This cathedral also call Cathedral of Lyon. It is the church to remember the Saint of John the Baptist. This church was built at mid 14th century. It is an UNESCO world heritage site. When we were there, there is a morning prayer service. We can hear the organ playing and hymns singing. The church is still active serving the city. This church only take 15 minutes to visit. Not much to see. It is located on the Gastronomy restaurant street. In front of the church is a square with a well. The interior has some painting. Other than that there two cardinals buried.

Okay, this is probably not one of the grandest Cathedrals on the continent, but honestly, compared to the cathedrals in Australia it is still pretty amazing. One thing that I noticed is that it was closed during mid-day, so of course, everybody was milling outside waiting for it to reopen. Yeah, it was pretty good, and like a lot of the cathedrals, there was quite a bit of artwork on display, though having been to as many cathedrals as I have, you pretty much get used to what is inside. Oh, they also have a small museum at the side, which is free, where you can go and see some more displays.

Beautiful cathedral located at old town Lyon, I recommend stopping by here if you are in Lyon. Free to enter. Cathedral: Mon-Fri 8am-noon, 2-7:30pm; Sat-Sun: 8am-noon, 2-5pm I came here after work before dinner as they were opened after work hours during a week. Romanesque and Gothic in its style, I enjoyed the beautiful inside. I probably stayed for about 30 minutes.

Woohoo! And, it's a first review for/from the US. Tre' super! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/AtU7QELZJ4KnvsVLAZ6gqA?select=OZqWWRp_QXox_hpsuFTnyw My dear friend Noe and I spent the day carousing around Lyon, and the Primatiale Saint Jean is literally less than 2 blocks from her door step. http://www.yelp.fr/biz_photos/AtU7QELZJ4KnvsVLAZ6gqA?select=fBNciRXAFzXgIzHu9F-GCg Needless to say, I was in awe of this gorgeous work of art. Ancient architecture always blows my mind when I look at all the work that went into the detail of sculpture, glass work, masonry. http://www.yelp.fr/biz_photos/AtU7QELZJ4KnvsVLAZ6gqA?select=NXT4u0CX9gEdafBrCASaQA It's amazing the orchestration of so many artist, craftsmen and laborers that it took to build such a beautiful structure. http://www.yelp.fr/biz_photos/AtU7QELZJ4KnvsVLAZ6gqA?select=mYWM_5sNkoNvYP9dxWoYJw http://www.yelp.fr/biz_photos/AtU7QELZJ4KnvsVLAZ6gqA?select=tm6pWjd4FWagd0lGrvNwdw http://www.yelp.fr/biz_photos/AtU7QELZJ4KnvsVLAZ6gqA?select=3E0rDJSDKLH--U-wsolfCw

Come and rest outside the church and people watch. Then head inside and enjoy the peace and beauty of this architecture.

Some of these churches can be a little tricky when determining how old they are because apparently,…read morethey started building this church during the middle ages and only finished it in the 19th century. Mind you, considering that it isn't a particularly large church, it does make me wonder why it took so long, but maybe it had something to do with them having money problems. Still, it is a rather lovely church, and like a lot of these churches, the artwork inside is absolutely amazing. Oh, one of the more modern aspects of this church is that the stations of the cross have been redone with a much more modern, 21st Century feel about it.
