We did an excursion through WE Barcelona, so I didn't know which facilities we would be visiting until we got on the bus. We started at Can Bas, which is primarily a winery, so no cava there. We took a 4x4 to Pere Ventura and then were led onto a detailed tour of the history of the cava-rie, and the extensive bottles stored in their 3 story wine cellar. There was also a very nice surprise for us during our visit (won't spoil it). The tasting was amazing. These bottles are beautiful and they were displayed like jewelry pieces---lit up from the bottom, just stunning. We had 3 white cavas and 1 rose. I was able to order wines and cavas to ship to the uS for a flat fee of 89 euros. I ended up ordering 6 bottles or wine and cavas and will receive them when I get back. The tastings were paired with tapas such as cheese, jamon and chocolates. Overall, I highly recommend Pere Ventura. It's a beautiful winery with a very educational tour and delicious tastings.

It was a pleasant drive through Catalan's countryside as there is no urban sprawl or suburban areas. Once we got to ArtCava, we were given a glass of one of their Cavas, which is Barcelona's version of Champagne or Italy's Prosecco. We also got to tour the grounds and the winery structure itself, including the cellar and bottling area. After each presentation by the two (2) hosts, we were able to try other types of Cava. There are only four (4) grape types. Please note: Have a light snack like steak and eggs, crackers or nuts because you will be tasting at least four (4) types. We were really impressed by the Brute Rose that we got some of those bottles to go. :) I highly recommend this convenient tour, because by the time you get back to your hotel - it's time for a fine dinner!! We had asked our guide to take us to small boutique wineries that are doing something special and this place certainly fit the bill. They are located in the little town that is the center of Cava production and just up the street from the larger producers like Frexinet. You need to have an appointment to visit and the cost for the tasting is 18€. We learned a bit about Cava product during the tour deep into the Caves well below the surface that was finished with a pleasant seated tasting of a number of styles of their sparkling wine. The caves seem to go on forever with bottles as far as the eyes can see. Our guide clearly explained everything about the production process and their different types of cava and allowed plenty of time for questions. They were the only tour that allowed us to take pictures in the caves (without the flash of course). At the end you can taste about six different varieties. They also brought out some tasty snacks: a local sausage, olives, and crackers. It was a lot for a snack! I bought six bottles and wanted to buy more. Out of all the cava I tasted on this trip, Gramona was my favorite. The cava is so creamy. Their ice wine is also delicious. You get to taste one (Riesling on our visit) during the tasting, but I also inquired about the Gewürztraminer since I love this grape. She let us taste it too. They were so different, but I loved both and took a bottle of each home. They also have a Jasmine wine that is unique and lovely. If you're on the fence about which place to tour, choose Gramona. Others think it's delicious as well as we even saw Disfrutar serving it up a few days later during the first course for some tables. This is a fabulous cava and an excellent tour!

Georgina greeted us upon arrival and had us wait a moment as she wrapped up a large bus tour. We had the most incredible time as Georgina served us 4 samplings of their top Cavas on their incredible terrace with vistas you cannot believe. We then sampled a 5th option as compliments of the winery, which was one of the bottles we purchased, It is super delish! Overall, this would be a place to visit again if visiting this region of Spain and you should definitely arrange a tour/tasting if in the region.
