I wish this church focused more on the Bible. The music is…read moregreat and people are nice, but I don't really agree with the messages I have heard or read from their main pastor. The messages often are more focused on life and less on what the Bible teaches us. This church does what they can to take the Bible and society and bend the Bible a little to make society feel more comfortable. I believe you have to be careful when compromising the Bible's message and using verses out of context. We are warned about this in the Bible. if the beach is the Bible, the tide is society, and the church is the person in the water then this church has been swept away from the Bible as their context towards righteousness and has lost their way a little. Churches need to make the Bible their guide not what feels right. This church wants everyone to just be happy, and they do a disservice by compromising the message of the Bible to try to make it what people want to hear. They use a lot of emotion, but you should never have to compromise the Bible to meet societies desires. I think they are great people, but they have let politics come into their message too much, and I wonder if their focus is more towards politics than equipping members to have a deeper relationship with Christ through his message. I wish them the best, and I hope the new pastor the best. There are some other great alternatives around that are more upbeat and modern, but they maintain their commitment to the Bible a little better.

Parking is free on Sundays in the municipal parking garage across East-West Highway from the Round House Theatre. The garage may be entered from Montgomery Avenue or either side of Waverly Street. The MBC church is a wonderful way to interact with a local community of followers of Christ while still learning from the insights of the main pastor Lon Solomon from the main VA campus. Services are held: Sunday 9:00 am 10:45 am There is free childcare for parents who want to attend service in peace and quiet. Services are not very long, for those of us who have the attention spans of gnats.

Upon entry I was greeted with a smile and a welcome and given a very detailed map of where all the departments were located throughout the church for the sale. In each department there were many smiling helpful church members offering assistance. I found loads of cook books, a 14k gold chain, bits to make a terrarium and many other great items. The church itself is beautiful with a large parking lot. Very nice church members working there. I can't wait for next years sale.

Bethesda Presbyterian Church and their amazing staff is one of the four area churches serving as congregational partners, in providing their fellowship halls that Bethesda Cares utilizes to provides hot, healthy and balanced meals. Table and chairs placement, sanitizing, setting - with fresh flowers to boot, is all part of the set up process. We then proceeded to the kitchen & lent our culinary skills in our own right & participated in food prep of all the non hot items...those were already in the oven cooking. The six of us including the church staff created a fresh fare of salad, guacamole & chips, fresh fruit, desserts, coffee/tea, & individually wrapped ham & cheese/turkey & cheese sandwiches for the visitors to take with them. I had the esteemed pleasure of handing out the mini size toiletries that included soap both bar & liquid, shampoo/conditioners, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors & deodorants to name a few...it was heartfelt something so small was such a big help to someone. This encourages me even more as a giver & as an Elite, in making donations at our events that will further contribute to Bethesda Cares' mission & awareness. It was very rewarding to offer a set of hands today in coming together with other giving and fabulous volunteers in helping those who who are in need & part of our community.

The Methodist Church is going through a lot of change right now, and BUMC is working hard to find their place in the midst of many difficult conversations. The youth program is active and vibrant, so it's always gratifying to see a stampede of young children finding their families at the end of the service. Many of those youth stay involved all the way through high school via service trips and Sunday night youth group, and there are even college scholarships awarded each May. The music program is also large and very active, with a substantial vocal choir, hand bell choir and praise band. New volunteer opportunities crop up often, being it preparing food for wounded soldiers at Walter Reed, putting together meals kits for Rise Against Hunger, or furnishing new homes for refugees and the homeless. It's a testament to this diverse community that many of these programs are years old traditions and feel larger than any one person themself.
