There was a small up charge which we expected. When we attempted to pay with a credit card, they indicated the charge was declined by our bank. Unfortunately, our bank had no knowledge of this charge. It appears the charge was declined by the store's processor. In discussion with the sales person, she then tells me the store does not accept non national credit cards. Fast fast forward 2 weeks later, we visit their location in Casa de Barro. I ask the the sales clerk if they accept non national credit cards. She tells me they do. I explain the previous situation and her reply is the issue is probably with the terminal they are using at that location and there should be no issue at the Casa de Barro location. Fantastic. So we go thru the process for the modifications again, the sales person relays this information again to her superiors, and she informs us: "unfortunately we are so busy and we will never be able to accommodate your request for modifications." Encontramos unas banquetas maravillosas en el local de Reforma. La persona de ventas fue genial. Escuchó las modificaciones que queríamos y confirmó que era posible con el diseñador. Hubo un pequeño recargo que esperábamos. Cuando intentamos pagar con tarjeta de crédito, nos indicaron que el cargo había sido rechazado por nuestro banco. Por desgracia, nuestro banco no tenía conocimiento de este cargo. Parece que el cargo fue rechazado por el procesador de la tienda. Hablando con la dependienta, me dice que la tienda no acepta tarjetas de crédito que no son nacionales. Dos semanas más tarde, visitamos su tienda en Casa de Barro. For starters, we ordered two traditional soups: sopa de flor de calabaza (squash blossom soup) and sopa de nopal (cactus soup) -- both earthy, comforting, and authentically Oaxacan. We then tried three moles: mole negro (my personal favorite), segueza, a pre-Hispanic corn-based mole, and the special of the day, mole zapoteco. We finished with three desserts: tejocotes en dulce (sweetened Mexican hawthorn fruit, which I found a bit bland), flan Tlamanalli, and nieve de níspero (loquat sorbet -- delicious, and another personal favorite). To end the meal, they surprised us with chocolate de metate on the house. The service was warm and attentive, with multiple thoughtful extras -- a welcome touch you don't often find. There is clear attention to detail throughout, from the beautiful plates to the presentation of each dish. It truly feels like a home-cooked meal -- because it is. This is not a restaurant mass-producing dishes. It is run by Abigail Mendoza and her family, and each dish is cooked only after you place your order, which adds to the sense of care and intention behind every plate.
