Cool little place tucked away from the hustle and bustle that is Tucson traffic. I stumbled upon this Catalina Brewing Company looking for something fun to do with our kids. Wondering why a brewery with kids? Well, half of this place is a giant game room filled with old and new pinball machines, a pool table, a couple video games, foosball, a boxing game and shuffleboard. I met Jim, the awesome bartender on duty, who told me some really net stuff about the place and gave me a limited tour of the brewing room. I tried the CDO Blonde beer, which is fitting for this blonde CDO grad. I thought it was really good. Jim explained that they don't add sugar to their brewing process, and instead their natural flavor options serve as the sugars in brewing. Things like fruits, flowers and nuts take the place of added sugar. The pinball machines are very fun, but I have to say the boxing machine was the highlight for the teenage boys in our group. Seeing who hit hardest was all the rage. Catalina Brewing Company takes their beer on the run, or should I say mountain biking trails, to serve to people at events, which sounds fun. There some neat history in this place. I hear they have trivia nights as well. They are family friendly, serving sodas as well. They make cocktails with wine converted to various types of "liquor ". Overall I thought this was a great place I'd go back to in a heartbeat. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, and parking. It was clean and best of all, cool in the summertime. We stopped in here for a quick refreshment on the way into town. It was DJ bingo night, which we did not participate in but it looked super fun. There was a huge local crowd there, but plenty of room and welcoming to us. They occasionally have food trucks, it is just difficult to discern what hours they are there and how to order food from them. There are a lot of taps but the most disappointing thing was that this brewery only offered one of their own beers. Everything else was from other breweries. A lot of good local ones, but when we go to a brewery we definitely want that brewery's creations. That is the main reason for the rating. Otherwise we really enjoyed this place and would come back when they have more of their own beer to offer. read more

Attended Trivia Friday here for the first time. Small local business. Great home brew selection. Definitely the vibe of a locals Spot. There's pinball machines, shuffle board and various games for entertainment and they have local music at least once a week. The serve yourself cooler is a great option if the brewery menu isn't your style. The food truck menu hits the spot. The guacamole was one of the best I've had in the area so far! Said hi to the bartender and didn't get a response just stood there silent waiting for our order. Said it was our first time and just stared at us with an annoyed look. We ordered he dropped the beers and we handed card and he just walked away and didn't say anything and kept card and went to the next person. No communication at all. This is going to be a mixed review. I wanted to find something to do and I found that a business called Tipsy Picasso was holding a art and drink at this place. The place inside is lacking in the wow factor. It's more of a neighborhood feel and kind of rough. My beer review is that of a rookie so take what I write as that. The beer on tap tonight was not good. When I can overly taste hops or an over abundance of alcohol it's not good to me. All the beers I sampled were to strong in those flavors so I didn't like not one. I sampled their seltzers and wine and again they all had a high taste of alcohol or were watery. The bartender service was really nice and was complimentary on your request to sample their product. They do not serve mixed drinks here it's straight brewery beer, seltzers, and wine. I enjoyed the painting and atmosphere. It was laid back and chill. I say if you want to take some friends and sample their products and not worry about a high dollar atmosphere this is the place. It's like a alI I want to do is drink some beers and have laughs with buds and go home after and chill place. So you be the judge on beers on tap and stop in and try. read more

I really enjoy visiting this brewery that has grown significantly over the last few years. My favorite day is taco Tuesday where you can get 3 tacos and a glass of beer for $8 - what a deal! The tacos are catered in and usually they have 2 styles of meat and one vegetarian. They don't have a lot of taps compared to others but they have a good selection of beers. The new game room is a lot of.fun and I would rate this as a great first date spot. The brewers were super nice and gave me a tour of their facility. I enjoy craft beer and Tuscon has a lot of good breweries. This one is one of the better ones, with a bicycle theme. If you come in wearing cycling clothes, are a teacher or a military veteran, you also get an additional discount. Last Friday was my second time at this place. My first time here was in March during my spring break. I liked the atmosphere and the beers so much, I wanted to come back here with my craft beer drinking friend. It's a long drive from my place in Hereford, AZ, but so worth it. The owner now has built a patio out in front, and Mariah, the bar tender, told me bands will start playing here. Mariah also runs her food truck, The Jersey Grill. Opening hours are now at 2pm during the week. The place isn't big but I like the decor. There are a few couches and sofas, always an indicator that people are welcome to hang out for a while. I like the wheat beers this place makes. The Monkey Brew Hefe is one of my favorites, but I also like the Milk Stout, Pecan Doppelbock, Pink Monsoon IPA. My friend and I shared a flight and his favorite was the Pecan Doppelbock. The place isn't easy to find, tucked away in an industrial park, but my GPS app got me right to this place. I'd come here more often to try their rotating inventory of beers, if this place weren't a 90-minute drive for me. read more

We decided to check out Catalina Brewing after happening upon their really great Groupon, which included a beer flight and a "Crowler" (Basically a large, 32oz can) for only $10. We were greeted promptly upon entering and were helped immediately by the friendly staff. The decor is cycling-themed and lends a nice charm to the place. Very hip and well done. In the flight, we tried the 0200 Pale, La Rosa Cream, Monkey Brew, E-Beer, and a Christmas seasonal. I found the beers to all have very slim heads and piney, cirtusy, and malty flavors danced about most of the ones on my list. None were bad, but none really stood out to me either. When the time came to order my crowler, I went with the 0200 as it was the best for me. I liked the aromatic crispness of it. I wasn't much of a fan of the Christmas brew personally. They do have a limited selection of food including soft pretzels and chips. They also had pizza (appeared to be Dominos) and Tamales but I'm not sure if they do that regularly or if it was just for New Years Eve when we went. Overall, it is a nice brewery with some great beer-loving staffers. While I personally didn't find a beer that I loved, it's a cool place to hang out, play some games and enjoy a beer or two for a cheap price. I bought my parents a Groupon here a few months ago (2 beers, 2 flights for $18.50) and they liked it enough to come back a second time and bring me. I walked in to find a no-frills, family-friendly locale that celebrates bike culture and life in Arizona. Again, we ordered two flights and two beers. The bartenders seemed a bit flustered while they chatted with other customers and cleaned glasses, so it took a while to get our drink order in. Since my younger brother and his friend aren't of age, we ordered them a nitro cold brew and root beer. We also ordered a couple of baskets and chips and guac. The drinks were brought over to our table. I'll be honest, overall the beers didn't blow me away, and I tried a pretty big assortment. Some were better than others, but a few too many were watery or had an unfavorable aftertaste. My favorite was the Cherry Tank Stout (a dark beer with a tangy cherry kick). Regardless, I still give this place four stars because I appreciate the local feel, their generous Groupon offer, their food partnerships, and a fun assortment of boardgames/fooseball. In preparation for our trip to Tucson, we checked out Groupon to see what types of Brewery deals they had; Catalina was one! With an offer of 2 flights and 2 pints, how can one resist? Catalina Brewing is in an industrial-off-the-beaten-path-area, in a business strip. It's a little harder to find, but follow the signs!! When you walk in, the place obviously loves two things: Bikes and Beer. As our groupon allowed 2 flights (5 beers each, mind you), we tried all 10 beers on tap. Out of the ten, I found only 4 I could see myself drinking as a pint. I'm always excited to try a Prickly Pear beer, but their La Rosa just wasn't super impressive to me, which always makes me sad! However, this was one of the 4 beers that I would get a pint of, if necessary. I liked the Cherry Tanked (Chocolate and Cherries) more than I thought I would, and their Lemmon Drop From the Top Saison was tasty. I realized only too late that they have a shuffle board in the far right corner when you come in. Had I seen this earlier, I would have been there the entire time. They have a large selection of games to play, and some really awesome beer-swag to buy for take home. We got a pint glass to add to my collection - and I absolutely love the saying they put on the back of the glasses: "If found empty, please refill and hand to: __________" Definitely a place I'd stop in again on a future beer tour of Tucson. New Belgian's little, less talented brother that lives in Tucson is the best way to describe this place. First and foremost, I want to say it's cool they make gluten reduced beer. I also realize this is a challenging pursuit to make these beers taste good. I arrived on a Tuesday with a group of friends and they do a Taco Tuesday event. For $9 you get beef or chicken tacos and a beer or something very close to that. The tacos are a good value, but not a culinary wonder by any means. I drank a fair amount of their beer offerings, meaning I tried more than half the menu. It's cool they do different types of things like Chipoltipin Porter or Prickly wheat, but the beers were just OK. They brew on a three barrel rig as best as I could tell and run hose everywhere, read not much piping was seen. They staff was OK, but served folks who arrived after I stood at the bar for a bit, but eh whatever. They love bikes and it's very apparent, but to describe this place as in the first line would be accurate. I had one of the most unique beers I have had in awhile, Their E-beer.which stood for electrolyte beer. It was perfect after the 7 mile bike ride in. Light but full bodied fruit hints and electrolytes, like Gatorade for grownups, who wont be driving. Another cool note is the bike access. Off the loop there is a new chain link "gate" you can use to exit the loop and cross the wash. I just wish the wash had some form of pavement to making crossing easier. Catalina Brewing Company is a great small Microbrewery on the Northwest side of Tucson. It's tucked away in business park off Ina Road. They have signs up to direct you there so it's not that hard to find. Has a nice laid back atmosphere and was very clean. The beer is good. I like their 0200 IPA and their Mesquite Agave Amber Ale. The Co-owner was serving on Sunday and was very friendly and was eager to tell you about the beers and let you take samples. They offer beer flights as well to sample more of their beers. They advertise that they offer a 10% discount to Military and Teachers (current or former) as well as unadvertised discounts to Public Safety employees. They offer Growler and Cowler fills of their beers. I really liked it there and will definitely be back. read more
