I was walking through Darling Harbour the other day with a family friend. She has a 3 year old 'L' who I babysit sometimes and I have adopted the moniker 'Aunty Cinta'. Her gorgeous little face lit up when we saw the Darling Harbour Carousel. There is something magical about them. They have been around for years and invoke a childlike reverie.
This Carousel in particular was imported to Australia in 1894. It has had many a restoration and been passed around to many different homes but has somehow managed to be protected. On the gate is the history of the carousel and the family behind it, an interesting read.
This nostalgic form of entertainment excited not only 'L', but myself. I took her on there and if she didn't love me before, she sure does now. If you need to win some brownie points be sure to visit the enchanting horsies.
