While the desk staff was indeed very nice, I don't understand the lack of room lighting. The bathroom is dim (good luck with that) and the main room consists of one small lamp on each side of the bed. I've attached an unaltered photo of my room's entry hall where the full length mirror is located on the left. No overhead lights whatsoever. The crack of light on the left is from the bathroom and appears brighter than it actually was in contrast to the dark hallway. Bathroom is tiny with no counter space. Platform bed corners are sharp and don't combine well with tiny space and dim light. I intended to dine and have a drink at Libertine on my final night. It was not crowded yet I sat at a table for at least 10 minutes without any service. I gave up and went to bed hungry because I needed to pack up and wake early for my flight. Bed and bedding are good quality.

    I loved my room!

This is one of my favorite hotel stays ever... no joke! I was immediately enamored in the lobby, as it's occupied by the cutest independent bookstore! The check in process was easy and staff was helpful... they have a bike rental program, which is a great asset in such a huge city! I got up to my room and my jaw dropped. If you're into a stylish bohemian look that puts a priority on comfort, then your jaw will drop too. I chose a room with a balcony... it's an absolute must - you have a great view of the street and increases the beauty and comfort of the room when left open. I would also suggest going for breakfast included... Libertine is a beautiful lounge/bar/breakfast spot, and the spread is super tasty. I was completely surprised to find chia and deliciously ripe fruit amongst the spread. If you need a pick-me-up in the middle of the day, they have a coffee shop onsite. I cannot recommend this place enough - if you're staying in Barcelona, check this place out!

There aren't enough great things to say about Casa Bonay, my home away from home in Barcelona. My husband and I had a hell of a time getting from the airport to the hotel due to a city-wide taxi strike and total shutdown of ridesharing apps and cars-for-hire. I called the front desk from the airport and, while there wasn't really anything they could do, the woman I spoke with was so kind and helpful with explaining my options for public transportation. Once at the hotel, I enjoyed a refreshing shower with high-end bath products (Malin+Goetz yassss!) and a nap in the super comfy bed. Our room was a little tight but not bad; still plenty of room for two large suitcases and a rack for hanging some clothes. Our small balcony overlooking the Gran Via was awesome and the tall windows provided lots of natural light. I also really liked the bathroom layout which had the shower on the left, sink in the middle and toilet behind a separate door on the right. Do check out the rooftop space, even if just for a drink. I love, love, love how they have a separate section just for hotel guests. We popped up one evening to check out the bar, which is open to the public, and it was so packed we decided to head elsewhere. The following day, we returned with friends to the private space on the other side of the roof and ordered some drinks from the bar downstairs. It was such a relaxing break in our day! Having the trendy Libertine bar/lounge and Satan's Coffee all in the same building was so convenient! Satan's was a little slow in terms of service but the coffee was great. Libertine was an excellent retreat from the city for drinks, snacks or small meals; we went there a handful of times during our three night stay. The location of the hotel is within walking distance to lots of great restaurants, bars and shopping, plus some really beautiful sights like the Arc de Triomf. It's also super convenient to several Metro stops. I'd love to book my next Barcelona stay at Casa Bonay!

Accommodating - friendly - beautiful Stayed here while visiting Spain and fell in love with the location. The front staff were very sweet and more than excited to tell us all about local restaurants, beaches, and museums. Attached they have a cafe, rooftop lounge, and a restaurant. The restaurant had great food and good company, I would recommend the hamburger! They have events throughout the month, mainly on Friday and Saturday nights. The rooftop is very relaxed and has lounge chairs for tanning. This hotel is very hipster with elegant decor. The hotel also owns kayaks and paddle boards located only 15 minutes away at the local beach for FREE! It even include lunch. Would love to one day return here *****

Sometimes a hotel is just a place to store your belongings and freshen up while on vacation, and sometimes it can be the reason you fall madly, completely in love with a new city. Casa Bonay was the latter for me, and now I'm absolutely smitten with Barcelona. Casa Bonay is situated away from the crazy, overcrowded Las Ramblas, but perfectly central to everything in Barcelona worth visiting. More impressive than that, though, is that its location is ideal for those that just want to walk outside and see where the Barcelona breeze takes them. Once you step foot outside CB's tropical foyer that doubles as a cute as a button bookstore and gateway to the property's onsite dining, bar, and coffee shops, you can just start walking in any direction, and you'll find something worth happening upon. It's also close to a Metro stop as well. The best part about Casa Bonay is that it is a destination on its own. From Satan's Coffee Corner for a cup of one of the city's most heralded coffees and a decadent pastry or fresh-pressed juice to Libertine for their breakfast spread or nightcap cocktail (or to get some work done or grab a sophisticated bite in between meals) to Elephant, Crocodile, Monkey for a more upscale Southeast Asian meal. The pièce de résistance, and my first introduction to Barcelona after dropping off the stuff in my room and rinsing off, is the beautiful rooftop. I visited a handful of rooftops during my trip, and let's just say...you never forget your first! Guests can casually hang out up there and call down for beverages/food from Libertine to be delivered up or you can officially dine/drink up there as a non-guest at Chiringuito, which feels/looks like any bustling rooftop you might find in summer in Manhattan. The Passage Medium was quite roomy for one person but wasn't at all cramped with two people. The water pressure on the shower was amazing, but even more impressive was the stylist-level hair dryer! The shower/sink area didn't have a door, but the toilet did. The room comes with a yoga mat and two blocks, as well. The bed was very comfortable and the courtyard view was quaint. Fantastic service from every single staff member I encountered and the ease of which to check-in and check-out was something out of a professional hotelier's playbook. I could have spent a significant amount less staying at an apt via any apt hosting site or at a more budget hotel, but I really do think the amenities, location, and vibe of Casa Bonay was worth the extra (extra) Euros. If you're looking for an American comparison, it's as if the hip/cool decor and ambiance of an Ace Hotel had a wild night of passionate love with equally as hip/cool but also comfy as hell NoMad Hotel (part of the Sydell Group).

My stay at Casa Bonay helped turn my trip to Barcelona around. After a mix up with AirBnB we ended up booking a room at Casa Bonay. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the hotel. The building is full of character. Each room is slightly different due to the building being an old apartment building. The rooms were stocked with top quilts toiletries. The lobby was a great place to recharge and get a drink or a coffee. The restaurants had a great selection of food, and there was always a vegan and vegetarian options. The staff was wonderful. Each person we encountered was warm and extremely helpful. I will definitely be staying the next time I come to Barcelona.

Beautiful, well-appointed building, lobby sitting areas, restaurant, etc. Staff were friendly and very accommodating with bag storage, delivering bags to our room before we returned, restaurant recommendations and more. The rooftop is big with pool, bar and a number of seating areas for a 360 view of the city. Relaxing place to sit with a drink. Spa in basement is nice with all amenities. You have to reserve use and it's capped at 30 mins. Rooms are decent size allowing for suitcases and still moving around room. Bathroom is clean and has everything needed including heated towel rack and bidet. Although robes weren't included we found some at spa we used for the remainder of our trip. Lobby is very spacious and comfy, and there is live music in Thur-Sun. Great place to relax with a drink after exploring all day. Breakfast was extensive and a nice start to each day. Included made to order as well as plenty of ready made options for all palettes. The Not as Good We reserved both a superior and classic room but couldn't tell the difference for an additional 130 euros. The front desk said the superior had "more light." Potentially but not sure that was described as difference for what we paid. The rooms lack power outlets. Nothing by bedside. USB by desk but no USB-C or Int'l plugs. We had phones plugged in behind chairs, tea kettle sitting on floor, laptop in bathroom... The subway is underneath the hotel and even though we're on the 4th floor it was loud with lots of vibration. We had Do Not Disturb on for our entire trip but staff entered regardless and made up room. Not a big deal but surprised us and meant we had to put our belongings away every time we left not knowing who would enter when. Overall it was a pleasant stay and we would come back but many hotels we passed by looked like good options as well.

TLDR: Come for the rooftop views of Barcelona, not so much for the stay…read more While Barceló Raval's rooftop offers one of the best panoramic views of Barcelona, the hotel itself is giving knockoff of the W. They try to give off that sexy, mysterious vibe, but as soon as you step into the room, the green ceiling, cheap fixtures and damask wallpaper give it away. The hotel is reasonably "affordable" for its location (near the Gothic Quarter and La Barceloneta), but definitely in a sketchy area. I highly advise walking outside the hotel at night, as you'll find the rough crowds your parents warned you about. The nearest metro station is about a 10-minute walk, and to get there, you have to cut through some of the sketchiest alleys. I booked through Expedia and was upgraded to a room with a view, a bottle of mini wine & an extra bottle of water. My amenities weren't so great from the moment I opened the door. Since my room was pretty high up, the room was stifling & those views were blocked by a stainless steel mesh. FYI: your room requires a key card at all times if you're trying to use electricity, which includes air conditioning. The shower initially felt luxurious--spacious with a giant waterfall head and solid water pressure--followed by lush bath towels, but that impression faded once I noticed the pockets of mold and grime in the corners. Sleeping was also a challenge since walls are thin and anytime the guests next to me entered their room, it sounded like someone was entering mine, which kept me paranoid and on high alert. Rooftop: the rooftop not only offers panoramic views of Barcelona, but also has a bar and pool, though hard to even suggest the pool is an amenity since it's more so for aesthetic than functionality. On the roof, it's not an open floor plan, so you'll have to walk around the building to get a full 360 view. For those who are height deficient such as myself: prepare for obstructed views because of the high railings (great for safety, but not so much for those under 5'3).

Firstly, I highly recommend that you go the Airbnb or Always Easy route to get the full Barcelona experience. W Barcelona...horrible experience from start. We arrived early 2p after a long train ride...front desk informs us check-in at 3p and they're holding firm on that. Okay, fair we'll hang at the Wave Bar Terrace until we're called. 3:30p...we check on our room. Not ready...ooof my hubbie is falling asleep on lobby couch from traveling. 3:45...4p...4:15...4:24 okay your room is ready! Great, we head up to the room. Our luggage isn't to be found. I call concierge - hello, the check-in agent said our luggage would be here?! Concierge: We'll call you back. We cannot locate it. 2 min later - can you identify what your luggage looks like? Me thinking: do I have to do your job? This establishment is a disorganized mess. I describe our luggage details, ask if we need to come down personally and identify, and also mention slyly that our luggage has tags on them with our names- has anyone been savvy enough to try that angle? Luggage is finally found and brought up 15 min later. Meanwhile, our room has a broken bathroom sink (won't drain) and I see that the previous guests left a train of bread crumbs to the floor to ceiling windows that housekeeping failed to vacuum before our arrival. Heebie jeebies city as I am concerned what else might have been overlooked in the guest transition. I call to complain to concierge about experience, request a plumber, and housekeeping to address the sullied floor. Mgmt offers us 100 Euro room Credit to use at one of their restaurants for dinner tonight. I am feeling slightly better. We go to Salt (one of the W's beachfront restaurants). I order their iconic burger. First bite, I get a very hard, dime sized piece of bone/cartilage in my ground beef patty. My mind is screaming noooooooooo! I try to be cool about it and take another bite of my mile high burger. The second bite contains a lesser sized but still prominent (not able to chew) bone/cartilage. I send it back in exchange for a chicken citing my reasons for returning. Restaurant manager comes to our table, makes a sincere apology. 15 min later my hubby has finished his meal and I'm waiting for my 2nd chance. The manager brings out my chipper chicken saying that my meal this evening was on the house. Fast forward 20 min...bill comes I am still charged for my meal, just not for the first one. Ummmm, sorry is that best practice after you already told me it would be covered by restaurant? I inquire about my dinner line item as I pay and the manager explains that I should be okay, yes, because he charged me for the my replacement instead of both meals served to me. I am irritated beyond, beyond at thus juncture. I pay the bill in a defeated attitude (it was house money after all) however I am appalled and disgusted by this entire experience. Bottom line: clearly this hotel banks off of unassuming tourists. If you're going to go for luxury and pay top dollar - you assume the experience is going to be stellar. I am receiving service that aligns with a two star motel 6. Traveller beware: lodge elsewhere...even if you could use Starwood points and could stay for free- save them for another venue. Two nice things I can say are the room views and our charming, attentive, and gregarious waiter Carmen at the Wave Beach Terrace pre-check in.

I booked a signature room through my travel agent, and was delighted that they allowed me to check in a couple of hours early AND upgraded me to a signature balcony room. The hotel is very cute snd colorful, with modern design. The room was clean and pretty spacious, and the balcony was such a nice touch! I liked opening the windows every afternoon and sitting on the chaise and reading. There are refillable water stations on each floor by the elevator, which was a small but big perk to me. Awesome water pressure and temperature, kind, attentive service by staff, and incredible rooftop bar made this a fun place to kick off my stay in Spain. Small gripes: As a short person was the bathroom tub was a bit tall for me to climb into and out of. There was not a true fridge/freezer in the room; the staff was kind enough to store something in their freezer for me but it felt too out of my way to ask them to do it too often for me. The lobby bar drinks were fine but nothing to write home about. Overall though this is such a great hotel and I'd absolutely stay here again. It feels luxe but had very reasonable rates, even right after Easter which is peak tourism. The rooftop bar is very much worth a visit, beautiful views of the city and a fun, lively vibe. I cannot recommend this hotel more!

The room was spacious and modern. We slept well in their comfortable king bed. We were given slippers and a bathrobe along with the typical amenities like hair dryer, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. There was even a bathroom scale! Something I rarely see in hotel rooms these days. Our package deal included breakfast at their daily buffet. And it's one of the better buffets that actually has a made-to-order-eggs table. I love that there's a personal chef for those who like their eggs a certain way. They had many Spanish cured meats, cheeses, fruits, salads, pastries and bread, cold cereals, yogurts, coconut chia seed pudding, churros and chocolate (though it was not like a churros shop), and even congee, blended smoothies and power green drinks as well as fresh squeezed juices. We were impressed to see a few different items changed on a daily basis to keep the buffet fresh and new. I liked it better than the buffet we had in Madrid, despite it having a better hotel rating. The front desk staff was super helpful when we needed a family metro pass for 8 trips verses getting an unnecessary unlimited pass. That saved us money! She directed us to the metro station up the block and had us buy a family T pass. This was only €12. You would scan and let one person go through first while keeping the pass to scan yourself in. You can scan multiple times because it is for a group and not an individual pass. If I visit Barcelona again, I wouldn't hesitate coming back to Le Méridien! It was perfect for all our needs!

Since it's in the narrow alleys of Gothic, arriving at the front door via taxi is difficult, especially if the streets are very crowded. Fortunately, it was also a sunday, so the streets were very empty. It took about 15 minutes for the taxi to arrive, but it was easy to get out of the narrow streets. The hotel itself is nice. Check-in is on the mezzanine level. Our room wasn't ready, but they were able to store our bags. We grabbed lunch at the rooftop restaurant and the food was objectively decent. The main draw of the rooftop restaurant is the incredible view where you can see all of Barcelona and the towering cathedrals. Service was friendly. On a different day, we tried there spritz hour, which seemed to be marketed as two spritzes for €12. However, we each got charged €12 which I think was the price on the menu anyway so I don't know what happened there. The hotel room was cozy. Bed was very comfortable. The layout was a bit odd if you imagine that the room is a U-shape, the bed is the bottom of the U, which makes sense. However the bathroom was split up with the toilet on the right side and the sink and shower on the left side so after you use the bathroom, you would have to walk to the other side of the hotel room to wash your hands. It's not like the room is big, but it's just kind of odd for layout, especially if like luggage is dispersed across the room and you have to walk through all that.
