Well made a huge novice mistake and while reassembling my Ruger mark 3. I inserted the magazine in back-wards and did realize how much force I used. Well that jammed the magazine in place. This was on a Sat night around 10pm. I found Chaz's gunsmithing services here on yelp and since the reviews were good and he was really close to where I live and work I decided to give him a try. I called expecting an answering machine but Chaz answered the phone. I spoke with him about what happened and setup a time to drop off the gun the next day on Sunday. Met with Chaz and was impressed he was very knowledgeable and professional. I left not expecting a call for a few days. Well later that same day I got a call and he had already torn the gun down got the jammed magazine out. But since I jammed it in I also broke some internal parts which needed to be ordered and replaced. Chaz ordered up the parts and while we waited for those to arrive I decided to have him install new sights and a Houge grip. Probably took about 2 weeks to get the parts and install those along with the sights and grip. Because of the nature of the part that was broken internally Chaz took my gun to the range to test fire and make sure everything was working well! Chaz communicated to me on a regular basis by email and phone with updates on my gun and answered a lot of novice gun owner questions I had also. This guy might be a great gunsmith but I will never know. I called him to tell him that one of my screws got striped and I tried to remove it with a screw extractor, but the bit broke. Yeah I admit that I messed up by not contacting a gunsmith before making it worse. So, I called Chaz to see if he can remove the screw. He got a bit flustered that I was going to make him do more work because I trimmed down the broken bit. That actually made me laugh. Never did I ask for a discount nor did I ever make it seem like I could not afford his labor. He sounded like he was doing me a favor lol. This guy needs to work on his customer service. He's charging people. He's not doing anyone any favors lol. I contacted this guy because it was convenient for me since I lived in the same city. The Work Done: I recently inherited a Browning Twelvette that hadn't been shot in 20+ years and was showing some rust on the action/bolt. Chaz disassembled the gun, gave it a thorough inspection, and cleaned it top to bottom ensuring it was safe to operate again. The action was free of rust and cycled smooth as butter. While the gun was in overall good shape before, it was glowing after Chaz worked on it. The Experience: Chaz provided excellent customer service from the first moment of contact. I filled out a service request form on his website and he called me within 24 hours to confirm and set up a time to drop off the twelvette. Drop off was quick and easy with Chaz discussing how he would service the gun in detail. As he worked on the gun, he would text me pictures sharing his progress through completion. Gunsmiths in the bay area are few and far between. Chaz may do good work for some but I was not impressed with the quality of his work. On top of doing what in my opinion was a poor job on multiple products he is way overpriced...especially when you consider you may have to tinker with his work finish the job completely, and to fix items he did poorly, improperly or didn't do thoroughly. I don't think he's a bad guy at all. He just didn't do a good job on any of the projects I gave him and i was disappointed to have to pay a lot for crap work. YMMV. 1 star, but honestly - it should be zero, because that's exactly what my experience was. I was really inspired by all these 5 stars reviews and thought that I finally found a gunsmith not far away from my home. Well, unfortunately it didn't happen. Here's the story: one of my guns is a .22 Henry lever action rifle. About a year ago I installed a tang sight on it, but the hole I drilled in the tang wasn't perfect (my fault - I used a hand drill), so sight was shifted ~ 1mm to the right. I compensated it by adjusting both front and rear sights, but this imperfection on otherwise perfect rifle just bothered me. Finally, I decided to do it right, so I bought a brand new receiver cover from Henry and start looking for a gunsmith who could drill nice and straight hole in it. I called Chaz and asked him for an estimate to drill and tap a single hole in my Henry's tang. I said that I want to install a tang sight, I know the exact hole size and spacing, I have a receiver cover and blueprints in my hands. He told me that it is not as easy and it might need more than one hole. I said that it needs exactly one hole - it is a standard Marbles tang sight with mounting hardware made exactly for this rifle, no surprises expected. He kept arguing that drilling hole can make tang not durable enough. I explained that it was previously mounted the same way and was totally fine in terms of fit and durability and the problem is that the hole wasn't drilled perfectly aligned, so now I bought a brand new receiver cover and would like to ask him to drill the hole. After that for some reason he became pissed, told that since someone else tried to do this before - he don't want to mess with this thing either (???) and be liable for that (sic!), told some BS about how cool he is and how hard it was to become a skilled gunsmith and then just hang up the phone. That's pretty much it. Well, Chaz, I'm glad for your gunsmithing skills and understand that there are not too much gunsmiths in Bay Area, but I still don't think that it could be an excuse for treating you potential customer as sh#t. I had a stuck choke tube in a shotgun that I needed help extricating. I looked on Yelp for a gunsmith. I found CC Gunsmithing and read their reviews and was a little skeptical.(People complaining about customer service) However I called first thing in the morning & left a voicemail. I also placed calls into a couple of other shops. Chaz was the first call back that I got & said I could bring it in ASAP, so I did. Choke tube was really stuck & I wanted to use the gun the next day. I left the gun with him & went back to work. He was able to extricate it same day,(no easy task) I picked it up after work and was able to make my hunt. Through out the entire process he was easy to talk to, never rude, flustered or uptight as described by other yelpers. What can I say that hasn't already been said by the vast majority of other Yelpers. Not to be "THAT guy" but I have some very nice and unique guns that I take a large amount of pride in. For the most part, the triggers and polish jobs I do myself....but... I was in a bind one day... And needed a sight fitted on a Salient style S&W M&P 9mm... I went to a gun shop that I had frequented near my home. They told me they were capable and had the tools necessary.. I'm gonna keep a very long story very short.... They screwed it up...... Bad. Gun- Modified M&P9mm Sights- Dawson fiber optic adjustable. Damage- wasted sight... $100 just for rears and now half installed sight was immovable and stuck in slide Fix- searched yelp for a gunsmith close to my work (San Mateo). Thoroughly read all reviews.... Called Chaz.. Chaz was polite.... Listened to problem .... And proceeded to rectify the situation.... He took time, care, and precision to remove the stuck sight without ANY damage to the slide whatsoever. I bought another rear sight... Chaz FITTED the sight (like it should have been the first time by other place) and installed it perfectly. No marks, no damage..... Just a perfect fit and finish. Chaz did a fantastic job on my shotgun. I looked for gunsmiths nearby on Yelp after being told by Imbert and Smithers (who I originally purchased the gun from) that their gunsmith was backed up 5-6 weeks and would need another few weeks to get around to it. I did not see any point in waiting so long, so I looked and found a highly rated gunsmith business on Yelp instead: CC Gunsmithing. I wanted to make my Benelli M1 Super 90 pistol grip model easier to use for rapid engagements in near or total darkness, e.g. a typical home defense scenario. I also had not reassembled it after doing a poor job cleaning it, so I brought it to him dirty and disassembled. During that cleaning session, I failed to exercise due caution and allowed one two of the magazine tube pieces to shoot across the room with the magazine spring. I never found those pieces and ordered replacements which I needed him to install. I also ordered night sight inserts, which would allow me to keep my existing ghost ring sights and simply convert them for use at night. In an ironic twist, one of those "lost" pieces was actually still within the gun but it was too late as I had ordered the new parts anyway. He attempted to install the inserts but could not because the vendor did not provide what was ordered. He did some searching online and provided the option of installing something else instead which would hold spare shells AND offer a Picatinny rail, upon which I could mount a variety of optics designed for CQB such as those offered by EO Tech or Trijicon. He reminded me not to get a shell holder with too much weight because excess weight on the receiver can interfere with my Benelli's inertia driven action and result in failures to eject spent shells and load properly. I can now shop around for an optic and have it installed, worry free, once I can purchase one. I went with the idea and delivered the new rail/holder combo but within several hours the project had been completed! And this is after I delivered pieces of a gun, inserts that lacked key components, and receiving frank advice on what my options were given my goals. He was quite thorough in discussing each option and how much things would cost. I also opted to have a coat of chemical applied which would offer better protection from the elements, namely rust. The gun I picked up was clean as a whistle, had better protection from the elements, retains the stock sights which I love, and an optic rail/shell holder combo which will not interfere with the inertia driven action of my firearm. I can now shop around for an optic and have it installed, worry free, once I can purchase one. I am very much looking forward to training with my upgraded shotgun. He was also able to advise me on a few other projects that I have in mind for a medium caliber rifle. Thank you Chaz! read more

Called up Chaz on Fri for front and rear sight install on Springfield XD. Super friendly guy, chatted a bit about daily carry handguns, hunting, and my poor experiences with local "old timer gunsmiths". He works from home, skilled machinist and gunsmith on side, finished the job in less than 24 hrs = $100, what a great turn around time! He had to cut off my sights, no big deal, slight ding on the new Dawson Precision front fiber optic sight from pressing in, would have liked to have a file and fit job better than forced press fit, but overall really happy with the job. Needs to be minor adjusted at shooting range and then locktite in. I wasn't going to ask for bore sighting and locktite, because that is something I can do myself. There is no local gunsmith within an hour drive in the Bay Area that will give you such a quick turn around. read more

I was looking for any skilled gunsmiths in the Bay Area and Chaz's shop CC Gunsmithing popped up in the search a few time so I decided to see if he would be able to help me with a small problem I had on my 1911. I was disassembling my 1911 to put in some upgrades and do some much needed cleaning, but when it came to taking off the grip screw bushings from the frame in the magazine well there had been one that refused to come out and to make the problem worse I had STRIPPED the screw head on the bushing :( bad move on my part. So with the half disassembled frame that had a lodged and stripped bushing I called Chaz to schedule an appointment. Got a prompt response within a few minutes of calling **As a word of advice it is best to call during business hours or a little after the opening time around 10-11am just to give a working engineer time to get the shop going that may be taking care of multiple orders that day** The fix for my 1911 was done in a matter of minutes for a trained professional, nice application of some heat and a little finesse, then out came the stripped grip screw bushing and my frame is in perfect condition! While his shop is unassuming, the weapons that come out of it are insanely impressive. Chaz took in my Colt 1911, which was chewing up brass after I changed out the slide, and gave me back a tack driver that throws brass a dozen feet away from me in the correct direction. I came back to Chaz because he did such a great job adjusting the trigger action on my S&W 638-3. This time I brought him my Walther P-22 because this trigger felt like a poorly made toy. The trigger was awful. It was also jamming like crazy. I was getting about 15-20% jam rate. I hated this gun. Chaz cleaned it and did a trigger job on it. He took it out to the range with CCI mini mags that I provided and put 200 rounds through it. He got one or two jams!! I just picked the gun up today and the trigger is night & day better. I'm looking forward to bringing it to the range for some plinking fun. I also brought him my "show-piece" gun, a 6" stainless S&W 686 (357 mag.) He lowered the trigger pull in both SA & DA. He also hand finished the Internals to smooth it out. This trigger is like butter now. It really is a thing of beauty. I've never shot a colt Python, but I imagine this is what it feels like. Maybe he should have had his coffee before he called me back. I wanted to cut down and thread my barrel for a compensator. He wouldn't gave me a price over the phone. I finally was able to get that he charged $100 for the cut, $100 for the crown, and $150 to thread and install the compensator. When I say so it will will be $350 he says I don't know I need to measure. So he wants the barrel diameter, easy I have a micrometer. He says no I don't trust your measurement. It's a bull barrel you have to turn down...even if I am off by half an inch (not possible) it wouldn't make that much a difference. He was unprofessional throughout the whole conversation. He might do great work (I'll never know) but he needs to work on how to be polite to his customers. read more

Update 2/4/18: Chaz completed my 4th rifle project for me. He threaded the barrel on my Savage Model 10 bolt-action rifle and installed a muzzle brake from JP Enterprises. Asked him to take the rifle to the range to test the overall efficiency after the brake installation. Afterwards he shared his range results with me and it was comforting to know that a professional gunsmith has tested my rifle and it functioned flawlessly, accurately with the scope zeroed at 100 yards. I didn't know about Chaz until I search for a good gunsmith in Yelp and then saw his reviews and they were really good reviews well I don't want to sound unfair but I just got a Truglo TFO tritium night sights installed on my handgun, well to start the front and the left rear fiber optics won't glow in the dark they got damaged only the right rear works, then he put a couple of dings in the base left side of the front sight and a round mark in the left side of the rear sight, I mean that's something that you really can see right away and I do care about it. VERY DISAPPOINTED now I have to send this sights back to the manufacture to get them fixed. Very bad experience in my first visit and to be honest I didn't noticed of what happened to the sights because the room where I got my gun delivered was kind of dimmed. read more

Originally he did not have the bluing compound to make the bullet button he fabricated look good. I recently had Chaz Cheshire repair my Colt 1911 Officer's Special and an M1 Tanker. I had previously had an armorer attempt to repair the 1911 without success. Chaz found the problem and fixed it.
