She spends her weekends looking for any resources she can bring into the classroom that would help enhance each child's experience. If she has a student who is struggling she turns every stone looking for techniques they can use to ensure the child gets everything they need to be successful in learning and growing. When she's out and about she's constantly seeing things that remind her of her kids and gets excited to tell them what she saw. Mrs. Hanscome is always thinking about her students. She isn't just concerned with how her kids thrive in her class, she's focused on supporting them so they thrive everywhere they are. My son began at LRC as an infant and continued on through preschool. He is now in kindergarten, and attends the after-school program as well. LRC is owner-run, and that owner has been at LRC for many years. Her staff is warm, engaged, creative and patient. There is admittedly turnover, but when that does happen, they manage to maintain consistency for the children and find new staff that fit the strong mold described above. LRC is very thoughtful about its program, keeping it fresh, interesting and age appropriate. They bring in outside educators as well, including movement and dance, music, librarians and, for the older children, "Mad Science." There are themed parties, a cute preschool graduation, and more. It's a happy, vibrant community I feel lucky to have been a part of.

But, I found out that the Casco Bay YMCA was having an open house, where you could have a 2 week membership for free AND it was only a 5 minute drive from my new digs. Cool. Upon arrival I waited patiently while the desk associate talked another customer through a lengthy list of classes and how strenuous they are. She was apologetic and allowed us to enter the gym area to start our workout, then check in with her later. I thought this was great customer service, so, thank you. The workout area was clean and not crowded. I was able to use 2 different machines and the weight room without having to wait. There is also a nice, small, indoor track to use for walking or cooling down. On the way out, the person at the desk encouraged us to join, explained the benefits, and also told us a membership there included all other surrounding YMCAs (although I thought once you joined the Y you could go anywhere in the country, so that was a bit confusing). She was very friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy her job, a trait which I appreciate in the customer service industry. This Y has a pool, extensive workout area, outdoor basketball courts, and a lot of weekly classes. If you are in Freeport and want a nice place to do any of these activities, I wouldn't hesitate to go here. Also check online for swim hours and other activities that are happening that day. They have family events throughout the year.
