I asked to be added to the waitlist for 2 on October 12, and got off the waitlist on November 9, for a tour on December 28 so don't give up hope if it is originally fully booked! I did the spellbound explorer tour which included a walk through a cave as well as a boat ride through a cave for the glowworms. The tour guide was great and allowed pictures during the first back and forth on the boat ride and asked us to put away our phones during the second. This is because the first go-around allows for the eyes to adjust and see the glowworms better so the second go-around the glowworms are much brighter. The cave walk was also a nice add on for 20 NZD but if the tour with the cave walk is not available the regular boat ride is perfect on its own. I loved this tour as our tour guide took pictures for each group that wanted some with glowworms and also provided us with personal pictures of glowworms taken with a nicer camera with a longer shutter speed.

The ribbon or sheet formations were stunning. The white rock is so beautiful. The cave is fully accessible with no steps. The beginning walk down to the cave door reminds me of being in the sci film, The Silo. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the cave and the area. They encourage photos so we took a few. The caves themselves are really impressive - with the Ruakuri cave you get both the glowworms (including fairly up close) and the stalactite and stalagmite formations on an accessible walking tour. Yes, it is also accessible with a wheelchair and it's great that it was a priority for the owners to make it that way. Definitely book in advance so that you know you have a spot. Also, to clarify this is actually a separate cave to the Waitomo Glowworm Caves where you take a boat - so if you are torn on which one to do you can do both without a lot of overlap.

The enthusiastic owner Suzie takes you on a wonderful 90 minute tour of all the exact filming locations on the farm. While the rocky, hilly and forested farm isn't the most ideal for sheep farming, the landscapes and scenery are incredibly enchanting...its no wonder Peter Jackson chose to film here. Suzie takes you through scene by scene, and even helps you stage photos to duplicate scenes from the movie, even with some props! The tours are small, limited to 9 people maximum, but as luck would have it my wife and I were the only ones, so we got a private tour! $60 isn't cheap, but for LOTR fans its totally worth it.

This was the best stay and the best sleep that we had anywhere in New Zealand. The scenery is stunning and calming with a creek that runs through the grounds, the sounds of several birds, and trails to explore. The guest room we stayed in was immaculately clean and comfortable, attached the house but with our own private bathroom, private deck overlooking the grounds, and tea, coffee and cookies awaiting our arrival. This was our first night in New Zealand and the hospitality and generosity that we received made us feel so welcome to the country. We were invited to dinner on her deck with her friends and family and were brought a plentiful breakfast with the best homemade croissants I have ever had. Make sure you check out the outdoor secluded bath to really let your worries and stress go away. I recommend anyone to come and stay with Rowena and her dog Maggie at the Rangimarie!
