Having recently moved to the Woodford Green area, and needing somewhere to walk my two energetic…read moredogs, I discovered Claybury Park quite swiftly and out of much necessity. For those in the local area who do not utilise this lovely open space, I feel the need to encourage you to get out and explore. The park used to be the grounds that surrounded an old psychiatric 'asylum', which has since been demolished and has been replaced by a gated community of luxury houses. Much to the local community's good fortune, the surrounding land has been left undeveloped, and this is now known as 'Claybury Park'. I do feel that the term 'park' is a little misleading; the land is quite rural, with mostly mud paths and lots of woodland. There are a number of lakes, with one being quite large and is surrounded by a picnic area, which I hope to take advantage of, if the British weather ever allows it. I feel that this 'park' would benefit from better paths and clearer signs (for new walkers, one can get lost), and this is why I have rated it as slightly above average.

There are many paths to follow on foot or on bike if you are an avid explorer. There is some wildlife to watch but it is not over run. There are many benches and picnic tables situated around the forest and fields that can make great pit stops for lunch etc. There is a large pond with some fish, though this can get abit smelly in the summer time.

They sell all kinds of hardware in the shop like nails, screws, paints, glues and tools and then outside they have a big wood yard where you can buy timber and boards. They also sell things like fencing panels and other garden bits. The staff are very helpful and if you are not sure what you need to buy for a job you can explain it to them and they will help you find what you need.

There is always lots of bits outside on the path for you to have a look at as you go past and Don is usually sitting out there in his armchair waiting for customers. He is a very friendly person and will help you sort out if you want something delivered to your home. He will also come round and give you a price if you have something you want to sell or a house that needs clearing.

Prices seem a bit steep but there really isnt any other quality shoe shop in the town! The kids love going there as the staff are always really lovely and make the children feel welcome. The prices not the cheapest on the market when you compare them to the likes of Ikea but they are slashed compared to equivalent quality goods on the High Street. Access is easy, the shop is down the road from the Broadway and is a 10-15 minute walk from the main bus stops. The best place to park is around the corner in the bowling alley car park. The road is patrolled all the time by traffic wardens so avoid the temptation to pull up outside the shop.
