I was not impressed with their Fish and Chips. The fish tasted like D+ fish sticks from grocery store but salty! Tartar sauce was mediocre. The fish was super gamey and loud smelling also. I've had better from other restaurants. I will not order from this place again. read more

The clam chowder was bland. The fish and shrimp combo did not taste like it was seasoned. They did not have a single lemon slice included with the food, and here I am thinking it's standard to give lemon slices with fish. I learned today. I had a couple fries, they were nasty because they were not only overly greasy but they also tasted like they were cooked in old or mixed purpose oil. I stopped eating the food after eating all of the clam chowder, two fries, and one of the shrimp. I will never order from there again. read more

Catch 21 the best in town! This place serves up the best sole fillet dinner around, they also serve various other seafood dishes and they have breakfast too. I eat here at least two times a week or more and can't wait to come back here for more. The service is always great and sometimes the owner will come in and chat with customers to see how everything is , which shows he really cares about the customers . My boss loves this place because the prices are great , the services is wonderful and the owner come out to say hi as well . This place is always clean and their food is fresh and delicious . Ok, had to take care of stuff in DTLA today. So, once done rolled out to Catch 21 on Central just north of Fisherman's Outlet but less crowded! one may call this place the long lost brother to 'FO'! Over all its pretty good. The menu can be misleading. The menu reads Fish Sandwich for $x but, if you want a grilled fish sandwich it runs a little more. Don't know why? deep fried or grilled I think its the same wholesale cost and/or labor costs. lol!! Had the char-grilled sole sandwich came with fries and a small,small side of coleslaw. The 'slaw' was your run of the mill but the sandwich was pretty tasty and cheap! I took off a star for the lack of personality and not taking the order correctly! Man I've been coming here for years and let me tell you.....fish and chips are always the go to meal. Management is always friendly and the atmosphere is always right. There's a couple tv's and they always have some game playing which is great. Also a selection of beer to choose from after a rough day at work. Yes, it's a little more "colorful" than Fisherman's Outlet. But..... it's also cheaper AND they have hamburgers and chicken if someone in your group doesn't do seafood. Which is why we went there last Thursday for lunch with a group. Yes, the service is super friendly and I'll admit that I sometimes get "stressed out" during the ordering process at Fisherman's Outlet (no one would ever notice because I'm a pro, but it can be stressful). 21's grill isn't as flavorful as F.O., but the food is clean, fresh and flavorful. On our last visit our group got; Grilled Halibut (3), Tiger Shrimp, Fish & Chips (2) and a Salmon skewer. My DH got the Tiger Shrimp so I got to try and it was the winner! Get it! My Halibut was good, just not very flavorful. The rice has veg mix in it (not as good as F.O.) but the cole slaw is good and included, at F.O. you just get rice. Although they have a nice fish and shrimp menu they don't have Gigantes (the huge shrimp) like at F.O. or all the different sauces. Catch 21 is good. Another reason we come here (over F.O) is the Sunday situation.... other reasons to come here over F.O.; they have HEINEKEN! you're just getting to-go, less crowded, easier ordering system, cheaper, really good burgers (my DH is a fan!)/options to seafood, quick, good people watching! They've been around a long time, my DH has been coming for years (15+) depending on what group he's with and what BUDGET he's working with!! I love L.A.! read more

After scouring yelp for another place, we discovered this one. 3.5 stars didn't seem very appealing, but we didn't want to drive all over town to find a better rated place so here I sit writing this review. Honestly, it's not bad at all. A little oily.. OK a lot oily, but hey, it's deep fried. I thought it tasted fine and the "chips" were of the crispy variety. My Downtown LA secret. Most people go to the fisherman's outlet across the street. This place is better....much better. The halibut is always superb. This place offers great food, great prices, but is completely no frills at all (paper plates, order at the counter and picnic tables). But Corona's for $2.50 are the topping on the cake. Rice seems to be uncle bens vegetable flavor, which I love under a nice fillet of grilled halibut. Pops eats the fried tilapia and loves it. A little too fried 4 me. No farm raised bull-crap here it seems. Decent patio, but scared shitless 2 eat here unless your used to downtown L.A. Portions are good, filet was decent portion. And they serve cold bottles of beer. At around $10 bucks a person, dirt cheap compared to the slop you pay $20-30 for near 6th and hill. Shit a shitty chipotle meal costs you that much with drink. I almost hate to admit it but initially I was a bit apprehensive of stopping there because I was by myself. Although technically skid row is a few blocks away to me it seems just on the edge. The food there is fabulous and very inexpensive for what you get. Barbeque beef ribs less than $10 if I remember correctly. They were as good as at other places that would cost 3x as much. We also tried the fried shrimp and seafood stew. Also fabulous, huge portions and low prices. I cant think of another place around wher your $ goes so far. read more
