Wow... we sit down at the bar super excited just a few minutes after tip off of Friday March Madness. Bartender on a loud rant, "I hate college sports. Everything about them!" It only devolved from there. We were simply told "no" when we asked to order specific beers. I guess we should have understood that to mean that they were out of them? Also, she took about 15 minutes to bring one beer although she was just sitting at a table with her other servers while we waited. No apology or explanation when it eventually came. The server could not do anything about it. Stopped in for lunch on a Monday while waiting for check-in at my hotel. A very nice blonde lady seated me in a comfy booth. Ordered a bowl of chili, which was delicious. Unfortunately we did not have a good seat with a view. We were seated closer to the bar and near a artist who was playing guitar and performing Childish Gambino's Stay Woke the pop version. He was extremely talented however the music was so loud over the speaker. This could have been adjusted. We decided on garlic parm chicken zingers, fried shrimp /fries plate and as always I had the Braised Pulled Chicken Quesadilla. The food arrived and it looked terrible. Not what I would expect from CAH at all. My quesadilla has always been consistently good. Fresh and with clean presentation. Last night it tasted like canned chicken, mushy and just lackluster. Our zingers.... I don't know what happened there. I really don't. The sauce and batter was served with our zingers separately in a pile on the platter. Messily plated. Chicken was not good. The manager visited in an attempt to make things right but came off combative about "our" dining experience. I was grateful he did not charge for food that was not consumed however I will not return. Their fries were the right crispness as well. After I finished my burger I ordered Golden Monkey which I was excited to see on the menu. Now the reason Carolina Ale House is getting 3 stars this time had nothing to do with food or drinks and everything to do with Void of Joy Joe. Joe was our waiter and my experience I believe would of been a lot better if we had someone with a tad bit of emotion. Maybe he was a robot. We had to ask for napkins, specials, condiments. We went around lunchtime and thankfully there wasn't a wait. We actually were seated within minutes of coming. Grant it it wasn't that busy but you can tell they're a bit short staffed. I appreciate our waitress for being very polite and helpful. I ordered wings and a side salad and we shared an order of calamari. The calamari was good but I would have preferred them to be cooked a bit more. I like my calamari to have more a crunch and not too chewy. The salad was good and a nice portion. We came here to watch the FSU football game while visiting some friends on a Saturday night. The place was packed with football fans of all teams, so I suggest coming a little earlier than your game in order to get a prime spot by a TV. We lucked out and were seated within 5 minutes, right in the middle facing most of the TVs. We had to constantly ask for a manger in order for them to put our game on a close TV, so that was a tad annoying, but understandable as it is first come first "watch" on the TVs. There was a group before us who had already requested their game on the big screen. We ordered Corona buckets for the table since it seemed like the easiest and most efficient way to get drinks. The food did take quite a long time, since the place was so busy. Our waitress did make up for the delay, as she constantly checked up on us, and was so sweet! It's getting 3 stars due to the quality of the food. One of the meals that came out was completely cold and when we got it back, all that was done was a little microwave action.
