The buildings are actually labeled on this campus. I mean not just some building named after someone but "Student Services," "Visitor Registration," you get the point. Folks working on the campus seem to sincerely enjoy their job. They'll take cards but they don't swipe them. They'll manually enter it. read more

This is my school! I think they are pretty great and have a lot of good programs to choose from especially if you're interests are as sporadic as mine are. I've had some really good teachers here and also teachers who basically make you teach yourself. The school is always kept clean. It's never dirty or nasty. It is my school of choice read more

Catawba Valley Community College is an innovative, comprehensive community college that fosters and promotes a multitude of learning experiences, enabling and empowering its students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders to identify and to serve higher purposes in their lives and in their communities.

History

Established in 1958.

Through the concerted efforts of concerned and united Catawba County citizens and North Carolina educational leaders, on April 3, 1958, Catawba Valley Community College was established by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction as the ninth school of its kind in the state. Construction of the original facilities began in 1959. The 40,000 square foot building costing approximately $500,000 was completed in August 1960. An initial enrollment of seventy-seven (77) students began classes in September of the same year. From 1960 to 1963, the College operated under the jurisdiction of the Catawba County Board of Education. During this time the College was known as the Catawba County Industrial Education Center. In July 1963, the General Assembly of North Carolina enacted into law G.S. 115A which provided for the establishment of the present North Carolina System of Community Colleges. On January 9, 1964, Catawba Valley Technical Institute was among the original seven institutes

The costs of the university are higher because it is a private university but the staff in admissions work hard to help students find funding if they need it. My first degree here was through a bridge program and it was mainly online courses, great for a working adult like me. My current graduate degree is all online courses which again is convenient for working adults. Despite not be a traditional student by living on campus or playing on a sports team, I still feel like I'm a part of the university's student body! My instructors have worked hard to ensure that I have the tools needed for my success and I'm sincerely grateful for my experience at LRU!
