As well as selling simple, discount furniture at cheap prices it stocks a wide range of beds - including orthopaedic ones - which frankly is a godsend if you have a jippy shoulder (like me). Despite being relatively young for such things their range of reclining chairs is pretty awe inspiring and they are happy to deliver at a time that is convenient. They are also great at providing brilliant customer service - when I got a bit confused by a recent purchase (a headboard for the afore mentioned orthopaedic bed, which just wouldn't sit right) they were really kind and patient - even when it turned out I was trying to fit it upside down. A really lovely shop.
We ordered a bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and headboard from Levine's…read more We were initially told we'd have to wait a couple of weeks for the headboard which we said was fine. The first delivery only included the bed (the drawers and wardrobe had been left behind). We rearranged for the drawers and wardrobe and waited in throughout the delivery slot assigned but nobody ever showed up and nobody ever communicated this to us. We were then told that the 2 week wait on the headboard would be another month. In the end, it took the best part of 4 months for the headboard to be delivered. No discount was ever offered by management despite this terrible service. I would seriously discourage anybody using Levine's in future. I would however say that the furniture is decent quality (when it eventually arrives).

Having swung by…read morethis shop a few times, I was very interested to learn that it deals mostly in furniture restored by people taken in by the Betel charity and taught, among other things, how to restore furniture. The amount of stuff in the shop on West Bromwich High Street is staggering. There are tables, bookcases, chairs, stools, footrests, wardrobes, chests of drawers, the lot. The prices of a lot of the stuff are quite high - we're talking £150 for a restored bookcase. Generally this is because it's proper old-school hand-carved stuff and not horrific 1970s cast-offs which line their aisles. Most of it's not particularly my taste (or in my price range) but the quality is fantastic and probably far better than you'd find in a lot of antique shops.

All this stuff if located upstairs in the store which is very near to Centenary Square. Downstairs is a mixture of lighting, kitchen ware and funky wallpapers. Even if you don't own your own home I would recommend popping by incase you want to jazz up your bedroom with a new vase, candles or picture.

It is fairly basic inside, it is not fancy, but it stocks all the DIY bits and bobs that you would expect. It looks a bit shabby from the outside, but do not let that put you off as the prices here are reasonable and probably less than you would pay at a huge chain store. I would much prefer to come somewhere like this than to a chain store. The staff are pleasant in here and were quite helpful when I popped in. I have to admit when walking into this shop for the first time, it did look like a tip and the appearance in one half of the shop was not great. Especially as this is a carpet shop, you would expect the cleanliness and appearance to be first-class. I didn't get that impression when walking into the shop. But the other half of the store that had all the carpets was in much better condition. There were a number of different carpets in terms of designs and colours. I have to say the carpets on sale here are for sure affordable and not too expensive. The staff are OK but I still think Britannia Carpets could do with being refurbished. Just by entering the store, people could so easily be put off and I would understand.

This might make them stand out a bit more from all the other local carpet shops. I first discovered the Persian Rug Centre about 8 years ago when I needed a new rug for a new house…read moreI'd moved into. Someone suggested 'the rug shop' in Selly Oak so I popped in on the off chance, I wouldn't go anywhere else now! This is not the cheapest place to buy a rug, in fact some of their prices are absolutely staggering, but the sheer quality and workmanship that has gone into each rug makes it well worth the money. You'll get your first taste of what to expect as soon as you look at the exterior of the shop, rugs are hung in the windows and also displayed outside in the drier months. The choice of rugs will draw you into the shop, and I defy you to walk away without buying anything! There is a good selection of modern and classically styled rugs, most with a definite Arabic design in a huge range of colours which will compliment any living room. The designs are stunning, some are simply patterned and others depict scenes from unknown books and texts. Absolutely beautiful. There are also a wide range of plain rugs from thick furry rugs to more basic woven works which are more towards the budget end of the range. I have bought seven or eight rugs from them over the years, both for myself and as gifts, and have never had cause to complain about anything. There are never any loose threads or bad stitching on any of the rugs and they are of the highest quality. I love the fact that there is such a wide range of sizes available as rugs are one of those things where one size definitely does not fit all, I had cause recently to look for a long thin rug for my mother in laws hallway and I found the perfect thing at the Persian Rug Centre whereas I have never before seen a rug with these very particular dimensions. You can expect to pay around £60 for the cheapest rug in here, which will probably be one of their plainer options, and prices will then rise according to the brand or thickness of the ruf you want to buy. I have seen rugs in here priced at £400 and £500, and these are absolutely stunning although just a bit over budget for me! The staff in the Persian Rug Centre are extremely knowledgeable about the rugs they sell, an Asian family who are always happy to chat to customers about the rug making traditions and will help you make an ideal purchase. I always feel that they are not forcing me into buying anything and on the odd occasion when I have not been able to make my mind up I have been urged to go away and think about it, a novelty these days as usually this kind of shop will keep you hanging around as they are so desperate for a sale! Next time I need a rug I will definitely be taking a trip to the Persian Rug Centre, I'm actually considering buying my sister a rug for Christmas as I'm sick of tripping over her tatty rag rug in the living room - I'm sure I can find something in this special little shop to suit her eclectic tastes!
