This place was super good! We went while in town visiting family. Actually we traveled just over an hour to get here. My husband's sister and husband insisted it was well worth the drive and it was! It was a Saturday, but we got there right when they opened. It is suggested you get reservations, but I don't think we had one. But hardly anyone was there when we sat down, but it filled up pretty fast! If you have 4 or more people you can do family style. I decided I really wanted some chicken livers, so I passed on family style. My half order of livers and potatoe soup and drink about added up to what Family style was priced at, but I wasn't super hungry and really wanted the livers. Tea or lemonade comes with family style. Soda is extra. My BIL said he didn't hear them say that and he's been there many times. I didn't hear either, but asked why my husband got tea and he said since it was included and it made me laugh. They bring out the salad and then the main meal. They had 2 kinds of coleslaw and then went with fried chicken and roast beef. The had a choice of sides as well. I wasn't really involved with choices, but it all looked really good. I thought service was top notch. We never went without and they were quick to take away empty dishes and bring full ones if requested. I am sure we will be back and I will opt for family style. The chicken looked delicious! I made my parents jealous with my photos!

While visiting my parents my sister and her husband decided we all needed to go to Haubstadt to eat at the Carriage Inn. It's just over an hour driver, but they said it was worth it and they offered to drive us all there. They were so right. We were there just after 4 and got a table right away. It did sound like you would normally want to have a reservation. When we left it was very busy. The main reason we came was for the fried chicken. It's all my brother-in-law talked about on the drive. We opted for family style which is unlimited. We went with fried chicken and roast beef. Our sides were green beans, mashed potatoes with dressing, and corn. We also got both coleslaws, a vinegar based and the other mayo based. I preferred the sour coleslaw, but everyone else liked the sweet. I also really liked the fried chicken. It was probably the best I've ever had. The green beans were a little mushy, but the mashed potatoes were good. The bread was homemade and very light. We were all too full to get dessert. I am glad we had the chance to check out the Carriage Inn while we were in town.

Excellent! Food is great, and has a nice German pub type of feeling. I suggest the Reuben with German fries!

We had Lori on Monday who brought our drinks and refills. On Friday we had Darcy doing the honors. Both were very friendly and efficient! Very family friendly and the deserts were so good that we had to make a trip to their bakery to pick up a couple delicious pies.

Gasthof Amish Village, Montgomery IL. June, 2026. My husband and I were traveling along US-50, and…read morewe reached this buffet-style restaurant for lunch. Having grown up in PA, I'm very familiar with "Pennsylvania Dutch" or Amish and Mennonite cooking. I would characterize this style of cooking as hearty, simple, and high-calorie comfort food. The buffet included three main sections. The first included two soups (chicken noodle and vegetable), salad bar items, prepared salads (such as coleslaws and broccoli salad), and some gelatin molds. The second station was hot items (meats, gravies, vegetables). Finally, there was a dessert station with an assortment of cobblers, cookies, cupcakes, soft serve ice cream, and more. I noticed other patrons with homemade white bread but I somehow missed it on the buffet. Overall, there was a good selection of items available. I most enjoyed the meatloaf, mashed potatoes, broccoli salad, and berry and peach cobblers. The biggest misses were the chicken noodle soup (which didn't seem to contain any chicken pieces, was only lukewarm, and very over-salted) and the chocolate ice cream, which was runny. My husband and I found the food to be generally bland. (Granted, Amish food isn't known to have a spicy profile). In addition, they didn't offer some foods and desserts that I generally associate with Amish cooking -- pickled eggs, Harvard beets, macaroni and cheese, cinnamon apples. shoo fly pie, apple dumplings, fry pies, Whoopie pies, etc. (Admittedly, the traditional Amish foods in the Midwest may differ from those in Pennsylvania). The restaurant had a lot of seating and was clean, and had a cute gift shop that you passed through on the way in and out. Our server was sufficiently attentive. Parking was free and plentiful. The all-you-can-eat lunch buffet was $16.99 per person; drinks not included.
