O M G!!! We had THE BEST time ever! We were a little hesitant booking the bison tour at first due to wanting to do other things on the island but boy, are we glad we did! Firstly, our tour guide, Andrew was INCREDIBLE! He was so funny and knowledgeable and frankly, made the tour amazing. From start to finish, we had the best time. Keep in mind, you may not see any bison (we saw 2 far away), however, that won't matter to you once you're on the tour (I promise). We also saw some foxes, squirrels and other wildlife. Amazing tour. Our guide Delilah was so knowledgeable about the island history and showed buildings, landmarks, airport etc. and found us bison! Just a fantastic informative ride with a super cool guide. We got to see a herd from far away and a super close single bison at the childrens play park of all places! We went on the 4 hour Cape Canyon Expedition..it was AWESOME!! The island is such a beautiful place and I cannot think of a better way to see it. Our tour guide Bear was very knowledgeable, he made the tour very fun. This was definitely my favorite part of our trip to Catalina. We went last week for my hubby's birthday and bear even got our whole group to sing him happy birthday. Bear was the best! I recommend going on this tour with him you won't regret it. Mr.Q and I took the Inland expedition on the very last day. The trip was quick and almost nonstop. The bus only stops at a empty fox rescue home to let customs to use the toilet. One amazing beach view. And then it stops again at the airport to the sky to have another pee and get some lunch at this souvenir shop with some dreadful, lifeless cashier who delivers super slow service. The route is good with some magnificent landscape. However, the driver stops the bus for about 5-10 seconds and hits the road again. The bus makes you feel sleepy after awhile, with this nice bumbling massage kinda feeling. It wasn't an amazing bus trip, but it was an easy trip. Next time, we will try the cape canyon expedition. It sounds more adventurous for us. read more

At first I was unsure about taking this tour... i thought it was kind of pricey for just riding around the island... i was WRONG! Every penny worth it! What made this tour so much more fun was our awesome guide, Charles! He was very knowledgeable about so many things about catalina and made the tour that much more interesting. He was also very sweet and answered everyone's questions, and would even stop and take your picture for you at great scenic spots. We got to see some buffalo and a fox, unique to the island. We had no plans when we got off the ferry so we grabbed a brochure from Santa Catalina Island Company. There were three tours we were interested in & found out they had just added a second tour for the Cape Canyon Expedition! What a great choice that was! We got to ride in an open H1 Hummer which made this trip even better. We went places the tour bus couldn't! Our guide DC was fabulous! From his corny jokes to his impressive knowledge of the animals & plants on the island. It was a pleasure to explore interior with him! At one point we were passing the pens of the buffalo and there was a male just hanging out - DC turned around and got into the pen next to him. What a great experience! We took their underwater fish watching tour. It was quite OK and way cheaper than booking it on the cruise. The tour guide was just OK. The boats were relatively clean. If you plan to go by Carnival Cruise, then it might be better to disembark the ship, and book the tour at the pier. It will save you some money read more

This tour company is great! The boyfriend and I did the submarine fish tour. The tour was about 45 minutes long and not too boring or overdone. It actually held my interest for the whole 45 minutes. I believe the reason for that was the tour guide was so informative and interesting that he held my attention the whole time! We saw serveral schools of fish, which was awesome. The fish were trained well and friendly and would come right up to the glass of the submarine. The tour guide said they feed the fish at the same spots every day, so they have become trained to hang out there and get fed -- what a chill life! I found it interesting that some of the fish could live up to 35 years old, which is a lot longer than I imagined. Ovearll, it was great seeing the fish in their natural habitat. I learned there was a zipline operation on the island, within walking distance from my hotel above Descanso Beach. I signed on ($115) and received an excellent briefing from guides Matt and Kris. On each of 5 platforms, Matt would launch himself first so he could "catch" incoming zip-liners and Kris remained to send each member of our group off. Instructions and visual signals were simple and easily complied with as we left one platform and approached the other. Radio communication was maintained by guides between towers. It was great fun, and our guides provided us with information about the island's history and environment as we moved along. On the last line, there is a digital camera, triggered by motion sensor, that can provide a photo (at small additional cost) of the individual zip-liner as a souvenir. I have but one other zip-lining experience with which to compare this, but I had a great time and heartily recommend this to anyone with a sense of curiosity! read more

book your tours on the island or website-NOT ON YOUR BOAT-they take a cut and its more expensive- I have never been disappointed by the tours these people have- I took the Avalon Casino tour this time and got free admission to the museum that showed Pattie Boyd's photos of the Beatles and Eric Clapton! Great! The tour was one hour and $20 and free museum tour and a movie in the theatre. It was incredible to see the building and the guide was so good-he knew the island, history too boot! Try to take an hr before riding. - Yes, there are bathrooms on the boat - There are seats inside and outside of the boat for those who bought general seating tickets - If you go in 2014 on your birthday, you get a FREE round trip boat ride on your birthday! (Has to be the actual day) They also give you a ribbon and booklet of birthday discounts on a bunch of things you can do on the island. Including parasailing! - The cafe on the boat is cash only! read more

Did the Inland Expedition and wanted to like it but didn't. They didn't do anything wrong but the tour itself just isn't that interesting. Firstly, a 50's bus sounds really cool online until you get in it and realize that means there is no AC and it was freakin hot that day. If you are not crazy about heights this is not the tour for you since the bus basically hangs off cliffs with nasty drop offs as it makes its way up the mountain. Half the people on my 2pm tour fell asleep as the bus rocked. Bus basically takes you to the airport. We were so hot we bought soda's, watched a fox try to steal food and saw a buffalo. That was nice but not worth $50 a ticket. If you are local to LA or San Diego county and have done hiking at all you have already seen this terrain before. Its nice but you probably drove by a similar landscape on your way to the boat to come over. Basically the need to put in AC and drop the price but otherwise not sure how this one could be fixed. read more

Hope this is the right place to write about the Skyline Tour. It was excellent! They drive you around in these 1950s (I believe) buses. Our guide/driver was Steve. He was very knowledgeable and humorous. I really have to give him credit for driving that bus so smoothly (many of us drifted off at times). He even took us part ways down a road off of the tour to see some buffalo that were right by the wooden fence. Plus provided us many opportunities to take pics and information about the airport in the sky. Also, thanks to him, we knew about the Killer Cookies. And they were. So. The experience was surreal and memorable. We enjoyed Steve and look forwarded to taking other driven tours on the next visit to the island. Go do it! read more

My girlfriends and I took the Skyline Drive 2 hr. tour and it was nice and OK. Not sure if it was worth $34, but they have to make a living,right? The tour guide was on the intercom telling us the ground rules, when some lady behind me 'shushed' me when I made one comment to my friend about a cute dog outside, and we hadn't even LEFT the parking lot yet! What was more irritating was that she had a running commentary with her W.T. husband for 90% of the tour. The tour 'bus' was comfortable and the guide was funny and witty, cracking jokes while giving us a history lesson about Catalina Island. We saw ONE bison, and my running theory is that he's really someone's pet and they brought him out to stand in a field JUST so the tourists have a wild animal to look at. BUT, I could be wrong. Our pit stop was at the Catalina Airport, which consists of an old warehouse and a 'runway' if you can call it that, but not like we could see anything because of the vast amount of fog. Island weather - unpredictable. Overall - I give it 3 stars, mostly for the view. read more

Cape Canyon Expedition with Bear - he was really funny, kind and informative! We toured around a large part of the island in a Hummer - we had some cool weather, but there were blankets on the vehicle to keep us warm and bottled water too. Bear drove us to some beautiful and scenic spots on the island, as well as to the the Airport in the Sky - we stopped there for about 45 minutes. There were several times we stopped along our tour and were able to stretch our legs - one of which was the eagle habitat. Beautiful! We also saw wild buffalo along our route several times, drove by the Rusack(?) winery, saw a wild fox or two and numberous amazing vistas! The tour started at 9:30 and lasted four hours and 15 minutes - definitely worth it if you have the time! We really enjoyed our tour and highly recommend this one! read more

My husband and I took the Ridgeline Tour with an amazing, funny and knowledgeable guide, HALVY! It was a picture-perfect clear day with stunning views everywhere we went. And we also saw a buffalo which was an exciting bonus! We did the Skyline Drive tour. It was the cheapest as others were in the $100 and up range. Although, all proceeds go to the Catalina Island Conservancy, a worthy cause. I just think next time, I will save more $$ to go on a better tour. The driver was funny and very informative. He loved his job. I can tell , cause I work in customer service too and I love my job. He had the same attitude I did. We saw Buffalo roaming and some lovely canyons and hills. Such a great day. It takes you to the airport where you only have about 20 minutes to hang out before the hour long trip back down. We took the East End Tour this past weekend. Stephen was our driver/tour guide and did an amazing job. We had a full truck load (12 total with 6 in our group alone). Stephen did a great job of answering everyone's questions and making sure that each person was having a good time. We were able to see some bison. We also did the undersea tour on the semi-sub and had a blast! We got to see a ton of fish and learn a lot about the sea life. I've done the zip line in the past and it is something you MUST try! The trip was planned around a Zip Line tour. For those of you who haven't done it, or are scared of the price, trust me it's worth it! Almost 2 full hours of good times and thrills! Austin and Patrick were super goofy, fun and knowledgeable! They made you feel safe and told corny jokes, It was a perfect experience and well worth the money! We also saw deer and a certain little fox that we were told were only native to the Island of Catalina. I only wish I would have had enough gumption to ask Austin for his number! East end adventure was a great excursion we did while at Catalina Island. We came here through the cruise inspiration carnival, and we were given only two time options to do for this excursion. We decided to go on our own and purchase our own through their website while we were on the boat parked close by the marina ( internet access is limited on boat) . So I think it was three or five dollars more expensive when you buy on your own , however, you don't have to deal with being at someone else's schedule. The girl who did our excursion her name was Cindy. She was very funny she had a lot of humor. She cracked a lot of jokes. We did see a Bryson once. She was a very detailed presenter. The East End Adventure by Hummer (Carnival Inspiration shore excursion operated by Catalina Expeditions) excursion was totally awesome! This excursion was packed with spectacular views and was an exciting adventure. We travel aboard an open air Hummer jeep along Catalina's scenic East End Trail. We experienced vistas usually reserved for ambitious hikers. We climbed 1,684 feet to the East Peak and then descend along the Avalon Canyon Ridgeline with scenic views of Catalina's windward side and a bird's eye view of Avalon Canyon and Bay. We had an opportunity to see bison, bald eagles and native plants. Our driver; Charles was skillful, talkative and made the excursion educational, fun and truly enjoyable. read more

The Skyline tour is 2 1/2 hours long and really gives you a full history of the island. Our guide Cooper was awesome and did not leave out any details. He answered everyone's questions. He also laughed at several (way too many) stupid jokes that were made. I don't know how he can deal with several tours a day with people trying to do comedy. We saw the infamous buffalo that roam the hills and the airport. The only break is at the airport where there is a snack bar.
