There's always something rewarding about skipping the big brand supermarkets and buying fresh produce from the local grocer. Aside from feeling as though you've done a good deed, the produce from Castlemaine Fresh always tastes and looks better. The difference in price from the big supermarket in town really isn't that much and is well worth paying. Not only do they stock delicious fresh fruit and veg, they also have a range of other food products from local producers including dips, juices, cereals, yoghurts etc. It feels and tastes good to buy from the local little guy. read more

The best greengrocer for miles: and good dips, groceries, etc. Unwaxed fruit from local orchards. This place is seriously good - and its popularity is at a testament to that. read more

This supermarket could get away with doing a lot less than it does. It sells a range of…read moreinternational and gourmet products that it could easily get away with not stocking. How many people know what Irn-Bru is, let alone demands it? (it's a Scottish soft drink, which they say is "made from girders") They have an excellent selection of local products, that are unavailable in Melbourne. The arcade the supermarket is in, well, it's a bit sad, with two bottleshops, a butcher and a giftshop, but Maxi makes up for it. There's underground parking, but we've never needed it, as there's a good amount of off-street parking.
