I took my girlfriend (now wife) there and we had a wonderful time, with one exception. And after two years I'm still talking about him. Machos, the half draft horse. He misbehaved, annoyed the horse they said was his girlfriend (she had other ideas when she tried to kick him and he almost fell) and I have NEVER had to be that rough on a horse's mouth. The place was great but unless you're over 250 pounds, refuse Machos. He is more of an ass than a horse. A friend had a similar experience with Machos prior to mine. Say no to Machos! read more

Great time this morning on a 2 hour ride. We had a group of 6 from our hotel. Allison or "Big Al" was our guide. She shared good tips with all to keep us safe. They know all the horses and personalities to put them in the right order. I had slow Seven and he was great. He did walk at his own pace but took commands well but I didn't have to direct him much anyway. He never tried to eat and was just a very good horse. I like they have helmets on offer no extra cost. After getting dumped in Iceland on a horse I do like the helmet idea. Beautiful scenery and since the horse was well behaved could take it all in. Only walking on this tour which was fine. It is nice they have a set spot to take photos of you on your horse with a nice background. I would come again if I come back to town. read more

Incredible, staff was nice and gave water to everyone who forgot a bottle. They had fake outfits to we're for photos, and let you pet all the horses!!! Are guide was incredible she helped me guide my amazing dream horse. Only concern is the welfare of the animals, it is hot out so it is probably hard on the animals. We went on a 1 hour trail ride with Cave Creek Trail Rides this morning and it could not have gone better! We had a large group of mainly 11-12 year old girls, most of whom had not been on a horse before. The guides were professional, clear, and kind with their directions. They took the time to answer any questions we had and made sure we were comfortable before we set off on the trail. In my group, we had Makenna and Cora as our guides and they were absolutely fantastic. Our other group had 2 men as their guides and said there were also fantastic. The bathrooms are port-a-potties with a portable sink, but that goes with being out in the middle of the desert and no one really minded. The 1 hour trail ride was perfect for the age range and skill level. The girls had so much fun and all of them asked if we could come back and do this activity again. I really loved how along with the trail ride, the guides asked and answered questions throughout the ride as well as pointing out wildlife and an old mine. We saw a coyote but it was a safe distance away. Highly recommend and I'm sure we'll be back! read more

This is our second time horseback riding in phoenix and Cave Creek gave the opportunity for riding through more exciting terrain as opposed to a flat surface. My sisters, mom and I are intermediate-advanced riders who always try to go on a trail ride when we are on vacation. Cave Creek was the top rated place. They have different trail options for different levels of riders. We booked the sunset ride and all though the weather was dreary and we did not see any sunset, we were just happy to get to go on the trail. The staff had great communication still about keeping us updated with the weather. The horses are well kept and well trained, easy for non-experienced riders as most of them tend to just follow the leader and don't need much guidance. The place even offers cowboy boots and hats you can wear which is very cute, but I think it's important to encourage riders to wear helmets, especially with the rocks. My 81 yr old grandpa was so excited to ride horses again in Arizona, but unfortunately got a bad cramp in his leg towards the end of the ride. It got to a point where he needed to emergently get off the horse. Our guide, Eva, was quick to respond, knew when to ask for help, & was extremely kind through the whole ordeal. She never once made my grandpa feel like a burden and stood by our side the entire time as we walked him down the rest of the trail. This was an outstanding experience ! The folks running the show were incredible . We took the sunset ride and it surpassed all expectations. You can't beat a Sonoran Desert sunset. This ride was for my 8 and 13 year old grand-daughters. Makenna, the lady running the show and our guide was not only an excellent guide, but also the queen of hospitality. My grand-daughters had a blast with her. She was like their big sister out on the trail. All the while she was entertaining the girls and leading the ride, she kept an eye on me 4 horses back and told me when I needed to adjust my saddle or my wife needed to change her grip on the reigns. They have a lot of horses here. Once u get out of your car you can smell all the poop. It's all over the ground but they do seem to love and take care of their horses. Was looking for something different to do when daughter in town so we got online and saw a next day opening. Jumped on it , lol. Have not ridden a horse since teenager. I freakin loved it! Was just a slow walk thru mesa/ foothills type terrain bit temps were 75 so very enjoyable. My horse was a little spirited as well. Guide told me to not let him eat (Rocket , lol) so every time we stopped , Rocket would try and eat . I did not let him eat anything and he was giving me the side eye. As we approach stable area , we walk past some park info awnings. All horses but mine go around structure , lol Ride was an hour long which I was scoffing at at the beginning. 50 minutes in , my outer knees started to feel the ride. Would do an hour again before the 90 minute ride. Guide was very good and all handlers and employees very knowledgeable and friendly. Would definitely recommend and will definitely return. read more
