This was my 4th visit since i always bring my visitors here whenever we go to Lagos. Each year the theme of the sand sculptures are supposed to be different but the past two have been the same. Overall, it is a sight to see and not to be missed if you are in the area. Free parking in the lot across from it. Food is available for purchase, as well as a fish pedispa, and a small sand play area for the littles. Kids 5 and under are free of charge.

How the hell did they do that?" or "Gosh, that one there reminds me of that bit in that "Mummy Returns" movie!"....either way, you will have been impressed. Well, Sod that!! Book a flight to South Portugal and go to the Fiesa Sandskulpturenfestival (why is that all one word?). They have a whole village of them, and it is really, seriously impressive! First of all, the theme of the sculptures changes year on year, and when I went there, the theme was "Music", so we spend hours walking around the village looking at sand-drumkits, sand-guitars, sand-pianos, sand-composers, sand-singers.......even sand-Liza Minnelli doing Cabaret! I also really appreciated the music selection they had on. They had several dozens of speakers around the village piping out a pleasant mix of instrumental chillout in surround sound so you hear different instruments from different speakers with very cool echo reverb......a really nice touch! If you stay in the Algarve, this place is an absolute must. Some advice; It was about 21 degrees when we went, but it is important that if you go there during the summer, take sunblock, at least 2litres of water 'cus the bus will drop you off for 2 hours and the drinks are expensive at their bar.

Susanna, the owner and tour guide, was a blast! (And full of information). The organic winery featured not only four types of grapes but pomegranate, apricot, olive, almond, and quince trees. Susanna also has rooms available for rent and welcomes WWOOF-ers. I enjoyed learning about the process firsthand from Susanna- from vine to aging to bottling. I walked away with a newfound appreciation for organic wines and the extra effort it takes to protect the vines without chemicals. (Our favorite example was how she uses favs bean plants and gypsies to control the snail invasions).

We enjoyed the Suite for four nights, and had both a breakfast and wine tasting while we stayed there. The breakfast was a delight the first morning, as we had traveled quite a bit the day before. With the suite we were able to bring in food, and make our own meals for the rest of trip after a little shopping. The accommodations were excellent. The wine tasting was with a large group on Wednesday but was very interesting. Guillaume gave us a tour of the farm, and we had the wine tasting in the area where the wine is made! His choice of cheese and wine was excellent. The farm is all organic and is quite amazing, but after a long hard day of hiking and travel around the Algrave it is delightful to come back to the quite farm and enjoy a glass of wine on your own patio overlooking the fields. We often took a walk around the farm in the evening and it was a very peaceful area with interesting fields nearby. It was truly a highlight of our trip, and we will definitely go back the next time we visit the Algrave area of Portugal. It is so nice to be out of the hectic city and relax.

If you are interested in me if their older wines, don't be afraid to buy a bottle and they will open for you to taste. We ended up buying 4 additional bottles of the full bodied Red that wasn't on the tasting menu. It was definitely worth the investment in the first bottle.

However, Andrea (the owners daughter) was nice enough to come in from the back where she was working, and gave us tasting. You have the typical rose, white and red, all ABOVE anything we expected for quality. Now hold on to your chair, the price is 5 Euros fro bottle of Rose, 7 Eutros fro while and think 8.50 Euros for red! I would recommend making a reservation if possible. Great place for hosting an event (wedding or party). Family owned and great hospitality The rose was unique to Portugal and lovely. Wines are young, and with age will be fabulous. They are a boutique size production, so nothing stays on the shelves long enough to age. This is a must to experience while on the Algarve region of Portugal.
