The clams and fish combo. Ridiculous deal!!!
Chef Masa H.

Great food. Insane prices. Not in the best of neighborhoods, but worth a visit. And nice portions. Nice and friendly staff. Plus they serve beer!

Arrived at a time in the afternoon before dinner time & got my usual Fried Scallops with Rice Pilaf & a side order of coleslaw all for $13 tax included. The scallops came out not greasy with ample breading. A great value.

It's literally across the street from another super popular and fisted seafood restaurant, Fisherman's Outlet. I remember we had to wait for our food there and then had to snipe a table in the blinding sunlight. Here, maybe like 2 parties ahead of us and plenty of seating. Not bad! Though, in comparison with such a heavy hitter down the street, this location was just alright. If you just want seafood ASAP, it works, but if you want something higher quality and taste, it's not quite there or maybe we ordered the wrong things. We got the: 1) Shrimp and Crab Ceviche: -Kinda pricy for what it is. Small bits of shrimp and crab in it, but it mostly was like a super watery tomato salsa. Nothing like other places that I've gotten ceviche from and I would rather just boil this into a soup. Big skip. 2) Fried Fish and Shrimp: -Pretty generous plate of fried fish and shrimp. Breading is a bit thick and dry and the moistness of the shrimp and fish was inconsistent with some tasting a bit dry and rubbery and others being perfect. Not sure if different batches were mixed in. Definitely needed lots of lemon and sauce (tartar and cocktail) for this. 3) Fish Burger: -Standard fish burger with some lettuce. Regular sesame bun. Just imagine grabbing the fried fish from the fish dishes and slapping it in between some buns. Again, a bit dry and needed sauce, so we just dipped it into the ceviche. LOL. Overall, just an alright experience.

I ordered to go and I had fish & chips and clam chowder. The food here isn't bad. The fish was crispy and you can't go wrong with fish & chips. I enjoyed the clam chowder too. They have a good array of options which I'd love to try in future visits. The staff was great and pleasant to deal with. There is parking with indoor and patio seating

Ordered 1 salmon plate with 1 calamari and 1 shrimp side on 4/26/25. Order just arrived, I took one fried shrimp out, bit it and was IMMEDIATELY grossed out to see a human hair in the container with the other shrimp. ALL FOOD has been thrown away as the evidence of unsanitary food preperation with that one hair took away my appetite. Definitely never ordering from this place again.

pit stop for cicLAvia OCT2024
Franklin M.

The restaurant was on a closed route due to the cicLAvia bicycle event. I always wanted to stop by and try the food. I was surprised there weren't any bicycles parked outside the restaurant because most establishments are slammed with bicyclists along the route. The outside seating area is dirty and smelled like piss. Since I was already here I went in and checked out the menu and picked out a large bowl of clam chowder. The soup was good but nothing out of this world. They had a steady flow of walk in customers but no bicyclists while I was there. Removing one star for dirty patio area and another star for not so fresh crackers.

Had to do a photo and review this cuz it's delicious and I honestly can't wait to finish. Customer service great

Great food delicious give it five for just that and customer service vibe helps out fast and easy fries are horrible!

Catch 21 is my favorite place to eat while working downtown near skid Row. They have the best deal on seafood. My favorite meal is the grilled sole fish on a bed of rice, something like pilaf rice, and a cup of mango lemonade. The fish is always fresh. Location is everything. So, in this case, Catch 21 is on the fringe of the Los Angeles skid row epidemic. This restaurant is not where you want to go for a romantic date. But if you want an excellent old-fashioned fresh fish, lunch or dinner, this is your place. The serving portions are also very generous. And it's a reasonable price too. This family-run business is the best option for the seafood lover on a budget. Tell them Omar sent you. Bon appétit.

The food was good. It was made fast and hot. There's a lot of foot traffic and I came around lunchtime and had no problem finding parking. It's very open and fresh and the employees are very kind and professional definitely seems like a family owned business you would want to support.

Come here at least once a week for the fish and chips. The price can't be beat and I just love that tartar sauce.

I honestly still can't believe I managed to snag a reservation. I know how hard these are to get,…read moreso I went in with pretty high expectations...and somehow it still exceeded them. I've been a fan of Holbox for a while, but the tasting menu is a completely different experience. Every course was thoughtful, beautifully prepared, and just ridiculously good. There wasn't a single dish where I thought, "Eh, I could've skipped that." You can really see why they've earned the Michelin recognition--it's so well deserved. What I appreciated most was that nothing felt overdone or pretentious. It was just incredible food, amazing ingredients, and a team that's clearly passionate about what they do. If you ever get lucky enough to score a reservation, don't even think twice. It's one of those meals you'll be talking about long after it's over.

Whenever you get close to the door they give you a menu so you can start looking Over it before you order. Then when you make it inside you still wait in line but it's shorter. It's in a food hall. So after you order it's brought to you but don't expect fine dining experience here just because they're a Michelin star. It's a bit loud because it's a food hall. I tried the spot prawn and scallop aguachile. That one was my favorite dish. It had a potent lime taste that brought everything together. You could taste how fresh the fish was. Then I tried the branzino fish which if you've ever eaten it there are bones that you will have to tackle through. Suble lemon flavor and soft pieces of fish. It was a large fish that was easily shareable. It came with rice and beans and also tortillas. The other item I tried was the sea urchin in a shell. It tasted cold and fresh and the flavors were mild. The last item I tried was the Baja taco it was crispy and a thick fish with a little dressing inside it like mayo and a little spicy kick.

I was teaching my niece on navigating public transportation so we took the Metro, made a transfer,…read moreand exited Wilshire/Vermont from the D-Line, and walked half a mile over. If you're driving, Crab House also has a public parking lot that is a gem in this Koreatown area where you don't have to pay or valet. Crab House specializes in Korean seafood, especially raw crab. We felt welcomed as we came in, even with the language barrier, you can tell the ladies were friendly. It was an intimate restaurant but it has dividers up so you feel a sense of privacy even when there are others nearby. The tables all had gloves, for handling the seafood. Even before reviewing the menu, I knew we had to get their raw marinated crab, since it's what they're known for. We decided to share their #9 Combo ($39.99) which comes with 2 USA Crabs and an extra small Sea Urchin rice and a Korean Potato Pancake ($8.99). Meal comes with complimentary side dishes and iced tea. Wow what a glorious spread. This was my niece's first time having raw marinated crab and she really enjoyed it. The fresh seaweed, imitation crab, and fish eggs it was served with was good too The sea urchin rice had uni, rice, quail egg, and fish eggs. Not that fresh or essential but interesting to try. The marinated raw crab was definitely the star. The Korean potato pancake was a decent addition. We both liked the crispy edge pieces but didn't like the soft soggy spots as much. Eat while fresh for maximum crispiness. We both enjoyed our meal and it was a very unique experience. We will definitely be back for more marinated raw crab and to try more of their menu.

THIS PLACE is always good everytime I've gone but I think they improved from the previous years because the banchan was so interesting !! I never had a fish head + deeply braised radish that was perfectly salty spicy and sweet. The spicy rice cake portion was huge ! My friend and I were super full leaving and extremely satisfied. 10/10 recommend for uni bowls + raw crab lovers. I prefer the korean crab but the spicy one just goes so well together. Absolutely amazing service ! Super kind and helpful. Small cozy restaurant not here for the aesthetics of the atmosphere more here for the aesthetically pleasing food + delicious taste. It was perfectly pleasant, though be warned: foot traffic passes just a few feet away. I kicked things off with a martini, which was excellent--surprisingly generous by today's standards and a real deal at $12. For starters, I had the Caesar salad. Think tuxedo at a pool party: definitely overdressed. But it was delicious, and I'd order it again--just with light dressing. The fish sandwich was fine, nothing more. I couldn't help thinking McDonald's might edge them out on the Filet-O-Fish (though it's been decades, so who knows). It wasn't bad; I'd just try something different next time.

Parking is brutal in the area so expect to be circling around for a bit. They have a late happy hour which are half off oysters which is nice! We tried a set of raw oysters - rockefeller, small but might in flavor and meatiness. Shucking was done well too. Grilled octopus - pricey for the amount you get, but cooked well. Accompaniments like potatoes were OK, but could have more mushroom. Shell pasta - the pasta was homemade cause it tasted so light. I think the sauce was a little too light for me as well, but overall still a solid dish. Cioppino - Also a little lighter in flavor and I think just smaller in size in comparison to price. Seafood is fresh though, and that's clear in every dish here. Lonely Louie - the star of the night. I loved how fresh and bright this was. Everything mixed so well together and would definitely be getting this again. Atlantic Pie - their version of a key lime pie and was a tangy, nice finisher to the meal.
