They did a great job repairing my car. Only, it took much longer than promised. They told me when to pick up the car, and I got a ride down there, through rush hour traffic on Gateway. I walked in, and they told me the paint job did not turn out right, and they would not have the car for two more days. I took my vehicle in to have some front end damage repaired through my insurance company. About two days later the fellow who did the estimate called and said there was front suspension damage that was not covered by the claim and they would fix it for 1700.00. I asked why not and he said it appeared the vehicle was in a previous collision and the vehicle was not repaired properly. I told him that it was repaired by them nine years earlier! We got into quite an argument and they refused any and all responsibility. Two days after I got the vehicle back, I noticed some dust and pinholes in the paint work on the hood. There were also some rub or spill marks on the paint on the other front fender that had not been damaged in the accident. He claimed they were there when the vehicle came in. I told him that I had completely inspected the vehicle before I took it in and there were no marks on the fender. Needless to say, he disagreed! I talked him in regards to the paintwork on the hood as they reused the old hood after doing some repairs to it. He said the pinholes were caused by rock chips from before the accident and it was not their policy to repair them before repainting the hood!!!! I now have a "pock marked" hood. This business should be avoided at all costs! If I ran my business the way this one is run, I'd be out of business! read more

Okay, for the record, I am a good driver. I am. I swear! But last year I was talking to my kid, backing up my car in the Safeway parking lot, and well....I backed into someone's car. Yup. I did. Eight years of driving, and it finally happened. And I was sad. I, of course, paid to have her bumper repainted, and it cost me $600 at some west end bodyshop. I've never had to do any sort of bodywork to any car, so this price was staggering to me. Especially because it was the tiniest of scratches. My bumper was much more damaged, so I purchased a WagJag voucher for Carstar Express and hoped for the best. And after all was said and done, I couldn't have been happier. I called Carstar right after my accident had happened and asked them what kind of costs I could expect. The guy was EXTREMELY friendly and very nice, and gave me what turned out to be a pretty accurate quote, which never happens! He made me appointment quickly and I went in. They took one look at my car and told me that I wouldn't have to repaint, and that everything would easily be taken care of. They took my car in first thing in the morning and within four hours, it was all done. It ended up costing me $200, (or $150, because I had purchased a '$50 for the value of $100' WagJag). And all in all, my bumper looks flawless, you can't even tell that anything happened. A lot of businesses try to rip your off or are snooty when you come in with a groupon-like voucher, but Carstar really impressed me with their work and customer service. Carstar Express is different than the regular body shops because they specialize in small damage repair, rather than major collision repair, respraying entire cars, etc. I've had body shops fix minor damages before and they always charge a lot of money because they always have to repaint the entire panel that needs to be repaired. At Carstar, their prices are much cheaper because they can repair and repaint without having to repaint the entire panel. The paint on my rear hatch was damaged and peeling in one corner and they repaired it for me in a matter of hours. The finished product is flawless and you could never tell there was ever damage in the first place. The best part was I didn't have to pay huge money to have the entire panel repainted when it was just a little section that needed work. They also do windshield repair and replacement, so I'll be calling to get that done in the near future. They do touch up painting for rock chips, etc, as well as 3M protection. read more

My car was hit in the front and rear. At the time of the accident the police asked me where I wanted the car towed. They offered the inbound lot which was very expensive. I told them I would call my Intact insurance for their views. They offered a few choices. I selected Carstars because of references from my friends. Recently I bought a gorgeous brand new gleaming red Mazda6, and then only months later, as luck would have it, I had an unfortunate run in with an icy snowbank. Nothing major, however the ice lurking within the snowbank was hard enough to leave a noticeable crease in the lower right corner of the front bumper. Needless to say I was not particularly happy. I did some shopping around. Herbers Autobody said they couldn't pop the dent out because the plastic might crack and it would be impossible to make it look right. They were quoting over $1100 to replace the entire bumper (all because of a dent about the size and shape of my thumb!) I refused to believe that was the only option. So after a little shopping around for quotes I happened upon Carstar Express and the tech (Jamey I think was his name) assured me that they absolutely could pop the dent back out, put a little body filler in and then paint match. The paint was the part that worried me. The Soul Red factory paint job was no ordinary colour, it was the brainchild of Mazda's engineers and the color featured heavily in all their advertising, autoshows, and concept cars. Instead of being a flat red, it's so shiny it actuality seems to change shades of red depending on the time of day and the angle at which the light catches it. Because of that I was nervous about anyone's ability to properly match it for all lighting conditions. YouTube videos of bodyshops attempting to paint new bumpers to match Soul Red cars did nothing to ease those concerns. Even on camera I could tell it didn't look quite right. I actually spoke to my Mazda dealership and asked if they thought it would be better to just spend the extra money to order a new bumper. It turns out that the answer is no. The bumper would still need to be paint matched, and if they didn't get it perfect (which is almost impossible with a colour like this) it would stick out like a sore thumb because of the clear dividing line between the plastic bumper and the rest of the car. With the dent repair on the other hand, if done properly, they can blend their paint gradually into the original paint job as they move outward from the site of the dent repair. That way, any tiny difference in the paint is going to be very difficult to spot, and if anything, will just look like the light is catching it a bit differently. But lo and behold, the car came back and looked amazing! I've stared at it from every angle, in bright sunlight, under cloud cover, sunset, dusk, even at night lit only by street lights, and I honestly can't tell anything ever happened. It looks like it did the day I brought it home from the dealership. My only slight complaint is that it still costed over $700. However to put that in context, that was still $200 cheaper than the next best quote I got. And I believe it was (understandably) a little more expensive than the average similar sized dent repair because the Soul Red paint is so difficult to match. All in all, I couldn't be happier. I had a series of annoying events happen that gave my black car some dings and scratches. Since my car is black, they were way more noticeable than they would be on another vehicle. I lived with it for a while and eventually took my car in to Carstar to get everything fixed at once. I dropped it off in the afternoon and it was ready for pickup the very next day. I couldn't explain their technique to you, but all that matters is that I can't see any of the damages anymore. Would definitely take my car here again but hope I don't have to! Carstar gets 5 stars in my books because they did exactly what I needed with no hassle. (Note: I'm a new car owner and haven't had a lot of experience with repairs and whatnot though, so I'll admit I don't have a lot to compare it to) I broke off a side view mirror when I hit a truck (my fault). I'd duct taped that sucker on for a couple of weeks, but needed to get it fixed. Oh, and a day after I broke the passenger mirror I bumped into my driver's side one walking in my own driveway and busted that one off too! Woo. So both of my mirrors were taped on and sometimes I had to sort of hold them up while driving. Not ideal. Okay, so Carstar... I called other auto places and no one could give me any sort of quote over the phone as to how much this would cost to fix. They all required me to make an appointment, and take my car into to 1) look at, 2) then order the parts, 3) then come back to have it fixed. While looking online for DIY solutions, I saw on Yelp that Carstar had good reviews, so I called them. Firstly, I didn't ask about them fixing it, I asked their opinion on gluing on sideview mirrors. I expected them to say that wasn't advisable, and I should have it professionally fixed, but they gave me a real answer about how well it might work, problems I might face, etc. Then they asked if I wanted to know how much it would cost to have it done with new mirrors. Apparently they could just look up the parts over the phone and order them then and there. So they did - it was going to be 60 bucks a mirror + 60 bucks for one hour of installation. This seemed more reasonable than the route I was going down that involved glue and clamps and cracked pieces. They asked me when I wanted to come in, they were able to get me in (within 2 days), had the parts ordered and ready. They installed the mirrors and even cleaned up all the messy tape gunk I had on my car. They were respectful and didn't make me feel dumb about the driving or the questionable tape situation I had going on. If you have something sort of minor buy annoying that needs fixing on your vehicle and don't necessarily need a full on mechanics shop, I'd recommend giving Carstar a call. read more

I ended up at Carstar after an unfortunate encounter with the concrete post next to my parking spot (first day of new job jitters...). I ended up managing to scrape off a good amount of paint right on the edge between two panels, but they gave me a discount off their per-panel price. They were busy, so it took a couple weeks to get in, but the turnaround time after that was quick. My car looks like nothing happened, even 1.5 years later. In March of 2014, I struck a curb just past 53rd Ave on the Whitemud. Seeing another accident on the road, a semi swerved to avoid them, and his trailer jack-knifed, blocking my path. Rather than hit the semi, I opted to drive over the curb. Unfortunately, my bumper, fender liner, and my windshield washer fluid reservoir were broken. The damage wasn't that extreme, so I searched around for some places that could handle my repairs. I spoke with a couple of autobody repair shops, and Carstar Express ended up giving me a quote (over the phone) that was much less than the others. I took my car into Carstar Express, and after a quick perusal, they were able to set me up with an appointment. Their original estimate had been spot-on, and they also explained to me how they were able to offer such good rates because of their high-tech painting system. After the repairs, when I looked at the final result, I was definitely pleased. I could not tell the difference between their paint job and my original paint job. In addition, while Carstar Express does not handle mechanical/electrical issues (i.e. my windshield washer fluid reservoir), they were kind enough to install my new windshield washer flluid reservoir because I had managed to get ahold of a new part! Carstar installed it for me at a minimum charge. The folks at Carstar Express were professional, honest, and quick. I would definitely recommend them. read more

tl;dr - Carstar Express made a scratch & a mistake I made disappear. It looks great! Carstar Express can make scratches or any boner moves you happened to inflict on your car disappear. When I had purchased my 2012 Infiniti G37x, I bought it with a lovely scratch on my wheel arch of the rear quarter panel. So the weather was nice and I decided to touch up the scratch and attempted to level the touch up with 2000 Grit Wet & Dry Sandpaper. Now you're thinking, uh oh you've sanded straight through your paint. No. The paint couldn't adhere to the scratch properly so it just pulled the touch up paint out. So I pulled out the PC 7424XP and removed the wet sand marks but at one particular point I applied to much downward pressure and my DA polisher burned right through the clear on the wheel arch. Boner Move. So the following morning I went to get a quote from a local body shop was quoted rather higher than I thought and the amount of work involved just doesn't seem worth it because they would have had to repaint the entire rear quarter panel. Thats where Carstar Express came into mind, So I drove down the street an right then and there I got a quote to spot repair the area. They were rather busy so they couldn't get me in for about a month but was scheduled for the morning of June 19th. So I dropped my car off that morning and picked it up for 5. I wasn't too sure what I was expecting but Carstar Express exceeded my expectations and made that scratch & clear coat burn disappear. Looking at my wheel arch from afar you can't even tell it's been refinished, the paint match was pretty much dead on and using the sun as my inspection light I barely saw the difference until I sat 1 FT away from the refinished panel. There was a very light dent but a paint chip on the door of passenger side which was very eye-sore. After doing some research, carstar express seems have very good review. So I booked the time and got a quote from them, which was almost $400 for 1/3 of the passenger door panel, sanding, repaint and partial finish. It did not take long to wait (picked up my car the same day). At the first time I took a glance at the paint, it looked nice because they rinsed the car (not wash) when the job was done. The water beads made the paint finish looked rich under the reflection of sunshine. However, after washing my car and drying it completely, the paint on the door looks haze and it seems they only used one stage paint and there is no clear coat on the top. So, when the weather is cloudy, you can definitely see the transition because the repaint panel shows no reflection of the objects near by. The paint and partial finish is not very flat either. No orange peel but not very flat. You can tell it by looking at the door from 30 degree. The good thing you can find in this store is that they do partial repaint and touch up work instead of repainting the whole panel of your car. However, based on my experience, the final result of paint finish is not amazing, just so so (based on $400 job). Just curious, why so many 5 stars in the reviews. Updated: I received response from Aaron the next day. Admittedly, I am a little picky about colors and final finish, which is related to my major. The purpose of writing this review is not going to piss off anybody or doing bad to someone's business. They did a quick and kinda accurate quote free of charge, which was perfect. I picked up my car the same day, which saved me a lot of time. To make it clear and accurate, his employees sanded the door (two palms size), removed the rust (nail size) under the paint chip, repainted, did partial finish and reinstalled the side mirror. The repaint area is less than half of the door, I can tell it because of the slight color difference and hazy surface. If you stand a little far and look at the paint from 90 degree, it is difficult to see the difference. After cleaning the whole car with clay bar and applying Collinite 476, it still looks haze (looking from side angle). My friend who worked at a detailing products store reminded me that the polishing and finishing job is not complete yet or there is no extra clear coat on the top any more, which can cause potential paint damage by UV. They are the experts and should have an idea how the paint looks like when wet. When picking it up, the whole car was wet and so it was not easy to make an assessment on the paint job before I left the store (I left at 5:30). I received discount when paid by cash as that was my first time shopping there. read more

These guys are awesome! Had a dump truck back into me and left not much damage to my front bumper, but enough that it needed to be replaced. Insurance took care of the cost, but Carstar gave me a great price regardless. Because my SUV was there anyway, I asked if they could fix my rear window wiper. They gave me a price that was half of what the dealer offered. They were also able to complete it while I had the rental car for the accident. When i picked up my vehicle I couldn't believe how great it looked. Not only did they do the repair of the accident well, the SUV was spotless! My wife and I are selling our current vehicle. To maximize our sale price, we not only wanted to do the obvious cleaning but do some of the minor cosmetic repairs that, when left unaddressed, really let the car down. I contacted Carstar Express to see what they could do as I heard they could do the same (small damage) work that regular body shops do as well as some of the small jobs that regular body shops don't want to be bothered with. The windshield was cracked all the way across and had some pitting so replacing it was a no brainer. My neighbour had backed into our car a couple of years ago and aside from me having to replace the tail light, there was about a loonie-sized dent in the hatch just above the tail light that needed repair. A different body shop did the repair (TWICE) and the second time they left clear coat over-spray all over the hatch. I took it back to the original body shop (third time) but they said I'd have to paint it again. I got frustrated and just lived with the over-spray. Carstar Express said it was a simple fix; it was. They simply power polished it away! I don't know why that was so difficult for the previous body shop to do. Carstar then went ahead and power polished the rest of the car so the paint is now amazing. I asked about repairs to the various parking lot dings but the owner suggested that people do expect some of these little imperfections on used cars and I probably wouldn't see a return on that investment. It is rare these days to find a business that will give customers honest advice that actually saves the customer money. Carstar could have just fixed the dents and taken my money but they did the right thing. I'm impressed. I had previously tried to polish the cloudy headlights with one of those do it yourself kits (with the polishing pad and paste) and the lights looked better but not great. Carstar Express had a go at it. WOW! They look brand new and really give a good impression for a potential buyer. I couldn't believe the difference from my "improved" polish job to the professional job Carstar did. Lastly, the exterior door handles are body colour and were showing signs of wear in the paint. Three were also peeling along the edges (a 2003 Kia if you're wondering). Carstar Express removed the door handles, painted, reassembled and re-installed them. They now look brand new and the colour match is perfect. I am so happy with how the car looks now and anytime in the future when I sell a car, I'm going to let Carstar do their magic. Hopefully, I won't have any little fender benders but if I do, they'll be my first stop. Overall, I'm impressed by the quality, the speed (one day), and above all, their business ethics. Anyway I looked up Carstar Express on Google and saw the favorable reviews for this kind of work. They were busy but were still the fastest service in town with only a couple week wait. I've been told for dents they can get it in even faster! They had warned me normally for that kind of scratch I had autobody shops charge for repainting both doors over $500 per panel. My wife and I have been customers with Carstar Express (5215 99 St, Aaron and his team) for over two years on four (4) separate occasions with three (3) different vehicles. Carstar has completed for us: paint repair, minor dent repair, and Xpel paint protection. Any dent repair/paint repair that Carstar completed has been flawless. You would never be able to tell where an issue was (even on one vehicle that was 9 years old). The Xpel paint protection installation was great as well. Where Aaron and his team really shine though is in their customer service. We had unexpected complications twice in the last six months, both outside of Carstar's control. Aaron and his team could have simply stated that these were outside issues (unrelated to the work they were responsible for) as many businesses will do these days. INSTEAD, Aaron and his team worked to resolve both incidents to full satisfaction even as windshield issues extended across many months. Throughout a long and frustrating issue (to both sides) the Carstar team was always friendly, polite, and did not stop working until both incidents were resolved to COMPLETE satisfaction. Carstar Express was perfect for the minor bumper damage (dent repair / paint refinish) after I got into a small accident. I had tried going to other autobody repair shops but they either had overpriced quotes or month long waiting lists for appraisals. The pricing is also extremely reasonable as they do spot paint and dent repairs, opposed to removing an entire panel to repair. The service at Carstar was nothing short of amazing. They were quick with the repair and honest with the pricing. The car had a slight dent on the bumper, nothing major but definitely noticeable. Aaron, who did the original estimate, had already charged the minimal service fee for dents/gouge repair. After the car was finished up, he took another chunk off the bill because the damage was so small and they didn't end up having to do too much work on it. During the spring 2014, my 2013 Audi TTRS got a bad scrape (1" long x 1/4" wide) down to the primer by the passenger side door mirror, I tried to fix it myself but ended up making it much worst??? After getting a few quotes from paint shops, most of them ran around $1000.00 plus to fix with no guarantee on the color match and some didn't want to touch it, it became a small nightmare for me because I ended up driving it like this all summer long and that is all I could see every time I looked at the car. When I took it out this spring (2015) after doing more research on the web, I decided to take it to Carstar Express in Edmonton, their quote for the repair was pretty much half the price and color match guaranteed. So I decided to get the door fixed and also decided to get them to fix a small area on my rear bumper. Once I got mycar back, I was amazed with the repair they had done, you simply can't tell it had been painted, the match is perfect, the price was spot on and the guys are totally professional. Oh I forgot I also got them to do some Xpel (like 3M) on my hood, roof, mirrors and behind each wheel, great job again! The online reviews I read prior to going to get my cracked bumper fixed are all true! After going to two reputable auto body shops who estimated that my repair cost or bumper replacement was going to be just shy of $900 either way, Aaron from CarStar Express said they could plastic-weld the crack without having to remove the bumper, saving on labor costs. I paid half the price quoted above and was able to pick up my car on the same day. Kudos also to Jamie for the excellent repair job - the crack miraculously disappeared! Other than the fact that I wished I had never driven to work and backed into a concrete post at the parkade because I was just too exhausted, I felt it was money well spent to fix something that would bother me if I didn't do anything about.
