I really had no idea what I might find, but I heard so many intriguing things that I had to check it out. It's good that a place like this exists, but I think it just scratches the surface and appeals to the curious drive bys rather than people who are into witchcraft and magic. I must admit though, as we get older, there are parts that are strenuous to explore. Thank goodness we did the deeper parts earlier in our lives. One difference this time, which we didn't know about until we had parked up, is pre-booking. We had to book in on my iPhone and wait until a slot was available. No problem. Too difficult and costly? You know they did this before WWII... with less resources and technology than you have at your disposal, right? Really, just watch the TV show on the gardens because now instead of trying to restore it to its past glory, the management grow flowers to sell. If they took all the flowers in their gift shop and planted them in their gardens then maybe they'd be a step closer to restoring anything. But they've had this land for many many years now and they only do the bare minimum to get ppl there. Great history and potential but the management needs to step up! within walking distance of okehampton town centre, the ruins of the okehampton castle stand in a…read morestunning location. with okehampton being just on the edge of dartmoor national park the views are quite spectacular. the castle itself is pretty much just ruins now, but there is an audio guide you can hire out ( headphones and tape player really) which talks you through the history of the castle as you walk around. quite a nice day out if you are in the area, kids get a bit bored though.

Reasonably priced beer, wine, and spirits. The layout of this venue is a mess-so many sets of doors, it's like a maze. The merchandise for sale was almost impossible to locate after the gig, as all of the exits put people out onto the street again. This was disappointing, as I hoped to buy merchandise. The staff was incredibly rude and ignorant, speaking badly about the artist performing that night, and making fun of the people who had queued overnight to be front row. It was highly evident that the venue staff did not take their jobs seriously at all. Fortunately, the gig was fantastic.

I have to say, the acoustics are dreadful. They are so bad that a few years ago, motorhead could not play there as deep purple were there when motorhead would have been there. motorhead then played exeter university that night and have never been back to plymouth. The other problem is the scheduling, where there is no one there all year and then everyone comes in November. I suppose this is common, though. All in all, not as good as the old St austell collisseum - ah, those were the days!!!! Oh, and there is a skaiting rink and other things to do, although I have never sampled these.
