Had dinner here New Years Eve. Was excellent. Tender filet, tasty lobster and crab. Awesome soda bread and honey butter. And the bread pudding is to die for. Great service and relaxed atmosphere. Looking forward to returning the next time we are in Wyoming. read more

Cavalryman Steakhouse is incredible. I didn't really know what to expect, but the service, ambiance and FOOD was absolutely amazing. This is a perfect date night spot, with tons of steak options including a rotating grass fed feature, a perfectly cooked salmon dish (served with smoke ), and the best wine selection you'll find in town. I can't wait for another excuse to come back, I had the salmon this time and next I want to try their half chicken. My girlfriend had the 12oz ribeye feature and said it was fantastic as well. Do yourself a favor and try the Globe for dessert. 10/10. read more

Don't overlook this place. The bison ribeyes my boyfriend and I got this evening we're the best steaks we've ever had and we're serious carnivores from the Midwest. The place isn't the hottest, newest joint in town, but the food was outstanding and the service was too, even though our server, Elizabeth was slammed. One server, Shelby went to a local brewery and created a delightful summer beer with just the right hints of strawberry... it's tasty as hell. Get a glass while you can! I had the French onion soup-rich and fab! He had Caesar salad, they didn't skimp on the dressing-in a good way. They ran out of soda bread and served us the fried mushrooms-tasty too! My husband, daughter, and I went out to dinner on a Friday night. The service was HORRID. They all kept complaining about how busy they were and it wasn't their fault. We waited almost two hours for our food. When we inquired about it to our waitress, who incidentally was also the manager, she was really rude. We decided to leave and asked if we could pay for the food and drinks we had consumed. She came running over and said we had to pay for our drinks. We said we were planning on that. Then she came back a few minutes later and said our food had been plated and we had to pay for it. We said we were not going to, we were leaving before that happened. She said then I will call the police. We said, go right ahead. As she said that, my daughter, thinking we were being arrested and all going to jail, started bawling. So that we didn't traumatize my daughter anymore, we ended up just paying for the food and getting it to go... which took forever again, so I suspect she was lying about the food being ready. If my daughter hadn't been with us, I would have gladly spoken to the police. Our table didn't get bussed, we never got drink refills, my husband had to go to the bar to get a second beer, our Brie was cold, and needless to say the service sucked. read more

This place is off the beaten path, but worth every extra minute (less than 10) to get there. The staff is friendly and will warn you if something isn't going to be the best -I asked for grilled vegetables at 8:30 and my server warned me that they would be mush. I went with steamed and they still had texture :) My steak was delicious and even though it was past closing time when I finished my entree, they still offered dessert as happily prepared my créme brûlée to go. Ordered via Doordash while staying in town. Ordered the 12oz Ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables, the baked french onion soup, a house salad with champagne vinaigrette and my partner ordered the bison with shrimp and crab and the creme brulee. I really enjoyed my food. My partner said his was good, but the portion was too small and he wishes he would have ordered more of it. He also thought the creme brulee was too sweet. I would definitely order from here again because my food was fantastic. He said he would order something more filling next time. Overall, 5 stars. read more

The positives: our table was ready as reserved. The hostess was friendly and amiable. In fact, our server and everyone that we interacted with were friendly, attentive and very welcoming. That's it. The not so good and the really bad: let's start with the Arnold Palmer's, they had little ice and no flavor, it didn't taste like lemonade, nor like tea, it was brownish water. We then ordered appetizers: fried, battered mushrooms and the Rocky Mountain oysters were promptly served when ordered. The batter on some of the mushroom were undercooked and it was a gooey mess. Otherwise, they were ok, just ok. The Rocky Mountain oysters were just way over-cooked. The openers: soda bread with "honey butter", I must ask, was this a vegetable shortening honey butter? The chunks of white cubes in the "house-made, butter-blend" made me wonder. The salad was good, but the French onion soup served with a slice of cheese had a weak broth, much like the Arnold Palmers. For the entrees: One guest in our party had the Roughrider throwback, which was served swimming in a pool of chimichurri sauce, smothered in sweet potato mash, and topped with crab and lobster. The chimichurri was tasty but served warm- the parsley base of the chimi relish doesn't do so well with heat. The sweet potato mash was odd tasting within the pool of acidic chimichurri. Finally, the seafood topping had zero flavor. The second guest had the 18 oz prime rib with polenta and the house vegetables. The beef was just ok, the creamy horseradish was a bit too liquidy, but it was nicely aromatic. The polenta was way over cooked and there was no doubt, the vegetables were from frozen- they served 8+ oz of frozen and over cooked zucchini. The third person in our party had the 8 oz filet wrapped in bacon, and I would bet you a dollar to a hole in a donut, that this too was frozen and from Sam's club. In fact, most of the food appears to be from frozen. All of the house vegetables were yuck, and even the bake potato was just ok. We finished off our meal with the chocolate globe, which was cute, but it was just too fake. The crème brûlée, was passable, but I was intrigued with how they achieved such a thick sugar caramel topping? Our bill for 3 people was $200 plus. We could have gone to the Texas Roadhouse for a much, much better meal where they don't pretend to be anything more than what and who they are. This Calvaryman Steakhouse had us duped from the beginning. They do not offer good food, not for any price. Disappointed, but life will go on. 2 stars only because the personnel were nice. But they too need training. The server asked if we wanted a plate removed, we said yes and she said, "well hand it to me." We couldn't help but laugh. read more

if I could do negative stars I would. We had a 6:30 reservation on 06/09/2023. we weren't greeted at the front desk. it took quite some time to get seated, after all, they have to get the water poured before they seat you. We were a part of 10, again with that reservation. They weren't ready for us but we finally got seated. then we waited about 15 minutes or so and f8nally they took a drink order. Returned many times as they were out of ginger beer, didn't have olives or olive juice for a dirty martini. then 9 of us got ou drinks, and my sis in law waited for her drink which after 30 minutes and everyone else done with their drinks, her appeared. She was unhappy, and right y so, she didn't accept the drink. finally, an hour in, they took food orders, well almost everyones. It was almost 8 when food came. Some of us were so frustrated, we ordered salads. waited for checks when we were finished and finally had to ask for them so we could pay and leave. I will never go there again. We were celebrating an early birthday, and June 9 happened to be my recently departed parents 67th anniversary. They knew this info when the reservation was made, but that sure didn't help organize the service. Then to add an 18% gratuity for a large group! Ridiculou. Negative Stars for this is warranted. Disappointed! My last night in Laramie, we decided to give another Laramie restaurant a chance to shine. We picked this one, since we had eaten here before. We ordered French onion soup, calamari appetizer, breaded mushrooms, prime ribs, and beef tenderloin. The server brought the Irish soda bread. The bread was ok, I guess. We never had it before and I guess we just didn't like Irish soda bread, at least as it was prepared here. Served with butter and honey. The French onion soup was so salty, it was inedible. The calamari had a spicy, tangy flavor but were just limp for being deep-fried. So-so. The breaded mushrooms had a very strange coating, almost like pork rinds. The breading essentially melted in your mouth (not in a good way) and it harbored a lot of grease. 3 of the 4 steaks were prepared perfectly medium. My son's tenderloin was bordering on well done, so we had to say something. It took so long for my son to receive his dinner, we were all almost finished, so he watched us eat. The baked potatoes were overly done and dry. The steak fries were average, as can be expected from steak fries. The server apologized and informed us that the manager would comp desserts for all of us for the trouble. That took quite some time for desserts to arrive and it was late. The server said the manager was preparing the whipped cream from scratch for us. The cheesecake was quite good actually! It was about 3 1/2 inches tall! The bread pudding - meh. Just tasted like a pile of dense bread with a sugar sauce. We left most of that behind and finished the cheesecakes. We can do better at home. Laramie restaurants, shape up! With all that good beef there, this meal should have been a home run, particularly at a steak house known to have a decent reputation. read more

I quite like the $10.00 Wednesday night UW special prime rib sliders. And great lounge service too.

I have only had one bad experience here since the management changed a couple years ago. I am so happy that this place went back to the old way of doing things, for the most part. Bac in the day this restaurant had a salad bar and your meal included salad, soup, fried mushrooms, an entree, and dessert of your choice(including alcoholic). But over the years this place changed hands a bunch of times and at one point was charging over $20 bucks for a long noodle with canned alfredo on it. YUCK! But, the new owners have revived the place and I really enjoy it. You get bread and the entree servings are a good size with two sides and soup or salad. Also, the famous fried mushrooms are a VERY reasonable price for an appetizer. The wine and beer selection is great. Also the desserts ALWAYS look fantastic but it is never something I order cause I eat too much of the other courses. I like this place and will continue to support their business when I visit my family back home. read more

We made reservations after a UW football game. Didn't know that on game nights, they only have a buffet. Waitress was nice and the chef came out and went over food items that were gluten free for my husband. It went downhill from there. The food is cold. We complained, they said they stirred the dishes and they should be warm now to try again. Still no luck. Very expensive for a buffet and cold meal. Over $175 for three of us. No special drinks. The desserts were good, the only thing good out of the whole evening. Won't be returning! read more

Just spent New Year's Eve here and can't say it was good. We made reservations but were not told it was a buffet dinner. I never expect much of this steakhouse (vegetarian here) but they make a decent Impossible burger and sometime polenta. The buffet could have been ok if the food had been hot but all the cooked veggies were cold and sad. The pita had been grilled to within an inch of its life and there was no hummus for it. The only good thing on the menu was the battered mushrooms. The service was good but as usual we had to try a couple times to find a wine that they actually stocked. And when they finally brought the wine we realized it wasn't the right one. We'd already started drinking it so that's on us, I guess. read more

I came to this steakhouse while visiting in Wyoming, and it was delish! I was rather surprised, I wasn't expecting it to be that good! As you can see in my pictures I almost licked my plate clean. I ordered the Striploin steak, I added Caramelized onions and grilled shrimp. Even the vegetables were straight FIRE!!!! This plate cost $27 (something) + $2 (onions) and $7 (shrimp) these are optional add ons, and there are several others to choose from. Around $40 for this plate is well priced! I've had steaks up to $150, and this steak was very delish for that price range. I would definitely come here again. I also used a groupon and was able to get $100 for only $70, which worked well because I came with my fiancé, and we both ordered the same thing + desert and drinks! read more

I heard this place was way out of town, but it's like a 4 minute drive from downtown and in a cool setting. Service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant space feels authentic Wyoming. Steak was cooked perfectly and had tons of delicious marbling, the sides were delicious, and I like that there are a few healthy options if you're looking for a little variety. I love getting the steak toppings so each time I eat there I can get some new flavors. Can't wait to go back. And for those that mention price...it's not a chain and the quality is worth the price. Plus the burgers look amazing (haven't tried yet) so there are affordable options on the menu. read more

Horrible experience. We tried to eat here tonight. We arrived when they opened at 4pm. We were seated promptly and we're one of only two tables. The service started out pretty well but then just tanked. We ordered the French onion soup, prime rib and potatoes. When the soup came out it was cold so we had to send it back. 25 minutes or so passed and we had to ask someone to find our server as we were out of tea and hadn't seen our meal. The server came out and filled our tea but didn't mention the food. At 5 pm our prime rib and potatoes were delivers and they too were cold. We had to call the server back to let her know. She explained that the manager was out and that they were just busy. There were a total of 5 tables with people at them - including ours. We told our server we just wanted to pay for our tea and appetizer and she went to get someone for us. Interestingly enough the manager came to our table. He apologized and asked what he could do to make it right but. We didn't want to take any more chances so we just preferred to go. The best think he could have done at that point was to say ok, the appetizer is on the house sorry for everything. He blew that. We literally drove hours to get here and are so disappointed in this experience. I would not go back to this restaurant ever. read more

Great atmosphere with a fire place, wood floors and tables, and western hunting decor. Cloth napkins, paper table toppers, nice plates and silverware. Our waitress was great. My Sheri-something drink was awesome; orange liquor mule. The risotto is amazing!! Green beans weren't cooked enough for me (too much crunch still a little too bright green. I like them to fold a little). The prime rib was perfectly cooked medium well. Loss of 1 star Hostess was not at the hostess stand and when we saw the staff chatting by the bar, no one came over promptly to greet us. The kitchen misplated my prime rib with my mothers so we had to trade at the table. The waitress did notice right away and initiated the fix. She was embarrassed. Today I was in the area and saw this litle quaint restauraunt and decided it was time to try it out. It was unfortunatly a dissapointment. With poor service and food it was a no brainer to give this place a 1 star. I placed an order for a budweiser and the server acknowleged the request and proceeded to take my order. I asked for the 16 ounce new york strip with french fries and collard greens. Yet, the budweiser never appeared and was quite a dissapointment to be ignored. The steak was terrible, cooked raw when it was supposed to be medium rare, mealy and unseasoned and quite difficult to cut and consume. The grill marks did give the steak a nice appearance, but overall it made the steak feel fake and was an uneeded touch. The fries were reminiscant that of oven baked frozen fries and with no salt and flavor it really was pretty bad, as far as the greens went they were as if they were picked fresh from the garden and lightly heated then served. Which means they were raw and pretty much inedible. Overall I will still give this place another chance as so I can try their other offerings and see if they can offer other items that would satisfy me better. But its going to be a while... read more

Hubbs and I frequent Laramie for business trips. We almost always stay and eat at the same places, well, because they are great places. Last night, he took me to Cavalryman for my first time. It is a little out of the Laramie city limits--but not far--probably at max a 10 min. drive from Grand Ave., (use your GPS) but well worth it. Cavalryman is an authentic steakhouse (right on the grounds of Ft. Sanders) The air smelled yummy as soon as we pulled into the parking lot. We were greeted and seated right away. The decor is old west/and as the name suggests--cavalry and fort themed. While we were waiting for our server, Shelby (she also deserves 5 stars!), we heard great old-county music (which we both love) playing throughout and at the right level to hold a private conversation. I excused myself to the restroom, and upon return found that my hubbs had ordered the talked-about Bloody Mary for me. Shelby was very patient with me trying to order as everything on the menu sounded fabulous. In the meantime, she brought the soda bread with honey butter and not long after, my Bloody Mary. Bottom line is the place is an experience with delicious food. I suggest ordering any of the steaks--I ordered the Grilled Steak Sampler and my husband ordered the Sirloin--all grilled to perfection. At the end, we couldn't resist the Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet. There is a history here as well with the Equality Wall and remnants found around the site of old belt buckles and bullet making tools. If you are in Laramie, WY for a night or more, put the Cavalryman on your to-do list. You'll be glad you did! :) read more

I had a wonderfully delightful experience this evening at this great restaurant. Let my begin by saying how fortunate I was to enjoy Chase as my server. She was lovely, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly beyond any compliment I can offer ! She is a tremendous asset to this fine establishment. I delighted in taking pictures of the many historic photos they have on display. Chase was gracious in describing many of the photos....speaking about the wonderful history the restaurant offers. My filet was perfectly prepared along with the accompanying vegetables & salad. My overall experience was first-class.....A+. I highly recommend this fabulous restaurant. First time, will not return. I called and made a reservation. Had to wait, was told I would have to go to the bar and sit a a hightop because several large parties showed, what was the reservation for? I decided to wait for a table,After I was seated it took 20 minutes before anyone checked on me. I ordered a filet, baked potato and salad, took another 20 minutes to get a drink. Then a hour and a half for my meal! The steak looked like a charcoal lump, and tasted the same. Other people were having the same problem, several people around me were starting to get frustrated to as I could here hem complaining. Never seen a place like this. read more

This place was amazing! They have all kinds of historical pictures all over the restaurant where you can scan the barcode and read history of the photographs. Staff was over-the-top friendly and we spent a lot of time talking to everyone that works there. Everyone was incredibly friendly! We had drinks and the Buffalo meatballs which were awesome. Don't let the outside fool you! We weren't sure what to expect when we drove up to the nondescript building with no real exterior features, but once inside...WOW! Fantastic entrees, flavorful steak sampler, excellent coffee fresh brewed, plus an original recipe soda bread (we had to order another loaf/it was THAT good) with honey butter that was subtle for a change (not too cloyingly sweet). The prime rib came as ordered and did not need any sauce or extras. Negatives? Too much to eat...could not THINK of dessert! The knob creek with bitters was a little strong. Biggest positives? Aside from the excellent quality of everything (including the wait staff), it was all very very reasonably priced. We enjoyed a wonderful anniversary dinner at The Cavalryman last week. The dining room was very clean, the tables were appropriately "distanced" and the wait staff was excellent. My prime rib was exactly as I ordered as was my husband's filet. It is true we were early for dinner, but I was very pleased and impressed by our experience. We will return again! read more

The appetizers were good. But the service wasnt great. I hate to leave a bad review but this place was really disappointing. I ordered a filet medium rare with a sweet potato. When it came out, the side was wrong, the steak was rare and everything was cold as if it had sat for a long time. The waitress took it back and brought back the cold meal with the correct side. I had the ribeye and my wife had prime rib at dinner last night. This restaurant was recommended by a couple of people in town as homey old fashion atmosphere and good steaks. We made reservations, and found a good crowd, due to graduation activities upon arrival. The staff was friendly but a little overwhelmed with the crowd. There was a delay in delivery of our beverages and our meal took a while. Not too bad given the crowd. The menu choices are steakhouse broad, with a large number of toppings. Most steaks come with soup or salad and a side. Our meal also included a squash zucchini medley. We declined an appetisser. The soup and salad are rather small by current standards. The meats were cooked to proper temp, but had little seasoning and not much flavor. Maybe that is due to the large choice of toppings to add flavor? We found the food to be generally bland and lacking seasoning. Including the vegetables, soups, etc. My wife's baked potato was room temp. We asked for a replacement which was quickly delivered. It was hardly warm enough to melt butter. Finally, the cost. Prices are high given the overall quality and quantity of delivery. I did not have any satisfaction of value provided. Consistency may be an issue given the few nights they are open. As to atmosphere, there was no fire in the hearth. No wood available we were told. We found meals at other locations while in town to be of higher quality and value. read more

This high-end steakhouse was recommended by a local and is the real deal. Everything was satisfying, beginning with the battered mushrooms brought to the table as an appetizer. I went with the bison steak since I'd never tried this before. No regrets, a well-seasoned and nicely cooked piece of meat. The menu also offers a filet, porterhouse, rib-eye, new york strip, and prime rib. Seafood choices include lobster, crab legs, and trout, though I didn't have a chance to try any of those. There are a plethora of sides to choose from. Yes, that's right, a plethora. Our server raved about the parmesan mashed potatoes, which I scraped up every last bit. If you're really hungry, upgrade to the "General" and you get to make a trip to the well-appointed salad bar. Finished the meal with a great piece of cheesecake. Added bonus if you're a smoker - the restaurant is outside Laramie city limits, so you can enjoy a cigarette at the bar area after your meal. The atmosphere is interesting as this building was previously a schoolhouse and a brothel (at different times of course). read more

How disappointing!!! Took visiting family to the Cav upon positive Yelp reviews and was underwhelmed by the food and overwhelmed by the prices! Reviewers have good points: nice wine and beer selection, historic dining room, mashed potatoes were pretty good (though I expected much more from the rave reviews) and the beet salad was delicious! Now for the negatives... We ate outside and the "patio" could really use some decorating. Contained three patio tables, two with umbrellas- one was broken- and some rope lights wrapped around the boundary fence. No ambiance, and quite lame compared to the inside. A few more plants, music, and some more decorative tables and it would have been cute! By the state of the patio, my party decided outdoor dining is not something that Laramites are really interested in (not too common at other establishments in town). We ordered the special St. Louis BBQ ribs served with corn bread and mashed potatoes, and the skirt steak (medium) with mashed potatoes. Ribs were OK- sauce was very tomato-ey. Almost like spiced ketchup, the diners agreed they would not order again. The racks were quite small and not very tender. Could have used some more cooking time. Skirt steak was marinated well, but small portion size and arrived at table well done. Server was pleasant and provided good service, but as weather turned threatening she dropped a "S*IIIIIIIIT" when we mentioned we may have to move inside if it began to rain. I felt it was extremely inappropriate and unprofessional. I don't think I will be returning to the Cavalryman. read more
