The fountain is amazing - my first thought was just "wow". The fountain was designed by Laredo Taft in 1887. The statue honors General Lafayette, the city namesake. His figure stands majestically over the pool below. Panels around the base also honor John Purdue (namesake of Purdue University), an artesian well beneath the fountain, early pioneers of the city, Union solders who fought in the Civil War, and William Digby (founder of Lafayette). The fountain is surrounded by beautiful landscaping. Local business workers sat around the fountain eating lunch or reading in the serene setting and the sounds of the fountain water. There is free street parking about a block away. The fountain and Courthouse are definitely worth a visit.

In 1887, the piece was erected on the site and appears to have undergone some TLC along with the courthouse. The main figure atop the fountain is that of the Marquis de Lafayette who was instrumental in helping the inexperienced and underfunded American military during the Revolutionary War. Below that life sized figure, there are four oval reliefs and below that, an octagonal shape with each of the sides bearing an ornate framing around the names of honorees with ties to the city. Honorees are quite varied and include pioneers, soldiers, John Purdue, and William Digby, the town founder. Earlier versions of the courthouse are also honored. My experience being called for jury duty was fine. The people who work here are very professional and efficient. The building itself is beautiful. If you do have to serve on a jury and spend some time here, there are lots of restaurant options to choose from. I ended up being dismissed before lunch. Keep in mind that they don't allow you to park outside of the courthouse itself. There's a free parking garage a block away at which jurors are instructed to park. I would add an additional 10 minutes to your trip to find parking and walk to the courthouse. It's not far away, but there's a traffic light that takes a while. Also keep in mind: Before you enter the courthouse, you have to walk through a body scanner and empty your pockets. It's very easy but also kind of a pain, but I guess it's necessary in these strange and unpredictable times.

After the quick security check, the women at the Information Desk explained directions clearly and made it very easy to find. What a pleasant surprise when we walked into the Clerk's Office without a line or even a wait. Asked what I needed, I told her and she didn't bat an eye, roll her eyes or take the deep, loud sigh. She was friendly, professional, personable and efficient!! She continued and less than 5 minutes later I had the Certified License in my hands! Poof! Was that a dream? Wow! We were happily stunned with the entire process. The experience felt like we had a personal friend behind the counter. If you need to get an old Marriage License don't totally dread the process. Hopefully, yours will go as smoothly as ours.

The Howard County Courthouse sits on Courthouse Square in Kokomo, Indiana. The art deco building…read morewas designed by local architect, Oscar Cook, and retains most of its original grandeur. The building was dedicated October 20, 1937 after a fire destroyed the first courthouse during 1927. The building is constructed of limestone. Bronze relief likenesses of the founder of Kokomo, David Foster and inventor, Elwood Hayes cover the doors on the main entrance. Grand art deco light fixtures stand at the entrances to the building. Local Sheriff Deputies screen visitors prior to entry into the building. The deputies are friendly. This is very much a working courthouse, bustling with activity. The building is not really set up for tourists. But you can walk around. Photography is not allowed in certain rooms and areas. Art deco style war memorials holding the names of those that served stand directly inside the entry and around the foyer. Above the foyer is a beautiful rectangular stained glass window that runs the length of the building. There are three floors plus a basement that house county offices and courtrooms. The County Clerk, Circuit Court, Public Defender and Prosecutor Offices were among the offices. Offices are simple and functional without adornment. Incredible art deco features adorn the staircases and halls throughout the building. Being in the building was like stepping back in time. I loved it. The building was put on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. There are public restrooms in the basement. Parking is free around the square. The building is ADA accessible and has elevators inside. The square around the courthouse is interesting, too. There are few businesses, but the mix of architecture is beautiful. There are also several memorials surrounding the courthouse building including a Civil War memorial.

The courthouse in Boone County is a typical Midwestern "county seat". The classical revival building, designed by J. T. Hutton, was constructed 1909-1911 of Bedford limestone and granite. The interior of the building still has its original amazing oak trim and most of the original decor. The dome of the building is composed of beautiful art glass. The primary purpose of the building is to house judicial functions and county services. You can pay taxes, vote or check on property information in the courthouse. The square has been updated nicely over the pass couple years. There are a couple restaurants and a few shops on the square. In the warmer months, part of street will host a local farmers market.

'just closed' meant that - TEN FRAKIN' MINUTES AGO IT WAS OPEN !?! - proceeds to recite a long list of expletives. I Called the next morning (today) friendliest nicest person on the phone, with a "Good morning Lake County Court House, how may I help you?" Gave her the details, and wasn't even transferred, put on a 2 minute hold, she picked back up, ticket payment went through, they'll re send confirmation of payment. If I were you, I'd ONLY call in the mornings... it's a trial in patience (and making up new curse words) if you call in the afternoon. 2 stars - 1 for the easy online pay 1 for the morning receptionist

At the top is a galvanized steel and zinc sheet metal-clad, tiered bell and clock tower topped with a copper dome. The tower and dome are topped by a "Lady Justice" statue. The courthouse's exterior has four main sides and four entrances situated between each adjacent pair of sides. Each side includes two towers at each end and a central section with a tall gable. Finding parking isn't hard as spaces are usually available, there are some days where you would have to park on a street or even acouple blocks away in downtown Joliet. Handicap spaces are available upfront in the parking lot. I believe there are 2 auto parking meters and parking starts at $8.00. The parking lot attendant does check vehicles to enforce payment. Cellphones are now allowed on your personal as long as you have it on silent but it doesn't matter because internet signal is to a minimum or you'll have none at all. There are two metal detectors and 1 line, be sure to have zero metal "best to take off your belt" before you walk in the door. Hats are to be taken off, Vapes will be discarded "keep it in your vehicle". There are elevators and now escalators in this new courthouse as well. Bathrooms "small" are available on each floor.

For a courthouse this looks like a concrete fortress. Things that are awful about this place is that parking is an issue! I had to park by the train stop and pay 5 bucks. Cell phones aren't allowed in the building, yet the courthouse in Bridgeview was lenient about it. The fourth floor is where are the felony cases are being handled. This building is old, ugly interior, terrible plumbing, it feels outdated in the court room like you're in a 1950s time capsule. Bail money can be picked up from the second floor. It's got cool artifacts to look at on the exterior of the building facing Jefferson Avenue. Homeless people hang out side the building as well.

People that work in this building are clearly proud of the history and significance to their community. The city of Tipton is the county seat for Tipton County. You can see the bell tower of the courthouse from several miles away driving pass cornfields. The courthouse sits in a small, but immaculate square. The landscaping is lovely and the benches inviting. A Veteran's Memorial stands directly in front of the building. A historical marker indicates that the sandstone building is Romanesque Classical Revival Style and was designed by the same architect that designed the Indiana Statehouse, Adolph Scherrer. The building has served Tipton County since 1894. The basement level is filled with display cases housing Tipton County artifacts. The original clock pendulum is displayed in the basement. The deputy indicated that the pendulum fell through to the second floor years ago and was replaced by a new mechanism. The Victorian era woodwork, floors and most of the furniture is the original to the building. In the courtroom are wrought iron and oak benches that are in amazing condition. The Recorder's Office looks identical to photos taken in the 1880's with massive record books and large desks. Visiting these spaces is like taking a step back in time. In 1988, remodeling took place to update the building and it was necessary to add drop ceilings to cover new ductwork and wiring. This change covered some original artwork on the ceilings. In addition, entryways were modified to improve accessibility. There is plenty of parking around the building. Worth a visit by historians and architecture lovers.
