What's a visit to Ttown without a visit to Catfish Heaven? A true local staple whose friendly and lively staff match the welcoming, down home vibe. Now, the food is where it truly excels. It's a fried food dream (and the food isn't dripping in grease). The catfish is generally why everyone comes and rightly so, but I think they have some of the best wings in town. There are so many flavors and I love that they aren't those large, genetically altered jumbo wings. I enjoy the sweet chili wings. You can get then fried to your liking as well, which is great! All of the food is made fresh to order, and luckily, it only takes 10 minutes to get most meals made. Feel free to order ahead!

Very busy but very expedient. Did not take long to get my food and the staff was nice. The fish was good and hot! The wings were on the small side and not enough sauce but had a good taste. I enjoyed the Hurricane drink. Call in your order for faster service!

Found this business in YELP. The easiest online order ever. It was a "To Go" order in which I had the option of curb service or going inside. Wanted to make sure my order was right. This place was hopping with customers so I thought the food must be pretty good. It was unusually delicious, fresh & hot. This place is over the top in checking off all the boxes of what customer service looks and feels like. Somebody knows what they are doing and I will be back.

So yummy so worth it, fast food! One order can serve two no problem. The hurricane punch is delicious just like old school kool aid. No indoor seating because of covid but great for take out and they bring the order to ur car. Best catfish in town and great wings!

You know the food is good when people will come out in a rain storm for the food! I sat in my car for 15 minutes devouring my food, as I saw one after the other pile in to get this food. White folks, black folks, etc came in to get this food. You see... good food crosses all color barriers. I had the catfish / wings combo. Both the catfish and the wings are the thing here. The fries... eh.. enough said. I am surprised there were only 24 reviews up to this point. I guess the folks here in Tuscaloosa, want to keep a good thing quiet (i.e. keep it to themselves)...lol. I would be back. I recommend visiting this place if in the area. Note: dining area is quite small, with 6-7 tables. I didn't see a public rest room, so I'd imagine a lot of sales are to go. Anyway... it's worth a visit. Thanks for reading..

10/10 would come again. This place is tiny. I mean, teeny-weeny. There is virtually no space to dine in. Sure, they have about 4 or 5 tables that seat about four people each. But it is so crammed and hot in there that you might as will take your food to go. There's a nearby park if you want to make it a picnic. Other than that, this place is virtually liquid gold. I mean, it's all about business. Business in the front, business in the back. Catfish is a popular go to item here, though they do sell a couple of other different types of fish. They also sell boneless and traditional wings. You have the option of getting a whole fish, or fillets. Now, what's important know about the whole fish is that they are not going to filet it in any way for you. So be ready to get down and dirty. The fillets are a decent size for what you get. I went with the 10 piece based on the description the cashier gave me. I thought they would be like chicken nuggets. But no, there was enough food for brunch, an afternoon snack and a light dinner. Seasoning is fabulous on the catfish. Louisiana style. Also, it seems like they rotate out the cooking oil on a regular basis. And you get the Wonder Bread-like slice (I bet you a million bucks that it is, indeed, the Wonder Bread brand). They have a bunch of desserts. Standard Sunday post-church fare. And the lunch special, which extends late into the day, is an amazing offering given the less than $10 pricing on it. Plus, the place sells all kinds of punch (or dranks, depending on where you're from). This is soul food style home cooking. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Food is always fresh. Fish is fresh and quantity is portion for the price. Tornadoes and wings are irresistible.

The batter on the catfish was salty. There are only four tables in the restaurant. The staff was very friendly.

Best fried catfish in Tuscaloosa! A must try. Definitely a hole-in-the-wall restaurant but we'll worth the visit.

Stopped here on our trip home. Good value but the catfish was just a bit mushy. Wouldn't go out of my way again.

The building is not fancy by any means, just a little brick building between a church and a school off Highway 11 (I think). The inside is small with a few booths around the edge and tables in between. The food and the people were what made this place. We were pretty clearly not from the area and were greeted warmly and the plate options were explained to us kindly. I got hamburger steak, yams (I called them sweet potatoes), green beans, Mac n cheese and cornbread. My husband and son shared baked chicken, butter beans, and Mac n cheese and cornbread. Our kiddo is in the 'I only eat Mac n cheese if it comes in a blue box' phase, but he thought this was a delicious alternative. All of my food was delicious and my husband thought the same of his plate. Icing on top? Our lovely server refilled our drinks and packed us a HUGE plate of food to go. We happily shared it later that night at our hotel further on up the road. We will definitely be making this stop again on future trips. The meal was wonderful.

The Brown Bag Restaurant in Northport has been a staple for good eats for as long as I can…read moreremember. I can't tell you how many times people have recommended it for lunch, yet I never managed to stop in and experience it for myself until today. My work schedule and the Bag's hours always seemed to clash, and since it's a bit off the beaten path, it stayed in the "out of sight, out of mind" category. Now, as I'm approaching full retirement, I finally had the time to swing by and see what all the fuss was about. Upon arrival, the first sign you're in the right place is the parking lot. It's packed, about like a blue tick on a hound dog. Stepping inside, don't expect anything fancy. The interior is old school with faded paint and a no frills setup. Your food is served in Styrofoam containers with plastic utensils. But that's part of the charm. Who needs fine china when you're filling your gizzard with good soul food? The place was full and I managed to grab one of the last open tables under the roof. I then waited for the waitress who was running laps across the dining area, taking orders, refilling drinks, checking out customers, and handling everything in between. If you come anywhere near lunch hour, don't expect Jimmy John's Freaky Fast service. You're here to slow down and enjoy the experience. When I ordered, I went with a catfish fillet, turnip greens, field peas, fried green tomatoes, a side of cornbread, and tartar sauce for the fish. The fried green tomatoes did not make it out with the order, but the waitress was very apologetic and adjusted my bill to a meat and two instead of a meat and three, which I appreciated. Now to the important part, the food. The catfish was hot, crispy, and perfectly cooked, not greasy at all, just honest, well done Southern cooking. The turnip greens and field peas were flavorful and comforting, exactly what you hope for in a place like this. The tartar sauce had a slightly sweet twist that I was not expecting, different from the traditional version, but surprisingly excellent. I will need a few more visits before I can fully put that into words, but it worked. Overall, now I understand the buzz. The Brown Bag delivers exactly what it promises, simple, hearty, well prepared soul food served without pretense. I will definitely be back, and now that retirement is on the horizon, I have got all the time in the world to wait on a good meal, unlike you working folks still rushing through lunch.
