My husband and I took a tour of Casa Pedregal when we were in Mexico City a few weeks ago, and it was one of the highlights of our visit to CDMX. The house was designed by Luis Barragán, one of the most famous modern Mexican architects. The house is unique for several reasons, including its distinctive design (it's quite distinct from other Barragán homes) and its location and construction on the lava ground of the Pedregal neighborhood. The home is absolutely beautiful - a blend of classic Barragán, hacienda-inspired design and decor, and incredible use of the volcanic rocks (inside and outside the home).
Casa Pedregal is privately owned and occupied, but you can tour it. You meet the tours at the restaurant next to the house, Tetetlán (which is actually located in the former horse stable of Casa Pedregal). You cannot visit the home except via guided tour.
We signed up for an airbnb experience that included a tour of the home followed by a mezcal tasting and tasting menu at Tetetlán, but the other couple on our tour (there were only four of us on the tour) just toured the home.
Casa Pedregal is truly beautiful. I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked out on the grounds and lava rocks through that amazing wall of windows of the house. If you're interested in Barragán or Mexican architecture, I highly recommend a tour of Casa Pedregal. read more
