The we set out to stroll the area around the parliament. Many of the stores are big name international locations, such as you might find in any big city. But an odd left turn down a smaller street lead us to Sartoria Al Corso, a family business, very old school, a little bit frumpy looking. But they had linen shirts and my husband loves his linen dress shirts so we stepped in. We were greeted by a young gentleman, who was the son of the proprietor. What ensued was a lovely visit while we shopped. The selection was not enormous, nor did they carry trendy fashions. This is a place that understands a suit is an investment and as such should not be hemmed up or down match the latest Banana Republic trends. They specialize in semi bespoke. That means they have basic unfinished jackets partially tailored and after fitting you they finish the coat in a matter of a day or so. The selection of fabrics is impressive. I was especially taken with a summer weight worsted so light as to be bearable for a man who loathes the heat. I will be taking the spouse to Rome in June and we will be stopping in on our first day to order a suit. This is not an inexpensive endeavor, but the prices, when compared to other shops selling similar quality goods is very reasonable. Go order a suit from Brooks and compare the price. You will be happy to pay the Al Corso bill.
