My wife and I went out for Mexican food tonight. My wife had previously been here and raved about their birria tacos so I ordered some. They were delicious along with the black bean Fresca. I would have preferred my birria tacos a bit spicer but they were crisp and the meat was tender which was better than expected. My wife had the quesabirria and it was also pretty tasty. The atmosphere was pretty laid back and was very welcoming with their decor. Overall, Casa de Tres Reyes food was good. However, my one issue stemmed from the lack of a server. I'm not sure if the server was focused on closing but the bartender ended up coming over to serve us. Steve was great at servicing us, and our food came out promptly which made me happy. I am a little predictable when coming here! Dinner with the daughter's and I think they get the same thing every time, too. It is so good, though. Our waitress was super energetic and friendly. Very nice local feeling restaurant which has a good selection of all your traditional items and some relatively new ones like birrida, which we ended up getting for lunch. Food was good, flavorful, and served fairly quickly, important for lunch time. We also had a couple of margaritas with a better tequila, they have a fairly good selection so I'm sure you'll find something that hits the spot. Went on a busy Saturday night with 6 people. The wait was about 45 minutes but actually turned out to be about 30 minutes. The bar area is small but the bartender was great and we had a drink while we waited. Our waiter was great brought chips and salsa and took our drink orders right away. I would have liked a little more salt in the chips. We did order the Diablo salsa and it is HOT!! It's great to mix with the regular salsa. I ordered 1 chicken el pastor taco and one grilled shrimp taco Al la carte. The shrimp taco was fantastic, loved the citrus flavor and pop of heat. Great place! Worth visiting. I plan on going back. The fact is, it's great Mexican food, but Mexican food is pretty basic non-descript stuff. There's nothing exceptional about it from a cuisine point of view. I sat at the bar, and it was fun. The bartender there was very kind and energetic and willing to help. I let her pic my meal and she chose the quesadilla. Now mind you, the quesadilla was very good. You could tell they usede a quality meat, but it was a quesadilla, nothing exceptional. It was big and served with an au jus for dipping that I didn't find all that conducive to a tortilla, even if it was a beef quesadilla. They have excellent chips and salsa which is served gratis. It was excellent in fact. They're the thin kind with homemade salsa or so it would seem. The margaritas though, were really exceptional! Two of those and I was feeling great. Went on a Friday night with my husband, we were given a 25 minutes wait time so we decided to grab a margarita at the bar and wait at an outside table. We got the rosado margarita which was the best margarita we tried, very well balanced not too sweet. Once we were sat we were given chips and salsa which came out nice and warm. After trying the rosado, kings margarita, and mezcalita I have to say Rosado was the best one, but I would get salt on the glass instead of sugar (personal preference), then the kings margarita would be my second choice. Food was very good, the elote was great and more than I would have expected. I also had 3 tacos: Chicken Al pastor, Baja, and brisket. Chicken was the best one, and then Baja. The brisket was good but it could use a bit more flavor, which could have been my mistake for not adding any salsa or something. Regardless the whole thing was nice and fun. I always have a really good experience here. We came here for lunch and the service was great, prompt and attentive. I decided to get some tacos and went for the blackened shrimp and carne asada. For the carne asada, I decide to get el grande style which is their double shell taco. The actual taco is served on a hard shell and then wrapped with queso and a soft tortilla. I was in the West county area and was in the mood for Mexican and this place was the closest Mexican restaurant nearby, when looking online it says its best to make a reservation and I did just that and got there 30 minutes before my reservation and was able to be seated upon entering. The menu was not a big as I'm used to a a Mexican restaurant so I did kind of struggle on deciding exactly what I wanted to order. I decided on honey hot wings that were delicious and a taco salad that I didn't care for. It had too many blackbeans and the chicken wasn't seasoned enough for my liking. I ordered a queso burrito with birria. My stepdaughter in-law had their birria Ramen and she enjoyed it. I ordered their kings margarita and I also had their Rosado. It was delicious but pricy. $14 for a small cup. They don't have a variety of margarita flavors, just strawberry. Seating included outside, inside, and bar dining, with a brightly lit dining area. I ordered the birria fries, tres reyes nachos with birria, queso burrito with al pastor chicken, and birria quesadilla, with elote. The birria fries and nachos made for a great appetizer, with melty and flavorful queso, and well seasoned and marinated beef birria that fell apart in the mouth, the queso burrito had a mix of flavorful queso, melty cheese, rice, black beans and well seasoned al pastor chicken which made for a good alternative to the usual pork, the birria quesadilla came packed with equally well seasoned and marinated beef birria, melty cheese, verde salsa, guacamole, pico, and cilantro adding complex flavors and texture, the elote was nice, creamy and packed with a nice layer of cotija. The food was well seasoned and balanced, and the variety of options left a lot of choices for any occasion. I highly recommend any of their birria dishes as the beef birria is well seasoned, balanced, and melts in your mouth. read more

We had heard about this place and decided to pop in on a whim on our way back from a basketball game. I can't have gluten so Mexican food is often the easiest and safest option for me. Menu acknowledges gluten sensitivity and indicates that most of their menu items can be made gluten free with minor substitutions - love that. The salsa and hot chips were a bright spot for sure. The elote is a LOT more citrus-forward than any elote you've likely ever had before - that said, I was really intrigued by it and enjoyed it. 2. Black beans with queso fresco were good - nothing too special, needs a touch of seasoning but was not disappointed. I ordered the quesabirria as that is my number one comfort food... the meat was juicy and tender but lacked a bit of flavor. The consomme was good but was also missing a little bit of spice - good flavor - I was looking for just a hint of spice that made it more 'red' (think - the consommé at Tacos la Jefe). Overall, still not disappointed with the dish! We really enjoyed the food and the waitress was very attentive and polite! The only things missing for that final 5th star... 1. The pork belly was dry in the taco which is a little odd considering how fatty a meat that is/should be. 2. The margaritas were nearly undrinkable. Ordered the Tres Reyes and it was so cloyingly sweet I could barely drink it.
