If y'all want to know how REAL Southern food taste like when it is cooked right - this is the place. I have never been to a southern food restaurant that tastes just the way I would cook it at home. You can tell they do not shy on those extra ingredients (sometimes more expensive) like butter , cheese, spices that add more flavor. I have a four point system, might be a little arrogant but it's mine. Ffrst point is for the facility. Second: Food taste and presentation. Third: How are the servers. Fourth: Is the price reasonable to value? I've been to Thunderbird buffet, Halls buffet, Little pigs Buffet all in South Carolina, all include drinks and all are less that $11. In my opinion Carolina buffet does not meet the standards each restaurant meets. To spend almost $13 here as compared to the other $2 a plate less buffets is unfortunate. It real because there is no real competition in the area. The facility will win no beauty contest. It's neat and clean but is serious in need of a Chef Ramsey makeover. If you present a card for payment the first thing they want to know is "how much of a tip you want to leave"! Now, I don't know about you but I like to leave my tips based upon service and not expectation. Now to be fair, I did enter this facility approximately 1:50pm in the afternoon and they close for lunch at approximately 2:30 PM. They did open again at about 4:30pm for a dinner service and I must say that they are very popular with the locals. Now that might be because there are no other buffets for tens of miles from that location. And you know people love and all you can eat restaurant. I promise you if there were competition they might actually step up their game. Scale from 1 to 10. Facility rates a (6). Primary for basic cleanliness. Food taste and presentation: (7) for taste, (5) presentation. The bar was messy and the food trays were empty of fresh food. Food was on the buffet surfaces and the food in the trays were dry and unflattering. The food I did try was very flavorful and without a bunch of salt. It tastes better than it looked. Even if you close shortly, it's your duty to provide fresh food for paying guests. You should not have to scrape the sides of the tray for food. It really did not look palatable at all. Even the easy thing to cook, fried chicken, was dark and left to dry. Server. What server? I even had to ask for a tea refill. The cashier sat me and that was it. The plates and utensils are all serve yourself. For that you want a tip? Price: It should be $8.99 or $9.99 if you include drink and I'll decide tip. Well, I cannot give this restaurant a glowing recommendation but possibly an earlier time would have made the difference. Normally I would wait until I've been at a location at least twice but I don't plan to return. Now, It's only my opinion. Ask someone else and they might crow about the location. Mums the word in my case. The people are nice enough. And they have a good following. This is a deep country buffet with old world appeal but could definitely use a touch up. I had to have my veggies today at the Carolina Buffet and they were good. Just a little bit of all the colors is good for you. But, I was a little bad and had roasted chicken (their fried is outstanding) and mac 'n cheese. Great tasting buffet. Smaller buffet than your typical Golden Corrals or BBQ buffet but I feel that gives them an advantage. Because it is smaller, it allows them to prepare they food they have very well. As a fried okra fan, I can tell you those were the best fried okra I've had in years. Actually, pretty much everything I tried was awesome. The only thing I was really missing is they didn't have any BBQ or hush puppies when I went on Sunday. The pot roast and mashed potatoes were amazing. On Sundays, you want to get there when they open because there is usually a line and it fills up pretty quickly. 20-30 mins after they opened, people had to wait for a table. read more

I ate at Carolina Buffet for the 4th time tonight and it was my husband's first time eating there. Let me apologize upfront for having no pictures to post from this most recent visit because I was sooooo hungry. Yet again, Carolina Buffet provided good food and good service. We got the buffet to go. Some of the buffet items were low and the servers quickly brought out hot pans to replenish the buffet line. This restaurant has a great reputation in the rumor mill. I must say the food was good. Good country goodness. I was expecting it to be better. I have definitely had better. It may have been the time of day. ( I came about an hour before closing) but I expect the buffet to be excellent from start to finish. I'm not ruling them out, I will be returning. I'm going to need an intervention or more adult supervision if I keep eating like this. This location is bustling with customers and it seemed like a steady flow of patrons coming in and out but the people working there were super friendly and made me feel very welcome. I went with the dinner buffet and my drink was included. If you'd like one of the bottled drinks there is a different price to be added to your bill. You seat yourself and your server will take your drink order and tend to you. The level of attention was at the level where it was appreciated but not disruptive. Patrons can serve themselves from either side of the buffet and they use disposable plates and cutlery. Not mad about it at all as it forces you to get a clean plate each trip and no worries about any residue on your utensils. Now lets talk about this peach cobbler. It was so good and made just the way I like it. I found myself alternating bites of the piping hot fried chicken with bites of peach cobbler and rocking in my chair without concern for whomever may be looking. The parking is dynamic as this is a busy area so just wait a few minutes and you'll snag a spot from someone departing. The option to get your food to go is available as well. All items were replenished in a timely manner, clean tables and fresh veggies for those who limit their meat intake. I do warn you, if you're counting calories abandon that and just enjoy and promise yourself that you'll get up early and put in extra gym time the following day. The food here is really good! Your meal comes with water, tea or lemonade. Soda is extra, but it seemed uncommonly served. My son wanted a regular Coke or Pepsi, but the only sodas offered were Diet Coke or Coke Zero. Best banana pudding I've tasted! The service here was alright. Our drinks were kept full, though we did have to ask for someone to clear our plates as our table was getting crowded. The interior of the restaurant is as basic as it gets; a buffet along the far wall in a room full of tables and chairs. It feels very much like gathering in a fire hall or VFW, which gives it a friendly quality, but it would be nice to have dividers between tables for a more intimate feel.
