We took my Pop out for his birthday and this restaurant really shined. Even if you go early, you need a reservation. Beautiful, inviting ambiance and kind servers Johnnie and Jane made a great team on a busy Saturday night. The apple and burrata tart, stuffed zucchini flowers, pappardelle bolognese and ravioli were stand outs. Chicken panini and riccota gnudi with short rib ragout were very good. This 35 seat restaurant serves up delicious and creative dishes. Everything including the pasta is made in house by a wonderful chef. We visited for lunch and the chef flawlessly did all the serving, bussing, and cooking. We had the ricotta with honey, ricotta, and pistachios served with a delicious crostini. My only feedback was that we could have used 4 more pieces of crostini (we didn't ask but probably should have). We also ordered the arancini of the day which was fabulous. The pasta dishes we ordered were penne vodka and a tagliatelle with a 3 meat ragu and fresh made ricotta. Both were heavenly and "to die for" dishes. I live so close to this restaurant and pass it almost daily and today I was asking myself why we don't come here more often. Anyone living in the area of Parkway and Scotch Road in Ewing has the array of the most amazing dining in the mercer County area. Whether it's mom or pop or some of the smaller chain like Jersey Mike's, we are eating good!!! And for really really good classic with a twist Italian menus they're only two fabulous restaurants that you can go in and sit down. Bring a great bottle of wine and enjoy the most amazing food and Cattani is definitely one of them. The Chef, Megan Cattani, it's definitely one of the group of very talented young female chefs in our area on both side sides of the river. This is a growing talent in our area, and I am definitely enjoying what these women are doing. Cattani, setback off of Parkway, has a substantial restaurant frontage that clearly states the name of the restaurant, but you have no idea until you walk in what a beautiful restaurant it is. The decor, spotlessly, beautiful, and quite homey is just the place I would like to take a special person to for a very nice lunch or dinner. It's probably one of the best restaurants for sit down dining right here in our Ewing area. The menu is out of this world.... in fact when I go, I have such a hard time deciding ....that I have to order something to take home....it's that delicious!! They also have a "Italian Market" (a refrigerator unit) that has a huge variety of frozen soups and prepared food. This last visit I took home one of the containers of frozen tomato, basil soup, and it was perfect every time I prepared it.... It's such a nice amount of food that I broke it down and put it in the freezer in serving proportions. All I have to do is heat it up and I have an amazing restaurant quality soup.!!! A great idea for someone who's had a long day at work and wants to pick up almost homemade absolutely delicious food for dinner....Cattani's Italian Market will have your family loving you ! I've been sleeping on this update. My original review was very conservative at 4 stars. Probably since this was a little out of the way for me, and being distracted by newer options. Last year I had the time to visit more, and to alert friends to Cattani. My friends were blown away. I won't go into all the details, but I do want to pinpoint a few of my fav recent meals here. In the fall of last year I had an amazing pasta from the weekly specials menu( I check for this page weekly on the website) The fresh pasta was bathed in one of the best slow simmered red wine sauces I've ever had. It contained short rib, veal and pork. There was a similar offering a few weeks ago that I regret not getting. A few days ago I saw a Cornish hen special that I almost skipped due to the butternut squash risotto that came with it. I took a chance and had the best meal of 25! The bird was perfectly cooked and the sweet and cheesy rice along with charred sprouts made this a delight. There was a time I would have called this a hidden gem, but it seems to have been discovered. My recent midweek takeout there( at 1:30) had me fighting about 50 dine in customers for parking and food. Service has always been friendly and you really can't go wrong with anything on the regular menu or specials. This food is cooked with love and skill, I'm looking forward to my next experience there. read more

I would never have known this restaurant existed. You wouldn't think it was a full service restaurant from the name. This restaurant apparently is a "go to" place for some folks in Yardley, PA. That's how we found out about them. They're in a small strip mall with plenty of parking. Our reservations were for 6:30. This is a BYOB place. Jane was our waitress and did a great job. For some reason, they appeared to be short staffed the night we were there. That would be the only reason for not getting 5 stars. We were there for 2 hours. Their portions are very large so bring your appetite. If you're used to eating normal portions, order the half portion. I ordered the Poached Pear and Spinach Salad which was phenomenal. A wonderful light vinaigrette dressing over spinach, dried cranberries, candied pecans and blue cheese crumbles topped with poached pears. That was only the appetizer. For my main course, I had the Mushroom Piada which is similar to a panini. Came with a sidecar basket of seasoned pita chips. Very tasty, but also a bit messy. My wife ordered the half portion Vodka Rigatoni which she said was delicious. Yet there was enough for her to take half home. read more

I recently had the distinct pleasure of eating at Cattani's for the first time with two friends that were back home visiting from out of town. It's been many years since I've had home made pasta and theirs brought back my best memories of the real thing. The ravioli were beyond delicious. Our waitress/hostess was a sweet young lady who answered many of our questions about the restaurant's family history and treated us like old friends rather than patrons. We loved the atmosphere and charm inside with a picture history on the walls. You can be sure that I'll be back soon with the anticipation of another great meal and service. read more

Nice spot for some good food. Service is friendly and fast. Place is small so if you're going to eat there, you want to make sure they have seats available. We had take out, and all of the food was very good. You pay a little bit extra, but you get that fresh high quality ingredients. Not to mention the great flavors of everything. The short rib sandwich was delicious as was the Italian hoagie and the meatballs. The chips that come with it are a little odd, sort of like fried wonton skins that are seasoned. I would prefer regular potato chips or the side salad which one of our diners did get. Just a personal choice there. Definitely be back. read more

My wife and I love trying new places and wanted to give this place a shot on our anniversary. We were given a table in the corner of the room. We both ordered the same thing from the menu. Instead of bread they gave us two stale very crispy dark brown type garlic wedges..We got the spinach pear salad which was very good. We also shared a portion of truffle mac & cheese, which wasn't the greatest texture very grainy not real cheesy but a good truffle flavor. For our main dish, we ordered the raviolis stuffed with cheese. It was very strange as it came with sliced apples, and the flavor / sauce was very very sweet almost like a dessert -overpowering the dish. The dinners were supposed to come with a side salad but we were offered to take home- however the waitress never did bring them for us to take and we had forgotten that she was going to pack them up for us...There was only one waitress and although she was very sweet, it was choppy service. So I came across these guys looking for a good catering company for a graduation party, food looked good, solid reviews, so I reached out 2 months in advance. Attempt 1: I call and ask to speak to someone about catering, I mean the word catering appears in their name, and the guy says not today, too busy. Ok, I go to their site, contact them there, crickets weeks later. I hit them up on instagram, no response. I physically go there in person, figure I try out the food and talk to them about catering, they wouldn't seat me despite having several free tables. Explained I wanted to discuss a large catering order, couldn't be bothered, told me prob not today. Wonder if it's because I wasn't the same color as everyone else there... not sure. Can't conceive of anything more rude. I get ur food is prob good, but your gonna act like your Michelin rated and not let me sit down because I don't have a resy? Really? Despite you having space? Cattani has some of the best food in Mercer county. I've dined in and gotten take out on several occasions. Some of my favorite dishes are crabby mac, poached pear salad, and pollo gemelli. I usually go as a party of two and order a salad and two half orders of pasta and have plenty left over. The ambiance is very cute inside. My only regret is not having tried this restaurant sooner. We never have room for it but their desserts are stand outs as well. read more

My husband I had dinner here last week. I've heard great things about this place and it did not disappoint! We shared the burrata appetizer and omg it was delicious! Wished I had a little more bread. We also shared the sangria salad and it was huge and fresh and very tasty! Our main course was the vodka penne. Yum! We took home a slice of Nutella tiramisu. I'm not a Nutella fan but I love tiramisu. It was ok. I was surprised that the restaurant was smaller than I expected. But the decor was very nice. I wished the lights were dimmed a bit. Our server was pleasant and helpful. Seemed to be the only person waiting on tables, running food and handling takeout orders (of which there were many). He did a great job! We will be back for sure! As you can tell by the small amounts of reviews I share, it takes something quite special for me to take the time to write about it. I cannot agree more with the other review that this is the BEST food in Mercer County. The limited seating and short hours add to the charm of an already cozy atmosphere. They don't turn tables, so you never feel rushed and Kat [the waitress] goes above and beyond to make sure you are always well taken care of. I wish I could try every item on the menu, but the specials each night make it hard for me to even order from the menu because they are always just that - special! My absolute favorite is the Burrata & Prosciutto appetizer. It's all about the fig jam! My last time there I had the Bloody Mary Crab Stack, and I wrote on their Facebook page that it should be a permanent menu item because it was SO GOOD!! Do yourself a favor and try this place out. Cattani Catering & Kitchen on Parkway Avenue, Ewing, NJ, is an exceptional Italian house with small dining room and five stool counter, turning out creative and delicious dishes for those lucky enough to know it is there. I stopped in for a late lunch last week, grabbing a spinner overlooking the kitchen. Only one table was occupied by women in bonnets, although a few people came in to pick up take out orders. Sherry was running the floor, and cheerily brought me the clipboard menu along with a cool copper mule mug of water and lemon. Prices were on the high side, but given the description of the food and Sherry's enthusiasm for each of them, I accepted that this was a "budget be damned" moment. I ordered the chicken milanese sandwich with side salad. The order in, I then saw Ms. Cattani herself putting my meal together. She waved and said hello while cheffing for me. Turns out she is basically a self taught uber foodie, who decided to open her open shop after working for other restaurants for several years. She is self taught and obviously a great student of her craft. My lunch arrived on a thin wood plank. Minimalist, but strikingly presented. A feast for the eyes, and ultimately, the stomach. The chicken breast was pounded into a thin steak, lightly breaded in Italian crumbs and pan fried, with marinated peperonata, parmesan and aged balsamic drip on a crusty seeded "rustic" torpedo roll. It was delicious. No one off, this. Each element made a contribution to the overall work of art. I like milanese dishes, and even prepare them at home. Still, none are as interesting and tasty as this, and it was just a sandwich! What would it have been as a stand alone fully plated dinner? Don't know, but a week later I am still thinking of when to find out. All the while, Sherry was seeing to the incoming phone orders and refilling my water mug during the gaps in the calls. Service was friendly and informative. I was well cared for. This was a superior lunch from an unexpected source. Surprise was perhaps the tastiest part of the dish. read more

A true diamond in the rough. I've driven past this strip mall probably dozens of times, and never had an idea that this DELICIOUS restaurant was nestled inside. The service is welcoming, friendly, and forthright with complimenting your dinner choices - evidently we ordered really well, according to our waitress! They were attentive when it matters, but not rushing you out - we dined on a weeknight, so I can't comment if the place is different on a weekend, but we were totally content to sit and chat. The atmosphere is adorable - intimate and clean lines, copper mugs for drinking, and simple table runners - a perfect spot. The menu is beautiful, plenty of options ranging from simple salads, to pastas, and complex seafood dishes. I jumped at the special of the day, pan seared sea scallop served over a mushroom risotto, with pea puree (I believe?). The scallops were massive, buttery, and beautifully flavored - and there were 5 of them, WAY too many to eat for dinner . Hooray for leftovers! As you can see from their Yelp page, they're quite known for the arancini - so we dutifully shared an order as a starter. The arancini of they day was mushroom and ricotta, served over a honey and ricotta mixture. This was pure bliss. The honey ricotta was smooth and creamy, the ricotta was fried enough to have a crunch on the outside, giving way to a smooth creamy mushroom filling - best arancini I've ever tasted! Going for the hat trick, we decided to share the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. I have to admit, I definitely ate more than my fair share of this dessert - yum yum yum yummmm! *I went back and forth between 4 and 5 stars, truthfully. Originally I was going to take off a star for some of the non-food related issues, but once I started thinking about the dishes, and how phenomenal our meal was, it was definitely 5 stars through and through. There was one glaring issue - unwanted fly dinner guests. We were seated in a cozy corner, and there was a fly that flitted about our table throughout the entirety of the meal. This was really annoying, but a simple fix with hidden fly traps somewhere. Be sure to check out the hours before heading over - this isn't a Saturday night spot, but whenever you do dine here - you'll leave smiling! read more

Bar none best overall meal I've had in years. This little unassuming restaurant has amazing decor, amazing staff and a quality menu. I got the homemade gnochi and braised beef ragout which was outstanding. I really don't know what else they could have done to make the meal better. I selected Cattani's to host my retirement party and it was the best decision. Communication with Jane, the coordinator, was easy and quick. Chef Meghan prepared a delicious meal for 28, and our wait staff, Donna and Robert, assured everything went smoothly. This was a first visit for many of my guests and several were already making plans to return for another meal. We starting with a classic garden salad, then the pasta course of penne vodka (so flavorful!) and penne Pomodoro. Next, the champagne chicken and flounder Milanese - delicious! But don't be intimidated by the excellent food and service. Cattani's is a cozy restaurant and great place to go for a relaxing meal. Stellar. It's a small operation and you may need to wait for the food a bit longer than some of your bigger chain restaurants but it's worth it. Everything we've ordered has been delicious and was clearly made with love and care. The menu has plenty of classics (done well) but also includes a lot of stuff you never knew you wanted and somehow can't live without once you've tasted it. The Carbonara mac and cheese is a sinful delight and needs to be in my life in some way moving forward. The pricing is great too- we felt like we got away with a crime considering how reasonable everything was. Make a reservation. I'm not Italian, but the staff definitely brings not only the recipes and flavors from Italy, but also hospitality and friendliness. This is really a hidden gem (for those who don't live or work nearby) of a relatively small restaurant that serves superbly rich and delicious Italian food. Walking into the restaurant felt like you are walking into a warm cucina in someone's house, with photos of the grandparents, nieces and nephews and great-grandparents of the owner dotting the walls. The invitation is extended once we tried the appetizers -- crustini surrounded by a trio of dips (truffle hummus, rosemary & garlic puree so fresh you can almost inhale the rosemary aroma through your tongue, and spicy, smooth 'nduja). But I went absolute gaga over the chips, which deliciously crispy texture competes for your attention with the herbs peppering the surface (both won). My lunch is half portion -- which is way more than enough for one person -- of Cecilia's Stracinati, which is, albeit a bit salty from the bacon and cheese, promises to transport you to Umbria where it originated. The chef is a young lady who cooks all the food herself, so expect a reasonable wait during furious lunch time, but you'll be well rewarded by the heavenly dishes that come out of her kitchen. It's worth the drive and I will definitely come again to try other homestyle Italian dishes! read more

Food was absolutely fantastic but stick to takeout, we had a party of 5, server from the start just acted as if we were an inconvenience then came out as we were still eating saying the table we were sitting at was reserved in about 30 minutes (mind you the restaurant was empty) didn't offer to move us or make any accommodation instead just implied we needed to hurry and leave didn't even get the opportunity for coffee and desert, very rude. 4.5 stars for a great business (late) lunch. Friendly and professional service for a group of six. The meat and cheese plate and burrata plate started us out and each offered sizable portions and good quality. The burrata was especially tasty: very creamy and excellent. I then had the pear salad and loved it, lightly sweet dressing with generous pear chunks and some kind of nuts mixed in as well. The penne vodka entree was yummy and the server steered me right to order the smaller size, which turned out to be a good portion that I finished. We were all quite full by this point, but desserts have a strong pull and the limoncello cake called my name. It was mostly light and airy but could have been a bit more tart and lemony. Tasteful and relaxed decor, a comfortable atmosphere for friends or coworkers to gather for regular gatherings and special events. The server - Tracy, I think? - was fantastic: warm, efficient, dispensing good menu advice, and leaving us feeling well taken care of. Fair prices, too. I'm not local to Ewing Township or Trenton or New Jersey in general. Here on business, I used Yelp to "magic 8-ball" somewhere to eat, and of course there are many many Italian restaurants even for this small outlier of West Trenton. (Compared to where I'm from, anyway.) Saw a great rating, good reviews, price was reasonable, so I looked at the menu. Not gonna lie, the fact Cattani's has four types of Mac-n-cheese in their own section of the menu... well then. I honed in on the carbonara Mac, so I made my way on over. The joint was cozy and well-appointed; you can date night or drop in without feeling out of place. The two gracious and boisterous ladies working the front were Amazing and Friendly and Funny and Patient and knew every item on the menu. (Amy and I agreed that we don't eat BBQ in New Jersey/tri-State and we don't really have down-home Italian in Texas.) The Chef was also laid back and fun to watch from my vantage point at the counter. Anyway, I ordered the carbonara Mac with a side house salad... I think my soul left my body. I would happily swim in and eat all the carbonara Mac until I exploded, without a single regret. I'd do it all again if I was reincarnated. I'm serious about Mac-n-cheese; it's my stranded-on-a-deserted-island food for the rest of my life. So yeah... Cattani's creation is that good. Service, price, Da FOOD.... trifecta.
