The Forestry commission have been working hard to revamp this area as part of the Legacy 2014 project and I popped along for an 'open day' event where they were highlighting all they were doing. When you walk in, you're immediately transported into a little paradise of greenery - although when I went it was FILLED to the brim with kids. Seriously, this is a great place for children. They have a bike track for kids to ride around filled with hills, rocky sections and plenty of opportunity to fling themselves round while staying safe. They also have a bouldering section - where the Climbing Academy were showing people how to safely boulder. I didn't try it but it looked pretty cool! If that weren't enough, there is the COOLEST adventure playground. Seriously, if it had been quieter and no kids were around I would absolutely have been running all round that. Yes, I am a big kid. This is true. A bit further a walk on the loop there's a lovely board walk by the water to have a nice wander, and they're working on some seating areas. A little birdie also told me the plan in the future is to have a bridge linking this park to the athletes village - a lovely idea to connect the two parts together and I can imagine it'd be a lovely walk around them all on a Sunday afternoon (to counteract the Sunday Roast!) While the grand opening isn't until Spring 2016, I highly recommend keeping an eye out for more events prior to then to check it out. And I know I'll be back in spring for sure.

I popped along here on my bike at the weekend to check out Glasgow's newest public park - and I was…read moreimpressed! The 15-hectare site was previously waste industrial land, located in a bend on the River Clyde by Dalmarnock. After many years of clearing and treatment, the Forestry Commission were able to start work rejuvenating this large east-end space. Located just over the river from the Commonwealth Village, in the shadow of the Emirates Arena / Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, the park is accessed from Downiebrae Road (near Tesco Rutherglen), and soon by a new foot and cycle bridge from the Village. A great space for families, there's lots of play facilities. For all ages there's extensive trails, riverside boardwalks, graded rock-climbing boulders, mountain-bike "pump track", meadow, picnic areas, and so on. Thousands of trees have been planted, and as they grow and mature, this amazing space will become a real gem in the renovated east-end.

Only a 40 minute drive from our BnB. Plenty of parking at the visitors centre at the main entrance. Free of charge. And no charge to enter the park as well. There are some shops, a coffee shop, a garden center, arts & crafts, toilets, a playground. Lots to do. There are several paths leading you through the big grounds of this park. Some very easy and flat. Some more narrow and a bit wet after rainy days. Bring some good shoes to be sure. We loved walking around the park with our English Bulldog. Lots of other furry friends to meet here. And a lot less visitors than one might expect. A first highlight is the Craigend Castle. Or more like what remains of it. Now nature is taking it back and it's fenced off. Some part of me would love to see it restored. Bought I also understand that they like to keep it this way. Let nature take it back for a living place for various animals. Then Mugdock Loch is another highlight. Walk around this beautiful quiet little Loch. Plenty of photo ops and benches for a picnic. The Loch is also the place where you will find the Mugdock Castle. Some really nice remains. Very fun to explore. With tables to make a picnic. A really nice little castle. We very much enjoyed our day here. Follow the map and the paths. Or just start walking and let yourself get lost a little. Surprisingly it's free...something that wouldn't be possible in my country. Not an impressive park of this size with so much to see. A lovely place.

I had been going to Mugdock for years and never new there was a castle and only last summer, up behind the castle I found some world war 2 gun barracks.. So much to see and the wildlife is amazing.. If your lucky enough you might go when the castle is open, if you get the chance go in as the view from the roof is stunning.. They also have a coffee shop where you can get some food but most importantly an ice cream..

On a high, lonely hill at the back of Paisley lies Gleniffer Braes, another staple of my childhood…read more Infamous for the 'Car Park in the Sky', as it's known by locals, many visitors drive up for some fantastic views of the surrounding countryside and cityscape, which is particularly pretty at night. Some visitors go for more naughty reasons, or so I'm told... ^^; The country park itself is nice and tame, and its a great place to get your kids into hiking / hill walking. The terrain is not very challenging, but there's enough character to keep the little folk entertained. Tannahill's Well and the Glen Burn Waterfall are just a couple of the nifty features. But if you don't fancy a walk, there's a play park close to the Car Park area, with ice cream van and (sometimes) a snack bar to keep the kids happy. Many was the weekend where my dad and 'Uncle Wonderful' took my sister and I to the 'Car Park in the Sky'. Our teachers thought we had very vivid imaginations. I think its worth it just to mess with the teachers. Probably one of the best things to do up on Gleniffer Braes is fly a kite! It's often extra windy, even on sunny days, and quite often you see a good few people with kites, and even some with professional stunt kites. Who doesn't love a good kite flying? I still do it from time to time. It's hard to make it up there if you don't have a car because of lack of pavements, and no public transportation goes up that way either; but if you can arrange a drive up there, it's a nice wee place to spend an afternoon on a nice day.

This is a great place for dog walking and for children to explore the countryside. It also has…read morebrilliant views over Paisley and Glasgow so you can watch planes taking off from Glasgow airport. Unfortunately many of the paths get very muddy and sometimes in heavy rain they get washed away, so they are not suitable for the disabled or people with poor mobility, which is a real shame. There is a waterfall, streams and reservoirs with plenty of local wildlife to see. Sadly there are no toilets, no visitor centre, no catering facilities and apparently no funding to repair pathways or railings so you have to be very careful where there is a steep drop to one side of the path. It is a shame that the development plans for Gleniffer Braes that were proposed in 2008 never came to anything as this would be a brilliant place to have a mountain biking track, a ranger guided wildlife exploration tour for young people, and other activities for people with reduced mobility to access the countryside. If a group called 'Friends of Glennifer Braes country park' ever existed I am sure that lots of volunteers would love to help with clearing vegetation from the pathways and repairing the ravages of heavy rain that have carved huge gaps in some of the walk ways making the footing treacherous in parts. I would love to volunteer. This is a fantastic wild place to explore within easy reach of Paisley, Barrhead, Neilston and Glasgow, and could be much better maintained and much better used by everybody. Vandals often leave litter so I take an empty carrier bag and collect some of this and put it into the bins. Sometimes there are also fires lit at the base of trees, and the rescue life saving rings are usually floating in the reservoirs instead of in the holders ready to save lives. I believe that if the park was better maintained and a source of local pride then hopefully the vandalism would reduce when people could see that it was being cared for. I believe a sum of money was allocated to the original project in 2008 so if this still exists could it not be used to repair paths and railings? If it at least paid for hardcore and timber then perhaps volunteers would help to carry out the work?

For me, Rouken Glen is also very special, it's where I used to feed the ducks when I was little, I learned how to ride my Bluebird bike here, I enjoyed eating ice-creams here with my family in summer and making a wish by throwing pennies into the waterfall with my dad. Rouken Glen is a beautiful park and there is so much to do here, especially if you have a young family. If you're a nature lover then it's great to come here for a walk and listen to the birds tweeting. When I came here last summer I was glad to see that it's still as popular as ever, we even took the paddle boats out and I enjoyed being captain for the day as G-Bot is useless at rowing. I also took a lot of flyers from the park rangers office, that encouraged people to be more environmental and bring out the hippie in you. This year I plan to take part in some of the activities in these flyers, such as going on an ancient tree hunt, joining the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, taking part in National Insect Week by going on a bug hunt, who knows I might even find Bugtropolis. What better place to do all of these things than at Rouken Glen? If all that nature tires you out then there's a little cafe beside the pond to sit and recharge your batteries.

For the first few months of living…read morehere, I hadn't paid it a visit... but then the sun came out, and off we went with our sandwiches and newspapers. I really like the boating pond and the waterfall in the park - these are my two "must visit" places whenever we visit. Around this time last year, I visited here on a foraging expedition with Whole Foods in Giffnock and managed to collect masses of wild garlic in the area near the vet (entrance off Rouken Glen Road). Even on a sunny, summers day this park never really feels overly crowded and I put that down to the wide, open green spaces with nothing but grass and trees. I think that's what makes me love this park so much - it's not overdone. It's fab for a Saturday picnic reading the papers, as well as bike riding and possibly also roller skating (yet to try that one!). For the kids there's a skate park and playground. The garden centre nearby is also really lovely to pop into to go to the cafe. I know there was some controversy about the cafe near the boating pond, so I'm not 100% sure if that's still open. My favourite thing about this park though is that a scene from Trainspotting was filmed here. I'm still trying to work out the exact spot!

From Greenock Cruise Terminal you only have to take 2 trains: Greenock to Glasgow Central, then transfer to train that goes to Pollokshaws West. Costs about 10 pounds (taxi costs 60). There is a nice, free museum there. Restrooms and cafe are very modern and super clean. There is a tram that takes you around the park, and even stops at the train station. Kids loved this park. Very open and not busy.

Deep into the South Side, Linn Park is absolutely enormous and due to it being used mainly by…read morelocals in what is one of the city's leafier suburbs, a somewhat tranquil location to spend time. Facilities wise, there's a couple of adventure playgrounds, a large equestrian centre, and a golf course, which in all honesty isn't very much for a park of this size, but it's main attraction is the woodland walks. There are large chunks of forest in the park, waterfalls and a good few picturesque little bridges over the river, so it's a very relaxing and peaceful place for a stroll. We got caught in a thunderstorm on our last visit here which is probably a negative but it did provide a bit of excitement. There's also an old mansion in the park which was derelict and thus wonderfully spooky until recently, but it's since been done up and turned into admittedly impressive houses. The Snuff Mill Bridge walkway just at the edge of the park is in my opinion one of the nicest spots in Glasgow. Hardly anyone has heard of it yet I was quite taken aback when I first stumbled upon it. On a nice day it can genuinely feel like you're in a quaint little English village, there's even old Victorian-style street lighting.

No reviews for cross park!!?!…read more Actually I'm not that surprised as its pretty tiny and people use it more to walk through on their journey to get where ever they are going, rather than a park destination that you would actually walk through. Still I actually quite like it. When I used to live in the area I spent a lot of time there with Rogue (the dug) when he was getting some off lead time. Not tonnes to say other than its on a hill, there is lots of grass and trees, dog waters frequent it a lot and..... Well and that's it really. It's a decent, well maintained, but small local park.
