money to the penny for 2 hour service. We made out own special CD for the service and has LFO Church,,, Pastor Jeanna Gilligan presided. Bonnie had already had hands laid on her by many but especially the pastor. So what I am getting is, That Kevin had made up 25 programs for family and friends. He allowed us to use one of the coffins they had so we could spread her dolphin blanket over the coffin, Bonnie was cremated.....Kevin took care of everything. We still have the opportunity to write her a tribute or light a candle for letting her know that we are missing her and still love her very much. They also have bible Hymns if you have not previously recorded your own. I would record my own for the last 2 songs. I hope someone will be kind enough to sing a few hymns so that they will be beautiful. I was really shocked when those songs played!!! HORRIBLE, UNPROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE! We made an appointment and we called right before the appointment time that Mario needed to reschedule due to an emergency that came up. We were pulling into the parking lot when the call came in. Since we insisted on being seen instead of having to mentally prepare for the process and drive back to a different appointment, he decided to make it happen and said "We could do better." We were given incorrect information when the paperwork was signed to have our loved one cremated. We were told that communication would be provided for each step of the process, but NO communication was provided. When my son called to find out the status of his father's remains, the person who originally helped us (not a funeral director) told him that he has been there since Aug. 20th. Our loved ones ashes were sitting at the funeral home for over a week and no one bothered to call us. We found out when my son called them. My son explained what he was told and their lack of action. Mario's response was "We could do better." That is the second time he used that phrase! Instead of using that phrase as an excuse, they SHOULD DO BETTER! When we asked to speak with Kevin Byron, Funeral Director in Charge, to make an appointment to speak with him in person, he did not have time to make an appointment with us because he was too busy. He instead made excuses over the phone and did nothing to correct the hell he put our family through because of his poor management skills and his employees lack of action. "How can we make this better?" really means we don't really care what we did to you because we legally did our job. They called me at last minute to tell me my husband was being cremated and to bring what I wanted for him to be clothed in, despite my repeated calls and inquiries on when I could do that. This funeral home showed no level of customer service. Spoke to 3 different people before finally reaching Director/manager of this location in South Houston. Dealing with the lost of a loved one is already tough enough. But this location brushed us off because it was after 6PM. We spoke to several people and was never informed that we MUST have an appointment. There are no hours posted and no mention that they are by appointment only. My family lost a new born at birth 2 days ago and we were just trying to put her at peace. Tim was the manager we spoke with and then Alice who claimed not to be the argument type passed us to Kim. NO HELP IN OUR TIME OF NEED! There are other places who would jump at the contract. I felt like we were trying to purshase a pair of shoes and the store was closed...not laying our loved one to rest. read more

My mother died on October 18, 2014. Needless to say, it has been the most traumatizing experience in my lifetime. Her services were entrusted with Carnes. Dorthea L. Jones was the funeral director that handled her burial. Ms. Jones is extremely disrespectful. Her insensitivity only added to an alrighty difficult moment. Her constant display of arrogance took away from the important task at hand. It became all about her through her desire to wrongfully assert control. DO NOT USE THE FLORIST THAT IS LINKED TO THEIR WEBSITE: I live in Houston. Over the Easter weekend a coworkers mother passed away. This florist was directly linked to Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City where the private viewing was taking place. I spent an hour on the phone Friday evening with this florist and specified that the flowers needed to be at the funeral home by 2:00pm Saturday. I was assured that it was not a problem. I ordered $160 arrangement from all of her friends at work. I attended the graveside service on Monday. There were 2 arrangements there and neither of them were from us. I was furious. I called the florist and they basically said they didn't know what happened and they would refund my money. I got a call back saying they would be happy to send flowers if they did not live far from the funeral home. They did but I informed them that she would be back in the office on Wednesday and she worked in Texas City. I was told that was not a problem. Well, on the way home I got a call saying that the work place was out of their delivery range. I drive past the Carnes Funeral Home everyday, so I clocked it this morning. It is 7 miles from the funeral home. Seriously!??!!! They couldn't drive 7 miles to attempt to make their mistake right. UNBELIEVABLE! read more

My brother picked Carnes Funeral Home as the place for me to contact in the event of his death. They were to handle the arrangements. I have NEVER found a more INEPT organization in my life - After my Funeral Director took money from one family member to redirect my brothers ashes in contradiction to the original pans, I only dealt with a Manager - that proved to be just as frustrating. Dealing with this Funeral Home was a MISERABLE experience that drug out over a period of 54 days. It took almost 2 months to get my brothers ashes finalized for disposition. They failed in so many ways, a discount on the Cremation services was provided - then my bank account was charged TWICE for that final fee. When a loved one passes, it is hard enough - BUT dealing with this level of incompetence while trying to finalize arrangements in accordance with a loved ones' wishes borders on criminal.
