My husband and I recently sold our 1926 house in Berkeley and prior to selling it had serious concerns that because of its horribly outdated kitchen, and having only one bathroom, that the house would potentially sit on the market forever. I purchased a 1925 home in San Francisco that had been updated, but was in need of a kitchen refresh, redesigned bathroom, and new paint, lighting, and window treatments throughout. This is the 5th house I'd owned, and I felt like I was in a bit of a color rut, repeating the same color schemes in each home. I also have a fear of window treatments -- I'm terrified of choosing something that will look fussy and outdated in short order. So I decided I wanted the help of an interior designer. But I didn't just want help choosing paint, tile, and window coverings, I wanted someone who could find the right contractor and other trades people for the project, and then most importantly, manage them! Cecile was able to do all that for me, and how! She introduced me to the best and most reliable contractor I've ever worked with who took on all the renovations, plus some neglected maintenance issues I discovered. She also found a wood worker to repair and restore my beautiful stairway newel posts and railings that were covered under many layers of paint, as well as a professional art installer to hang pictures properly on my plaster walls. Lastly, she worked with the Container Store to create a custom closet organization system for me that was functional and very affordable. No matter what I threw at her, Cecile managed every detail of every project with each of the trades people. I also loved that Cecile was flexible and collaborative. If I loved the direction she was headed but wasn't in love with the exact shade of paint or exact furnishing she recommended, she'd take the feedback and come back with an alternate that was spot on. Likewise, if I loved a furnishing but found something similar that was cheaper, she embraced that. All without attitude! The result is that I now have a gorgeous home, that's totally me but with a design that is unique to this house. And one that shows off all the best features of the home. Every person that comes here says that it's a show place. I truly could not have done this without Cecile.
