We stopped by unexpectedly after our hiking plans were rained out, and were very glad we did! We got discounted tickets with our Swiss travel pass and decided to check out the main museum. We spent most of our time in the energy, train, and car sections of the museum. For a weekday afternoon near closing time, it was not crowded at all so we were able to see everything we wanted. Some of the highlights are the various railroad cars - it was so interesting to see how the appearances differed across centuries! The huge model trainset would be a lot of fun for kids. We were also struck by the wide selection of cars across centuries, and the machinery that brings them up and down so you can see them more closely. The simulation experiences are really cool for all ages, we learned a lot about the different forces at play during the crash test. The museum of mirrors was also a hit - it was so much fun trying to figure out what is mirror and what is not. All in all a great experience, I only wish we could have spent longer there before it closed to check out more of the ships and aviation sections of the museum. It is a delight for all ages and very educational.

You can enjoy your art in peace and they even have an audio guide included in the price of your admission that the friendly receptionists will offer you after you've paid your ticket.

No bags allowed inside, but they provide free lockers, so lock your valuables and leave your stroller outside. There are a mix of old European arts and modern arts, a small drawing station for the kids you can post on the wall afterwards. There was a room with a single, double, and triple swing! The little kid in me had so much fun playing on the swing. Most importantly, this is one of the few places in Switzerland that actually has AC!!! So if the heat wave hits, and you need to cool off, come here! Took one star from them because there was a military related tent displaying old documentary, except the display has fresh red paint that's not dry. While I really didn't read the wet paint sign, I don't think you should put it on display until it's dry. It was a piece of cloth that can be moved after it's dried...

The Gletschergarten is a unique natural monument and museum located directly next to the Lion Monument in Lucerne. Discovered by accident in 1872 during cellar excavations, it features spectacular pothole formations created during the last Ice Age around 20,000 years ago by glacial meltwater. Aside from the impressive geological rock formations, the site features a popular historic mirror maze called "Alhambra," which was built in 1896. A recent major expansion, the Felsenweg (Rock Path), takes visitors deep into the subterranean sandstone mountain through a dramatic, multimedia-lit cavern system. Over the past 40 years it changed a lot. Displays changed, more multi-media and also more of a sensory experience. It's great to see the museum keeping up with the times and to constantly update the exhibits. The new Felsenweg is an impressive experience. You will walk up to the very top (to the tower) through a cave system with many infos and displays. A very unique experience and a fantastic addition to the museum. The views from the top are fantastic. Make sure to get to the top of the viewing tower as well. Up here there's also space for a nice picnic. The Spiegelsaal is another highlight (the mirror maze). It used to be located in the house, but was relocated. It also used to be a lot bigger, but due to all other renovations and extensions it was made smaller - I enjoyed the older, bigger one though. And of course there are the geological rock formations. The biggest one roughly 9 meters deep. Very impressive and tells a great story of time through the different ages of the area. Together with the Verkehrshaus, this museum here is definitely a must-do. Staff was really fantastic and helpful as well. Surely we'll be back.

With an audio tour available in multiple languages, you can learn about geology, visit the museum for some history, watch a film at the Sandstone Pavilion, stumble through a disorienting/interesting mirror labyrinth, and walk through some neat (shaded) exhibits and an overlook of Mt Pilatus. Very informative!
