The prices are beyond fair, so much so that I purchased items here that would have cost more online. I strongly recommend visiting this business if you are in the area. :). You're looking at about $40 for a new album, which is pretty much standard no matter where you go, but there's some great deals on used ones as well. It is a really open environment, and there's space to look around and flip through all of the different albums in comfort. This, of course, is one of the most important parts of any record store experience. The people in the store seem incredibly kind and delightful, and it is definitely worth stopping by. The only reason you may not have seen it already is because it is slightly farther up main Street than the traffic light most people use as the turnback point. Make sure you keep going until you're across from the gas station so you can experience this place for yourself!

Even shopping is supremely pleasant here, and Red Canoe Gallery ranks as one of my favorite stops when it comes to Muskoka shopping. For me, RCG is one of the most accessible and relatable galleries I've found. A lot of the art featured in the shop appeals to my personal aesthetic: stylized landscapes, folk-art carvings, turned wood bowls, simple jewelry. Much of it is unmistakably Canadian in subject, too, from a wonderful oil painting of a Mountie riding a flying loon, to a monochrome block print of a pair of Muskoka chairs. Best of all, most prices on the pieces strike me as really reasonable. Every time I'm in Port Carling, Red Canoe is always a welcome diversion.

I appreciate that the products here are so thoughtfully selected as well. Cottage decor can teeter on kitschy, but the selection at CC -- technicolor enameled outdoor dining sets, lake-themed hooked rugs, craftsman birdhouses -- is tasteful as well as fun. Popsicle makers and painted martini glasses give ideas. Food from local vendors means you don't have to wait for next week's farmers market to pick up those jams or condiments. And a bounty of healthful dining options from veggie paninis to fresh soups make a quick, delicious lunch. CC definitely makes a great addition to our little hamlet.
