I dined here today with two friends. The food and service was excellent. Their barbecue sauce is great and served hot if you want more sauce. The desserts were fantastic! I will definitely return.

My family and I went to Carson's in Deerfield on Christmas Eve. We really enjoyed our food and the service was great. We got a corner booth, which I was really pleased about! The crab cakes are definitely a favorite of mine and I loved the Blackened Cedar Plank Salmon. My husband loves the Carson's pork chop and the ribs are always a winner! We look forward to our next visit.

I've been to Carson's in Chicago (long since gone), but never to this location. The large spacious parking lot is always packed whenever I've driven by. It was easy to make reservations for a Friday night -- and I'm glad I did so because the restaurant was very busy. We were seated in the birthday section -- a large group of gals were at a round table and we got a strange booth near one of the windows -- strange because we had to maneuver in one side because the other side was blocked. The restaurant was very busy with loud chatty conversations. We started with cornbread which was an individual loaf that was warm and served with butter. Hard to limit ourselves to just one slice but we had to pace ourselves. I had the Caesar salad with garlic dressing and my companion had the wedge salad. The salads were icy cold as I remembered and the Caesar had delicious croutons. The wedge was an immense monster and my friend liked it but could barely make a dent in it. I ordered the BBQ combo of chicken and pork chop because I fondly remember eating the chops. They suggested getting the chicken brick style which I did, but I didn't try it because I would save it for lunch. The pork chop was a little too well done and tough although the charred outer portion was delicious. My companion had the BBQ ribs and brisket. Carson's ribs are not the fall-off-the-bone style that I like although the brisket was tender. The sides of coleslaw, au gratin potatoes and creamed spinach were delicious. We and also the table next to us were celebrating birthdays. They presented us with our own brownie and ice cream dessert. Tasty. Our service was great. From our quick seating, friendly and efficient wait staff, timely service, was nicely done. The restaurant tacks on an automatic 18 percent gratuity which is a shame. I'll usually tip 20 percent gratuity but I would imagine most people would see the gratuity and leave it at that without any extra. I ordered the pork chop out of nostalgia but on a future visit I think I'd order a fish. The rest of the things I remember have remained quite good. The more things change the more they stay the same. Carson's is just about as good as I remember. Rating: over 4 stars but not quite 5.

Disappointing that the liver pate is no longer served with the thin sliced pumpernickel bread. The rye is much too soft.

    Are there lunch specials?

No there isn't lunch specials that i remember. The food is ala carte and if you want chopped liver there's an extra charge. The ribs were definitely delicious. Enjoy!

We were able to get last minute reservations for 8:30 on a Friday, which was surprising given how extremely busy this place is on the weekends. We arrived on time and were seated quickly without a wait, which was another impressive moment given how packed the restaurant was. Dining here is like dining in the city on the weekends, with a majority of the crowd tending toward older groups of friends or families without children. There was one family of four who brought their child with them, but generally we saw couples and groups of friends. Dress seems standardly smart casual. Food: The menu here is organized into three sections: small plates, mid-size meals, and entree-sized portions. Keep in mind the mid-sized plates can be on the larger side, so the tapas-style menu can be deceiving. We ordered the steak and frites and branzino as our mains, with polenta fries on the side. For apps, we ordered the butternut squash ravioli and were greeted with complimentary cheesy biscuits to start. We finished our meal with the olive oil cake, covered in raspberries. Based on what we ordered, we'd give this place a 4/5, simply because the steak my husband ordered was a tiny bit tough and overcooked (ordered medium rare, received medium well). The cut was a strip or a ribeye, so unfortunately on the tougher side, and less flavorful. My fish was nicely seared but the cannellini beans that were paired with the branzino just didn't do it for me. Branzino is a white fish that tolerates spice and garnishes very well, so it could have benefited from some more complex flavors. That said, we will be back for the ravioli. I'd wager that it is the best thing on the winter menu (this place rotates menu selections somewhat frequently). It was creamy, complex, and soft, with a delicious umami sauce. The olive oil cake we shared for dessert was also very delicious, moist and well-paired with simple cream and berries. Nice and simple but did the trick without being overwhelming or cloyingly sweet. The biscuits are also a nice touch: soft and buttery, not dry, and baked fresh. Overall, I'd say that veggie and pasta dishes are the way to go here, and potentially the fish if it is paired with a more complex side in the future. We look forward to future menus!

So we came here on a random Friday night to test our luck to get a table at 7 o'clock for two people. We got lucky and got to sit inside because that's where we wanted to sit although they do have sidewalk or outdoor seating as well. I thought sitting inside would be cooler, but I was wrong as all the doors and windows were open and I don't believe the AC was on at all. Well, the menu is pretty extensive. I will say that a vegetarian could definitely eat here as well as anyone else. This is our first visit here and as you can tell from the photos ordered quite a bit of food. And typical top of style the portions are pretty small, but they are meant to be shared. It was actually too much food for two people who were already hungry. Some of the standouts were definitely the meatballs and the salad salads. The jamon iberico was absolutely incredible. Not pictured was the picture of sangria we ordered. We got the rosé and to be quite honest with all of the heat. It actually watered down way too quickly. And it also came in a plastic picture, which was a bit of a turn off. The shrimp with garlic was good, but the garlic was hard to taste because it was also covered or doused in a lot of tomato base or tomato sauce. I was really looking forward to a very clear buttery or olive oil sauce that was saturated with garlic. The mushrooms were OK as well, but again too much tomato in this dish that I'm not used to. The potatoes were also very tasty and well seasoned, and the sauce on it was just right. I think this is a good option for people who want top us in the suburbs however, I will say that I hope they do some tweaking to the recipes as well so that they have something that truly makes them stand out and unique.
