For sure, some of their material is, and I think the majority of their educational programming is on during the day, when I am not watching it. Some of the shows I have watched on here that are not quite educational are "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "The Amazing Race" Apparently this station works with some universities and colleges to provide educational materials that the students need for their courses. This is definitely a weird little television station. I don't tune in often but every once in a while it will surprise you.

It's one of the few channels that had it on as a regular show. On commercial breaks, they used to have a cheesy commentary about the show and about pop culture. In fact, one of my university profs was on Access talking about pop culture! During the day I think it's mostly educational stuff for kids - homework help and stuff like that. They also have some great movies from time to time. Like I said, it's kind of cheesy but I still kinda like it!

Because of that though, I kind of view them as an amateur station because they are less serious and less professional when compared to a station like Global or CTV. But that doesn't mean that I love them any less! Their programming is pretty sweet too. How I Met Your Mother and Cougar Town are a couple of the funniest shows on TV right now and CityTV's got 'em! 30 Rock is also pretty darn good and The Biggest Loser is, of course, awesome. Breakfast television is filmed right here in downtown Edmonton and they really focus on local flavour. They have segments all around Edmonton at schools, gyms, shops etc. CityTV also has pretty good programming as well. They have shows like The Biggest Loser, Parenthood and Cityline. I really like watching local television and this is local television at its best!

The team on the 6PM news hour is like the all-star news team and it starts with the fan favourite Gord and the beautiful Carol Ann. Just tune in once and you'll see why everyone loves them. But of course we can't forget about the supporting cast of Nicola, Su-Ling and Julie. I enjoy Nicola's humour and wits while delivering the weather, and the journalism from Su-Ling and Julie as they cover health and consumer issues. If there's one thing that could be improved, it's the Sports segment. It's too focused on the local teams here in Edmonton. Covering local teams here is fine but if none of the Edmonton teams are playing, there is barely any sports segment. In fact, I'm pretty sure when they 'Hawks won the Stanley Cup last season, they spent about 5 seconds on it. As a sports fan, it'd be nice if they could at least cover the main headlines of the day.

Now Global has a one up when it comes to comedy shows but CTV has LOST. In my opinion it is one of the best shows of all time. It also carries American Idol which is the most watched show of the decade, so you can see what I mean. I also believe it is going to be the broadcaster for the Olympics this year so it will probably be the most watched local station this year.

I love my country and all, but not al ot happens here in terms of interesting news. I'm more concerned with what goes on outside because I've spent most of my life outside Canada. I think they could have done a better job with the Winter Olympics coverage. Their commentary was juuuustttt a bit too biased for our country during certain events. But I didn't mind that one bit during the men's hockey final of course.

I came to this actual building for a tour of their music library as part of an Edmonton Public Library Learn Downtown event and was wowed about the purpose-built space. The music collection is lovely and there really is more space down here than I expected. This area isn't normally open to the public but it is essential for the DJs preparing their setlists. We also saw some really great old-fashioned media. I wish I could have stayed longer and seen more. I'm super happy to have been able to visit the music library and get an even greater appreciation for one of my all-time favourite radio stations.

They have a good vestibule area for people entering the building and for launch events this is filled with vendors. There was merch tables and drink options when we were there. No food but they had free snacks - hard pretzels and chocolate covered strawberries. Entrance Fee was $20 it's cash only. So don't spend your only money on a CD then head out to Jasper Ave to find a cash machine like me. Inside it's pretty and the twinkling fairy lights make the space really appealing. There is lots of room for high tables and audience seating, as well as standing area in front of the stage. A great space for about 80 people. Cool place to hang and watch live music.

A dying breed amongst radio stations? I hope not, but even CBC radio 2 has ads and plays the same pop tripe as every other station. CJSR, you truly rock!

Anyone can work at the radio station, you can even work on getting your own show! They have equipment and support, mentors and veterans who can help you learn anything you want about radio. I want to learn how to write ads for radio, record them and edit them. I want to learn how the gear is all setup, how to record a session when an artist comes in and how to be a DJ. All of this is available to me, all DJs are volunteers and pretty passionate about being there at all hours. They contribute in many ways, and are approachable and helpful. While I don't live in Sherwood Park I do work here so I like to know what's going on and what is…read morenew and exciting in the county. I will say for a small local paper the Sherwood Park news does and amazing job of doing just that. The articles are just the right size for taking the paper on the bus while still providing enough detail to make it feel like the subject matter was adequately reported on. I also love that the paper is chalk full of stories that pertain to just the area with limited mention of Edmonton and Edmonton related stories. With Sherwood Park sitting so close to Edmonton's borders I know many look at it as just another part of Edmonton when in reality it is it's own community with a unique personality all it's own. Also there is a lovely balance of harder subject matter and feel good stories. With things in Alberta sadly being the way they are currently it's easy to get caught up in doom and gloom happenings but you can also flip open the paper here and read wonderful things about the holiday fundraiser for the women's shelter and the province providing funding to Strathcona Transit to buy more busses. The Sherwood Park news is a great five star local paper to get informed about Strathcona County whether your a citizen or just visiting like myself.
