Really love this local coffee shop! From all the times I've visited there is always a line out the door and parking spot full so be sure to come early. The coffee shop is so cute with house made pastries, craft tables and seating, and books lining the bookcases if you want to read while you enjoy your coffee. If you look around the place they also showcase local artists that make tie dye, portraits, and ceramics. Staff here is super friendly and wonderful to chat with! If you want any of their snacks their pullovers are tasty - my faves are the bacon and mushroom. I haven't tried any of the sweet snacks yet so need to get on those ASAP. read more

One of my favorite coffee shops out of the handful I visited during my stay in Portland. Best vibes. So much space, gorgeous interior, sun rising in the morning put me in a fantastic mood. There was an issue with an order I placed through an app, and they quickly remade my coffee. The employees were super friendly and kind. A couple of local goods sold on premises too. The kind of place where customers talk with their baristas, and you can feel the local connection. It definitely didn't feel as impersonal as a lot of artisanal cafes in Portland. On top of that, an absolutely beautiful neighborhood and near the gorgeous Cathedral Park and running sidewalks by the river and the nearby campus. Only complaint is the small parking lot, but what can you do about that. I will definitely be back :) read more

I worked remotely for a few hours at Cathedral Coffee and had a nice experience! The inside is really cozy for working: free wifi, a little book nook, some big working tables for multiple people, and a few tables in the back. There were a few outlets for charging as well. I'd be happy to work from here again. The staff were friendly. My matcha was delicious and my muffin was warmed up and flavorful. Parking lot was small, but there's street parking nearby. read more

Quant and adorable coffee shop located in St. Johns area. With an unassuming store front, open the door and immediately feel welcomed into this gem of a place to sit comfortably, sip on your drink of choice, chat or do some personal work on your laptop. My latte was strong, hot, and topped with a cute heart. Filled to the brim with delicious brew. Choose your poison and pick a size, 8, 12, or 16 ounces of coffee. No one is in a rush here, great service with the expectation that each hand crafted coffee will be made the equal amount of love. Ample areas to sit that are either communal or secluded little nooks. Great big tables with ample area to do some work, people watch, or simply sip on your delicious creation made by the barista. read more

This is one of my favorite neighborhood coffee shops and ironically the first ever coffee shop I visited when I moved to Portland 2 years ago! I absolutely love everything I've had here but their seasonal lattes and drinks are really amazing. The Chaider is so good (chai and apple cider with hemp milk) and they have such scrumptious pastries! The vegan apple donut was pretty magical. Not gonna lie. There's a small little outdoor patio space that's perfect if you have a pupper with you or you want to meet up with friends safely. The atmosphere is pretty chill and just a nice hangout spot. Full menu that now includes matcha! Yay (more on that below)! Formerly a gas station turned insurance office, Cathedral has a great property with a variety of indoor and outdoor seating combinations - for work, social time and relaxing semi-privately. It's a very popular spot for University of Portland students, which pre-Covid meant it was sometimes hard to get a seat. Now, onto the matcha.. I've been lobbying for years for Cathedral to carry matcha. You have to admit, mid-2020 is a bit late to jump on the bandwagon. But major props for doing it well! First, they chose Mizuba matcha and not the pre-(overly)-sweetened blend from Jasmine. They also prepare each drink fresh, whereas others in town are pre-mixing at the start of each day, resulting in a diluted, watery blend that's far from fresh. Last, the proportions to milk are correct, and you get a matcha-flavored bev! WELL DONE! I docked a star for the pastries, which I believe they make in-house. While there's quite a variety, I find many of the items bland, dry or overly sweet. An example is the cinnamon rolls, which are a dry, flavorless bread smeared with copious amounts of frosting. We have great baked goods/pastry suppliers in town, so this is a miss. read more

Needed a quiet place to prepare for a job interview. Interior looked surprisingly spacious with black ceiling and colorful murals with vintage taste. Customer service was prompt and friendly. Decided to go with activated charcoal mocha (16 oz - $6) with hint of sea salt. Appears it's popular for detox, and quiche looked good too, but I wasn't hungry enough for one as it's generous portion. Nowadays little more food options would be a plus, especially for gluten feee and vegan selections. It's not too crowded and beverage arrived within 5 minutes. Loved the flowers on the table which is where I perched, but bookshelf with green chairs was a nice private area for two I'd use if I was back here with a friend. read more

I used to frequent this place given it's proximity to my house, but in the last few years it's really fallen off. Its a $1.50 for alternative milk, making a plain ol' drip coffee with oat/hemp/almond milk almost $6. They're serving their own brand of coffee these days, presumably doing their own roasting, and it's not very good, flavor is mediocre. Now the worst part: the service. Always delivered with a smile and AT A SNAILS PACE. So slow. There are two people working behind the bar (two baristas, mind you, there's no food prep) and there's always a line out the door. Its take them for-bleeding-ever to make an actual expresso drink or warm up a pastry. REally nice ambience and the baked goods are very tasty, but it's hard to justify paying 12 bucks for a drip and a croissant. read more

Wow. This place is awesommeeee. We came on a chilly Saturday morning and the line was so long it was all the way into the parking lot. Everyone seemed totally fine waiting and the line moved quickly so we knew it was going to be worth it. The vibe of this coffee shop is friendly and warm. They have so many interesting beverages and lots of sweet and savory snack options. I got a one of their seasonal offerings, the orange cardamom espresso tonic and my partner ordered a chai. We shared a portobello mushroom fold over. My drink was magical. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was perfect, mildly sweet, lots of flavor and I love sparkling espresso beverages always. My partners chai was rich and luxurious, perfect balance of spicy and sweet. The fold over had delicious flavor but I wanted a little less bread and a little more topping. Not taking off a star for that because that's silly. They're worthy of all 5 stars. And sorry I don't have a picture, we were too busy enjoying our food and drinks to remember, whoops. read more

A truly wonderful coffee shop that roasts their own beans and bakes their own delicious baked goods! Outdoor seating and indoor seating. Smiling baristas and great service. You must try their amazing bakery offerings! As if it couldn't get better, one of their bakery delivery drivers even once gave me a ride home after hearing I had two flat tires on my bike (they are located on a very popular cycling route) and ran out of tire tubes to repair. One of my favorite coffee shops to go to in Portland! Their bread is very good and they never skimp on their matcha. That being said, it does matter who's behind the counter. Love. Love. Love this cafe. Within a lovely walk's distance from Cathedral park. In-house baked goods (the foldovers and chocolate chip banana bread are so yummy) and a chill staff who remember your face. Beautiful concrete/wood tables and barn doors make the place feel urban and cozy. It's not pretentious coffee or sterile. The cafe feels both rustic and modern. Definitely feels true to the neighborhood it resides in. They're adding more outdoor seating as well! I always wish I'd remember to bring my laptop to hunker down for a work day because you can have great sunshine exposure or a cool indoor table. Definitely recommend whether you're looking for. Absolutely love this place, and have been meaning to review it for a while but keep forgetting! The staff here is really friendly every single time I come in. I've interacted with several different baristas, and each of them is always nice, friendly, and helpful.. so kudos to hiring managers for finding all these awesome people. The coffee is also great, and it helps that the baristas all know how to make perfect espresso, because it truly is an art. I've tried multiple different things on their menu, from my regular drink, to specials that they have... and all are great! The only thing I'm not a big fan of at Cathedral is their baked goods, but I'm admittedly a huge baked goods snob (probably because I eat way too many of them)... and that's alright, I know some people who love them so keep doing what you're doing. Cathedral has been my go to place since I moved to Saint Johns a year ago, I'm glad I finally got around to reviewing it. Keep it up y'all! read more

The decor is fun and feels like 90's Portland. My only small gripe is that people seem to spend forever at a table and it can be a challenge to get a seat sometimes. read more

Take me to cathedral, I'll worship like a dog in the shrine of your chai, I'll tell you my sins and you can sell me your pie, offer me that cappuccino good god let me give you my time $. I tried the lemon poppyseed lavender scone and thought it was nice but slightly salty in some parts and not at all in others. My mom had a strawberry coconut cinnamon muffin that she claimed was one of the best she's ever had. It wasn't too sweet and it had a nice crumble on top. I had a cappuccino that came in a super cute little cup. Dad had the meat quiche while my brother had a black drip coffee and cheese roll. I love that they have a little corner with a door where the baker bakes all of the coffee pastries! They make it on site with fresh ingredients! There is plenty of seating inside and they sell merchandise like shirts and mugs. The shop has two garage style doors that open up to let in a ton of sunshine. Their chai is nicely spiced. read more

What a great little coffee shop with delicious coffee and good food. A couple of things that don't really take away from our experience but it happened and I must be honest when writing this. First, they did get my order incorrect but it wasn't a big deal. I ordered the Ham and honey and they gave me the bacon one instead. It was good but the dough was on the dry side. Also, they ask for your name when they take your order which is great. But then we went and sat down never hearing our name be called. Either say the names louder or inform customers to stay close to the pick up area so that they can know when their order is ready. Our food sat uncollected until I decided to go up and see what was taken so long. Only to find our order had been sitting there ready. Like I said these are very small and easily corrected issues. It won't stop me from going back. I just know better the next time. So hopefully you will too if it's your first time. read more

Easily the best coffee I've had in the few months I've spent in Portland. Their beach brew and espresso are delish. My go to drink is a triple shot short iced latte. Really great spot, whether your intention is to get work done or to catch-up with a friend. Plenty of outlets for the computer users, and comfy spots to sit and chat. The decor is big thumbs up and the baristas friendly. I can imagine this being a lovely place to go when the weather is warmer. The drinks are wonderful; we had various loose teas, a rosemary-lemon-basil soda, and a peppermint mocha, and all were delicious. The pastries are also amazing (we went with the caramelized onion and pepper jack popover). However, keep in mind that due to popularity, it can a bit crowded. We didn't have an issue, but we got there relatively early and it did fill up. read more

Visited Smith and Bybee Wetlands and stopped for coffee after. Coffee was very good and the sweets were tasty. The crumble top pear muffin was great and the pumpkin muffin with cream cheese frosting soft and not overly sweet (but sticky). There were a few places inside where you could sit with some distance. There is also an area outside where a few people could sit separately on the left and a bench on the right side of the building against the window. Great little place now but after the rona will be wonderful to sit and sip in there! read more

I live within walking distance so I probably spend more time here then I should. The coffee is great quality, and made the way you like it, and made with care by a team of great baristas. Their baked goods are fantastic and fresh. They are the perfect bit of comfort food to go with a good cup of coffee. Not the biggest fan of the quiche, but I think its a personal taste thing. The texture is not what you would expect out of quiche so its not something I will order frequently. This is a great place while you are in the neighborhood to get GREAT coffee and with a great vibe. read more
