The differences between the two are mostly pretty subtle and basically come down to the Indo-european variety being more flexible in terma of mixing dishes and herbs from different regions. The food is served in buffet form (although à la carte is also optional) as a 'javanese buffet'. That alone wouldn't be possible in Indonesia, where there would at least have been a regional denomination (east javanese, middle javanese, sunda / west-javanese) if not, a local one. Anyway, Bandoeng started as a post-colonial restaurant, survived the passing of a generation that was born in the dutch East Indies and is now finding its way into the future. Great selection of dishes, loads to choose from, high quality, very decent price. Over 40 dishes to choose from, all you can eat for € 28,75.
