Amazing cathedral with a great history (Christopher Columbus was buried here- you can see his magnificent monument). There's two lines to get into the cathedral, the line in front of a round monument is faster than the other. In the cathedral, there's a mirror that allows you to take a picture of yourselves with the ceiling. And try to get to the top of the cathedral - there's not much stairs (more of a steady incline). This place is one reason why the scenic spots and historical sites in Sevilla are so much better than the scenic spots and historical sites in Boston. This is probably one of the most beautiful churches I have visited, and it is probably one of your top reasons why you should visit Sevilla. One cool fact about this place is that this place is supposedly the 3rd biggest church building in the world, behind the Basilica of the National Shrine located in Aparecida, Sao Paulo State, Brazil, and St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City. I was able to walk up into La Giralda, which is the bell tower of the cathedral. There is no stairway to get up to the top of the tower, instead, there is a ramp, which makes climbing up the tower significantly easier without tiring your legs. Once I got to the top of the tower, I saw a magnificent view of Sevilla. It's probably one of the highest towers in this city, and it's probably one of the few places in Sevilla where you can get a nice view. Artwork is really impressive and can possibly leave you speechless and in awe at times. There's a giant mirror on the floor of the cathedral so you can see the ornate scroll work on the ceiling without having to stretch your neck while looking upwards. This place is also the present day burial site of the famous navigator and explorer Cristóbal Colón (Christopher Columbus). It's probably one of the most elaborate tombs for a person in written history. Admission fee is probably €8 but I was able to get inside for reduced admission fee of €2. All I did was that I showed my student ID card to the ticket office, and I paid my €2 coin. It does show that a student ID card can be quite useful when you are traveling. Overall, I think this is probably one of the best attractions in Sevilla, and if I ever come back to this city, I would definitely revisit again for the nice view of the city, the spacious interior and the pretty artwork. read more

There was a really long line out front that almost deterred us from going inside. I am glad we opted to wait. The line moved pretty quickly and it was free for the kids. You can buy a phone guide tour for your walk. We only got 1, it wasn't really worth it for 4 euro. This was a pretty amazing cathedral. The details and delicacy of the building were mind boggling. We decided to walk the 36 or so flights to the top of la giralda. It's mostly ramps on the walk up until you get to the top and there is one flight of stairs. This was definitely the highlight of the visit. Although it was crowded, people were moving quickly out of the spaces after they took their photos overlooking the city. On a clear day you can see for miles. It was breathtaking. You may want to check out the gift shop while you're in line. The one at the end does not have nearly as much to offer. They also may not let you back through the gate to get to that shop unless you beg them. read more

There are cathedrals, true wonders of the physical world, and then there is this cathedral; something other. The size alone will stun even the experienced visitor to such a place, the layout is humbling for the lay, but truly metaphysical for anyone even slightly touched by divine architecture. I was nearly in tears thinking of the countless human hours required to build, design and maintain this place of wonder. Obviously, this is a must see if you are in Sevilla. However, what sets this place apart from others is the variety of things here. Of course, there is the cathedral itself, with all the history and artistry you can hope for, but it was the side "attractions" that put it over the top. The cathedral itself has the remains of Christopher Columbus and many rooms to wander around in, not just one large main room. There is a cool garden and what I call the "backyard" courtyard of this place. It is a great place to hang out and eat, or just take in the outside air and the marvelousness of what you are standing on. There is also the tower that is part of the cathedral and after circling many flights, is worth the view from the top. There are large bells that adorn this tower at the top as well. read more

This cathedral is one of the biggest in the world and I can attest, it is one of the biggest if not THE biggest cathedral I've been in. You can either buy tickets online (but you can't do that day of - only truly ahead of time) or you can stand in line to get in. When I got there, I stood in line for about 30 minutes to enter. Their tickets are very affordable and they have a discounted rate for seniors and students. The inside is beautiful and there is even the location of Christopher Columbus' remains (supposedly). You also get entrance to La Giralda from here, so I'd definitely recommend! read more

This place is a gem en bonita Sevilla. If you're in Sevilla, and you don't come here, you're MISSING OUT. Came here in the Spring of 2011, and was in awe. I climbed to the very top, which was very much worth the climb (and workout...hehe). The views from the top are breathtakingly awesome. I was included in a group of 13 to go on the rooftop guided tour of the Cathedral of Sevilla, and get a bit higher and closer to the tall Giralda. The tour started at noon and we were waiting then started from the Consititution Avenida entrance to the cathedral. We were led through a locked gate, and up a tight, narrow, steep set of steps (many more to follow) that took us up to where the interior lighting is located, for a look DOWN at the cathedral floor below. The guide provided us with an excellent hiostory at each stage of the tour and the many stops at each level and location. Next up another set of winding steps to the top of the first level of the roof there the stained glass are, with a view looking down at the avenida below. Again we went up more narrow winding steps to the interior again.... then finally up to one area of the rooftop. Each stop offered great history and views. Another winding stairwell to even a higher area which was the top of the cathedral ceiling. What fabulous views!! All-in-all, a great time and views and fotos. I don't know how much it cost since I was included in my friend's visit but if you can go one day, by all means DO SO!! You will not regret it. Wear comfortable walking shoes since you will be moving in very tight narrows walkways and steps. a small key light might be handy since at one point there were no lights on one of the last steps leading to the final rooftop area. Bring your camera!! Wear a hat in case of summer (HOT!) but while INSIDE the cathedral don't forget to remove it. Bring some water since it'll be hot going up all the steps! Carry as little outside your body (purse, handbag, backpack, etc) as you will be transversing through narrow tight spaces!! Watch your step!! If tall, watch your step and your head!! Most interior shots you'll need to capture the cathedral scenes with ISO higher than 1600. Yes. No tripod should be taken as you won't have time to set it up, or no room to use it, nor be able to carry/hold it while moving through the very narrow spaces and steps. Outside normal camera shots are excellent and at a normal daytime ISO. read more

5 stars for any place of worship, because I fear the after life. Jokes aside, gothic building fans will love this. Spent a couple of hours in here exploring all the designs and details, gold and paintings. The guy who became famous for making a wrong turn in 1492 across the oceans is buried here. Apparently, there is DNA evidence to prove this since some years back. I learnt this from tailing an English speaking guide and his group, lol. Few cathedrals give such a grand impression, the pillars are massive and the cieling artwork in itself. More signs about how it was constructed would have been interesting. Tourists using kneeling prayer bench as foot rest always crack me up. Lines outside look long, but move fast and you are inside within 20 min. read more

We came to this massive, solemn and imposing looking Cathedral around 1 pm. The square was packed with tourists taking pictures with the Pope John paul Ii stature or the fountain. There are restaurants galore in the vicinity. And the Alcazar is right next door. Our desire to see the inside of this magnificent church was dampened by the long line for individual ticket purchase to get in. We're glad however we got to admire this famous landmark, at least from outside. read more

of all the churches and cathedrals in the country of espana, we were told that this cathedral is a must see as it is the grandest of them all. we came on a sunday morning and noticed that there was no ticket seller or money collector at the main entrance, and i'm guessing this is b/c it was a sunday and mass was taking place at the time. no complaints from hubby and i as we saved €9 each on the entrance fee! we only peeked into the main hall of worship since mass was taking place and we did not wish to disturb the services, but it was very grand, with lots of opulent, religious decorations and high arch ceilings. the rest of the cathedral was divided into multiple rooms, each with its own display, honoring christ, the apostles, mary, and other religious figures. there really was so much to take in i think i started to feel overstimulated by everything i saw! in general, i did feel that the rooms were very dark, despite it being daytime and a bright sunny day outside. also, i noticed that parts of the church were closed to the public, possibly b/c services were taking place? possibly b/c it was sunday? it wasn't a big deal since we had more than enough to look at and admire, but i wondered if these other sections would be open on a different day of the week. once we finished touring the interior, we then walked around the entire perimeter of the building, admiring the various statues and decorations on each of the four sides. this took a while as the cathedral is massive! this is definitely something that needs to be at the top of your "must see" list if you plan to visit sevilla! read more

Cathedral de Sevilla is one of the tourist locations when you are in Spain. It's one of my first Spain churches this trip, and I found the colours and design very different from Eastern European churches. When you enter in, you'll arrive in the center of the church, which is outdoors, washrooms are downstairs. When you are outdoors in the center of the church, be careful of stepping into their aqueducts, as they are quite large. One thing I really appreciated here was one of the alters that were made entirely of gold. In addition, directly across from it, is an area dedicated for choir members with a story carved on the chairs so each chair has a different illustration. The remaints of Christopher Columbus, or a piece of him anyways. read more

There isn't much that I can add that hasn't been said already--the Catedral is a must see while in Sevilla along with the Alcázar. The building itself is huge, beautiful, and gothic. There are plenty of small areas and rooms with things to see, highlighted by Christopher Columbus's remains. Additionally, the climb to the top is easy and the views are absolutely incredible. On a nice day, you can see the entire city of Sevilla, even stretching out into the countryside of Andalucia. Location is also incredible. You're steps away from a marvelous shopping district, the Alcázar, Parque de Maria Luisa, and the river, which offers a beautiful running/biking path. Definitely worth the admission and hour you'll spend there. read more

Did not have a ticket so waited in the non-ticket line at 11 AM when it first opened and within 15 minutes we were inside (already a relatively long line when we arrived so go when it opens if you can!) after purchasing our tickets which included going up the Giralda Tower. It's a beautiful church that includes the tomb of Christopher Columbus. The tower does not have steps going up or down - just many inclines with windows that allow you to appreciate the architecture of the Cathedral's roof better. At the top of the tower you have a gorgeous view of Seville and can see the towers of Plaza de Espana. If you can, return to the Cathedral at night, especially to the plaza adjacent to the Tower - it is stunning when it's all lit up! read more

The largest gothic cathedral in Europe is in Sevilla Spain! Who knew? Not us. Drawn to the enormity of this building and seeing the long line we gave into peer pressure and went inside from the hot sun. You should buy your tickets online so your wait in line is much shorter. Otherwise they have a relatively fast moving line to purchase at the site. Audio selections available and maps in many languages. Once through security you are welcomed by a gallery room of the largest, both in width and height, columns you've never seen! Absolutely incredible girth. You feel minuscule and entirely insignificant, which was I suppose the point. Expect stained glass, gilded spaces, ornate sacristy, prayers, and lighted displays coordinated to music. Upon exit there is an orange grove that replicates the columns inside. The Giralda tower is built atop a minaret surprisingly and you can tour for an additional fee. read more

Words cannot describe the awesomeness of this place. Walking down the street and seeing this appear before you will send chills down your spine. And seeing it at night is even more impressive, there is even bats hovering around the towers. Inside is equally as brilliant, the statues holding up the tomb of Columbus are magnificent. I had no issue paying to get in, its an invaluable experience, you're on vacation if you can't afford the 10 euros you shouldn't have gotten on the plane to begin with. The preservation of such a historic place does not happen on it's own, and donations are not always given so an entrance fee is required. And usually the people who complain about admission fees are the ones too cheap to donate. The beauty of this city and cathedral should never be compared to anything in North America, its like comparing a Ferrari to a Civic. That rant aside, seeing this place is worth going to Spain itself. read more

The architecture is beautiful and the views from the bell tower is amazing. The only thing that turns me off to this beautiful building is the fact that there is a charge to enter. I have been to many cathedrals in different countries, and this has been the only one which charges admission. I understand the need to maintain it, but do so in a donation basis, or charge to access some of the cathedral, but not the main worship areas. read more

The interior of this Cathedral is spectacular - you might want to give yourself about 10 minutes to just lay on a pew and look at the detailed ceiling. This UNESCO world heritage site was built on the site of the Almohad Mosque, the only remaining portions of which are the courtyard and the minaret which was converted to a bell tower. Our hotel person told us to get our ticket for this church because it includes tickets to see Cathedral of Seville - that way we wouldn't have to wait in loooooong line. Thank goodness we took her advice because it was a win win situation. Iglesia del Salvador was stunningly beautiful. The Cathedral ticket line was forever but we didn't have to wait at all - we just went to the front and showed our receipts. And what an entrance......it is huge, ornate, and stunning. read more

An absolutely beautiful cathedral. If mass is going on be sure to come back so you can see the whole thing (that is what I had to do). A highlight of the the cathedral is Christopher Columbus' grave. Say what you will about him as a person but it is still impressive to see the remains of the man who you were told your entire childhood discovered the Americas. Hot day. Long lines. Along came an English speaking guide who rounded up a small group (eight of us) to bypass the long queue. So for €5 per person in addition to the €7 admission fee with a private guide, we were sold. He was very knowledgeable and informative, even gave us a peek into a forbidden area, the royal altar. The cathedral is huge, more like a basilica. The art on display was of museum quality. Christopher Columbus' tomb is here. Didn't climb the bell tower but it supposedly offers a great view atop. The facade is beautiful all lit up at night. Don't miss it if you're in Seville. Combine it with a visit to the Real Alcazar which is just across the plaza. If you didn't get advance tickets, be prepared for long lines, unless a private guide seeks you out. Wear sunscreen/hat to protect yourself while in line. Visited September 2016 read more

Call me a overly Islamicized, but I always preferred the Alcazar to the Catedral. Too much horse poop and not enough shady trees.

And I can confirm that the Sevilla's church is the most beatiful that I ever seen. Is fully luxurious, golden and is difficult to find a hollow without art inside it. The cathedral is a gorgeous monument. The giralda was first arabic and now it`s cathlic like the cathedral it´s self. I like to walk around the cathedral and enjoy the neighborhood Santa Cruz. There´s a big museum inside the cathedral so I´d suggest to visit that too. It´s located near the metro too, so convenient. read more

Staff at the cathedral was just plain rude and seemed very impatient at dealing with foreign tourists, which seems odd for a place that is such a tourist trap. Waited in line for about a half hour before getting to the front and being informed I was waiting in the wrong line. Well why can't you put up signs explaining that this line was for tour groups? The man at the door explained that the sign was at the entrance of the church, not helpful if you got into the line around the block. Plus the signage was confusing and pointed groups in the wrong direction. I'm writing Pope Francis a letter about this travesty immediately. read more

this review is just about the management. not the cathedral itself. because we all know the cathedral is beautiful. my girlfriend and I booked tickets over a month in advance for an evening slot with a rooftop tour. the night before we get to Seville, we get an email without warning or explanation, that our tickets got refunded and we had to pick another time. Turns out, a famous soccer player was to be married the evening we were supposed to go. I feel like the cathedral management would have known about this more than a month in advance so the public would not have to go through this...but it is what it is. We were able to get regular admision tickets for the following afternoon ( the rooftop tour was sold out but i am not mad at that). I order tickets for the following day, and the payment goes through but with no email cofirmation with the pdf tickets. We went to the cathedral the day before our tour and were told that as long as we show the employees the screen shot of our or order we should be ok. Fast forward to the day of our tour, and low and behold, we run into a problem. Wr were told to wait so that a supervisor could help us. Turns put two other parties ran into the same issue we had. we were waiting for almost an hoir before we could br allowed in, even though we paid for pur tickets twice. I will say that the woman working the entryway, Maria, was working her tail off trying to help all of us. Even with the frustration from us, she remained calm and did her very best to get in touch with her supervisor. So a big thank you to Maria for helping us out! But this whole ordeal really soured what should have been a beautiful experience read more
