Played a 12 fret Iris drednaught that was unusual. The staff has always been really friendly and let me play whatever I wanted. You can rent guitars during the bluegrass fest if you don't want to bring your own but they are going to be built like tanks and not the greatest but price was super reasonable. Looks like they get a good share of cool vintage stuff - I got to play a fun '47 000-18 that had a ton of character. Always enjoy stopping in here especially when you catch them during a slow period in town and can check everything out.

You can strum a stringed instrument with your thumb... but you will not get the tone desired!! I asked the gentleman if I could use a pick on the instrument, he said no! I told him it was not the correct way to play the instrument , without a pick ! He quickly replied "I do it all the time!" What a smart ass! I understand his side of the coin!! As a store owner, he doesn't want a bunch of kids and yahoos coming in and scratching up instruments! I understand 100%! But, I really was interested in the mandolin and wanted to buy it!! Since he would not let me use a pick and correctly try out the mandolin.. I had to walk away! That was $1000 sale he missed out on! I would not recommend anyone going here unless they're interested in a cheap guitar and dealing with a smart ass! I still do not know what the tone of the mandolin truly sounded like!!
