We were with my wife's cousin, and she suggested this fish restaurant because she knew I love fish. She lives in Pernambuco and knows all the best restaurants. Always, always, trust the locals when they give you advice on food. This restaurant was tiny, and would qualify as a "hole in the wall". Wish I had taken more pictures, but alas, I was too busy eating.
The tilapia fillets were fried golden crispy and came with skin on the bottom, which you can either eat or remove. I removed mine, but my wife ate it with the skin. The skin was crispy with no batter. The fish was white, tender, and flaky inside the wonderful fried batter. It literally melted in my mouth. The full plate comes with two fillets from either side of the fish, salad, rice, farofa (like flavored corn meal you put on rice and beans), and piroa de peixe (fish soup) all for about $8 dollars. The fillets are huge, much bigger than my hand, which is larger than most human's. The piroa de peixe was magnificent with a smooth texture and explosive flavor! We enjoyed the tilapia so much, we ordered 2 full and 1 half plate (1 fillet for $5). So we ate a total of 5 giant fillets all for around $21 American dollars. That is some value.
The service was fast and they brought us more plates within minutes of ordering them. Everyone left this restuarant with a smile and engorged.
If you like eating fish, than visit here before you die. It will be one to remember.
